They are really, really bad for you. Like, the worst thing for you outside of poison. It's hard to imagine how many people used to eat. I prolly pounded tons of TFA growing up. Surprised I'm not dead.

Our lipase is ineffective at metabolizing trans fats when compared to its cis conformation, so increased LDL and effectively decreased HDL.
Obviously, this leads to the vicious cycle of LDL deposition on blood vessel, white blood cell attack and subsequent inflammation, then more LDL deposition.
Then before you know it, your "vessy's" are dead...

Not bad. Thx dr. Dlew. I always thought lipase broke down tricy's only and fa's were oxidized in mitochondria to acteyl coa via other enzymes...oh well.
