Aren't Garrett and Lamur gone now?  Also, Burns will start opposite Zimmerman @ safety.

No, Lamur and Garrett are only juniors. We will see about Tanner. He lead SJSU in tackles, but he isn't at that impressive from what i have seen. Hopefully he plays well enough to start. That could be a potential potent defense with some of those names

Kinda weird how Lamur and Garrett both only played one season at their jucos.  Also, Garrett will be 24 this year.

Every time I read about our "defense" I die a little. Which guy do you think gets big 12 honorable mention and which one gets newcomer of the year?

Garrett graduated and is starting his masters degree.  I think he had some sort of extended clock ruling (no idea if med red or something else)

Dude graduated high school in 07, so it looks like he redshirted one year @ Ft. Scott.  Maybe the SID bio is just a typo?

The best we can absolute hope for is not horrible.

The word 'potent' shouldn't be used with this defense whatsoever due to both coaching and talent deficiencies.

I disagree. Our secoundary was solid last year. We lacked talent in the front 7. Our LBs were decent, but you cannot have a good linebacking corps without a decent DL. I don't think cosh is a good DC and I don't agree with his gameplan, but if we pulled in a guy like mcreynolds on the interior to occupy a couple blockers, and the speed of davis and williams on the outside, our LBs have room to run free and make tackles. Throw in a playmaker at LB like Arthur and we could be a good defense.
The only other question is CB.

Thomas(?) and Chapman or Malone could be decent at CB next year.  And I think our LBs could be pretty solid as well with Walker, Childs, Brown, Sluaghter, etc.  We really need 2 massive, hole clogging DTs or we're not going to be anything more than a mediocre defense though.

And no, I don't think we're going to be a really good defense regardless, but I would be very happy with one ranked in the 50s or so, especially considering all the potent offenses we will face in the conference.

Why? Is he going to do the scout for the offense? Or is he going to play qb?

Jesus, I meant "can arthur read offenses" I thought I read somewhere that sean spence said he had a hard time with that.

No way a true freshman DT will regularly "occupy" even ONE blocker.

Tons of freshmen DTs can occupy blockers, especially ones as highly touted as him.  Just because we haven't had many do it doesn't mean it doesn't happen around the country.  And saying a frosh can't occupy even one blocker is about as Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) as it gets.  You really think that no freshman, ever, was able to handle one single blocker?   I feel like this site may be more your speed:   www.amiretardedorjustreallystupid.com.  good luck!

Speaking of "retardedness", with your lack of reading comprehension, you left out the "regularly" occupy a blocker.  No doubt a freshman can occupy a blocker on occasion, but to rely on one to play full time without getting "regularly gashed" is the height of unreality.
As for there being "tons" of such players, I invite you to go to Rivals defense rankings.  Take the top fifty defenses, then check out the depth charts.....I defy you to find a single true freshman starter in this group.  If there truly are "tons" of them it shouldn't take too long.

Hate to bust everyone's bubble, but im sure little Tate Snyder is probably going to catch the eye of grand pappy and will get a starting nod over others. Im sure by grand pappy's standards that he is the next best thing to a werther original

I'm not going to check the entire top 50 but I did check Rival's freshmen all american team:  The first team DTs were from Kent St. (#13 in total defense) and Illinois (#37).  The 2nd teamers were from Arizona (#36) and Wake (#102).  The 4 DEs were from ASU (#58) A&M (#50) Mizzou (#41) and Va Tech (#39).   Wake is the only team that wasn't ranked at least 50 spots ahead of KState.  Also, of those 8 DLs, there was one 4*, three 3*s, and four 2*s.

So basically, acting like McReynolds has zero chance of being a very solid DT for us as a freshman is, well, absolutely rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).
