Title: Player/Team improvement...

Sort of a "State of K-State" _FANalysis comparing individual players from last season to this and how the newcomers fit into that mix.

great work _fan.  Stuff like this helps me to at least straddle the line of Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)/not Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) in terms of basketball IQ.

Pretty good write-up. I agree with all of it except hoping that we can start getting some 4+ star talent in here. I have zero hope of that happening.

I'm being hopeful for Smart/Ellis/Cauley (landing one). If its going to happen it will be that class.

IMO, the only one of those players that would make an instant impact is Ellis.  From everything I've read about Smart and Cauley, it would appear that their offensive games are still ultimately developing and/or need polish.

I guess that's true of any freshman, but it doesn't sound like anyone other than Ellis would be an immediate significant contributor.

Also, next year, I think you have to take Nino being a freshman (again) into consideration as having four star talent being infused into the program.

On a side note, to expand on the results of your analysis, I'd say that it could be sold to certain players that the lack of improvement, especially at the power forward position, would enable a player like Perry Ellis to step in and start immediately at Kansas State.

Also, if a scholarship could be opened (and it can), you could also argue for a player like Marcus Smart that he could start right away at the shooting guard position.

Just sayin'.  I'm not saying we'd get either of them, but it could be argued.

Really need an immediate impact guy.

Really need an immediate impact guy.

I want more bigs.  I look a couple of years down the road, and it's downright scary unless these guys get dramatically better.

I think it is all about another guard.  Even if Angel turns into what Art says he will, that leaves us with one decent guard in about 2 years from now.   Isn't that pretty much exactly where we are now?

I'm going to reserve judgment on Spradling and Southwell until I see how much improvement they make from this year to the next.

We know what we're getting from our bigs that are on the roster, and the two coming in are either undersized (Gipson) or in dire need of weight training (Diaz).  To me, that is a much more significant question mark.

True, but it is what it is. We've got those guys and you've got to hope Frank and staff made the right assessment by signing them.  I do like that next year's will be a 3 player class, which makes it much easier to balance out your roster.

The problem is that our only scholarship JR now is Samuels. So even if/when we do have attrition after this season, it may be worthwhile to sit with the "open scholarship" situation unless the staff finds some sure impact player, which I don't see happening for the current class. The signing of Myles for depth was nice I guess, but now we sit with 6 scholarships in the SO class. I'm sure there was some partial thought that maybe Judge would develop and not be here all 4 years, but that looks like wishful thinking now. It will be interesting to see what happens with that group, b/c that does make it a tough situation signing for next year with currently one open scholarship. Then you throw in 95 and possibly Omari and I'm not sure what the ultimate decision will be, but there are certainly plenty of options.

(:gocho:)

 :ck:  :eye:

I thought about doing different shades of the highlight color to assign more/less significant improvements but I was too lazy.

But you can see how Kelly has messed this team up with his minutes percentage cut in half so far this year.

What I see is confirmation that I should give up on this season.  :frown:

It annoys me that FAN always blames CK for the season.  It's Frank and the NCAA/ex-girlfriend's fault.

Besides, if it was CK's fault, we would have returned immediately to winning handily upon his return. :ck:

True. CK's past shows that he was pretty much a victim of circumstance and a coach treating him unfairly. I hope someday CK can run into some good luck.

run russell.  give his ship to peterson to help 95 support his puppy, have that 'ship avail in 2012 for two in that class, reducing the '10 class to five.

What has become of freddy's scholarship? Is 95 taking it for the second semester or do we just lose it for this year?

He was fine for 2 years in Manhattan.  :ck:

I like sys' 95/Russell scholarship plan.

Yeah, I wasn't surprised. I'm also not surprised by the screw ups.

But I like CK and hope he finishes well, I just think his off the court junk impacted the team. Pullen's did too, but not quite as much.

I'm good with this plan.  Love how it frees up 2012 for a big and a guard.

I still think that in order for a lot of the blame of this season to be put on CK's absence, we would have had to beat Florida and A&M.

Do you think we beat any of UNLV/Colorado/ Okie State with him? The only thing I put on CK is that we might have beat UNLV but I doubt that game will be the make or break for the tourney.

With CK and Jake definitely beat UNLV.  Six more games playing together and another inside scorer, win at OSU.  Inside presence, confidence from road win, and inside scoring, beat CU at home.  Still lose close game at MU.  Now 9 more games playing together, with 2 on the road, lack of pressure from must win of being 1-3, probably get the win at A&M.

So..... CK & Jake, the two senior leaders screwing up have a huge impact on where the team is at right now.
