Post by: WillieWatanabe on February 04, 2011, 01:13:58 PM
Will they live up to the hype this year??

I'm thinking no.

My favorite was the truck (I think Chevy) who was imitating Lassie.

The Bridgestone commercial with the beaver was a close second.

I don't know if this qualifies as a real Super Bowl commercial, but how was I not aware of Cowboys and Aliens?

Dear God.  That's pretty much the greatest idea I've ever seen.

I liked the Bridgestone ones...

I've done the "reply to all" thing. Very embarrassing when that happens.

I usually just play it off like, "Oh, haha. That part where I referred to you as a jagoff? You remember what that's from, right?" But never have I considered getting in my car, speeding down the road and then destroying every lap top and cell phone that belongs to the (unintended) recipients of my e-mail.

Will have to try that.

much easier to just send the same people a virus with an important sounding heading.  something like "don't open that last email from me, run this scan instead"

problem solved.

But this is what happens to a great American city when you let unions run everything and have a corrupt mayor. Sort of dug their own hole

Why don't you enlighten us on what really happened.  Because this is a pretty good synopsis from what I can gather.

I don't have "the answer" because there isn't one.  I gave my take in the thread on the politics board. It is endlessly annoying to have people that know nothing about Detroit throw a meaningless line or two in judgement and then refuse to engage with any other information or perspective. Detroit has a tremendous set of problems, they are multi-layered, they each have unique contexts (the school district's problems are not the same as the economic, is not the same as the population decline, is not the same as the real estate market) but they ARE interrelated. I am really bothered that many, many people have no understanding of any one of the problems, yet feels comfortable condemning a city (really a region) without 1) bothering to understand that they don't understand 2) bothering to understand enough to follow a conversation and take an opinion

I haven't seen a Super Bowl commercial I've really liked since the running of the squirrels. Didn't really like the Doritos commercial either, but maybe my expectations are too high.

It's just escalation of the norm.  When the frogs saying Bud-Weis-Er came out everyone thought it was the greatest thing since canned beer, but if that commercial came out last night we would have all thought it sucked and blew.

This sounds like the same argument for the overwhelming dislike for the Star Wars prequels. Our expectation were too high. No they weren't - those movies sucked.

About 98.3% of the ads last night sucked. Puppymonkeybaby wasn't good - it sucked. Although maybe it didn't actually suck because it achieved it's desired outcome - people talking about it - but from an entertainment standpoint it sucked.

What would you guys do to make a great and hilarious Super Bowl Commercial?  Mine would involve dogs that have human arms.  Like the dogs are sitting at the table with people clothes on and people are hiding under them so it looks like the dogs have people hands and arms.  Not sure what I would be selling.  Maybe pizza, or dog food.

I wonder if there is more domestic abuse or drunk driving associated with the Super Bowl? Probably the latter, right? Instead of just to "raising awareness" about something, would be a neat idea if NFL announced a 12 hour cab fair promo or something like that.
