How many stairs does your house have? I've lived in a few different houses, and all of mine have had 13 stairs. This has fascinated me for quite some time now. The first thing I do when I enter a friend or relatives house is count the stairs, and it's almost always 13. Sometimes it's 14. But that's generally only for split level houses.
I was once in a house that had 23 stairs! :horrorsurprise:

I'll count mine when I go home for lunch. Do you also count the steps outside/in the garage, or do you just count the steps to the basement/upstairs?

Just use the main staircase, preferably one that goes upstairs.
Then again, my downstairs staircase also has 13 despite its awkward shape.

one down into the master bedroom, one down into the utility room.
unless arriving at your destination counts as a step, in which case 4.

I used to be superstitious and would always count stairs when I was going up/down them. If there were 13 stairs I would skip the last one. I did this for so long that even now, though I'm not superstitious anymore, I still skip the last one if there are 13.

I think that's more of a mental disorder than superstition.

Ok, my guess is to get from the basement to my bedroom in my parents house is ~ 48 steps but that is a guess.
Basement to 1st floor ~ 11
1st floor to 2nd floor ~ 23
2nd floor to 3rd floor ~ 14

Do your parents by chance live in the "Full House" house?

This is not going well. :embarrassed:

Not really sure why you guys are surprised by this. Steps are usually always the same distance from each other to prevent people from tripping when they go up them, and basement ceilings come in pretty standard heights.

Look like I found the answers to my question. :D

Interesting. I thought it was a complete coincidence.

j-rake is just fascinating.

The avg stair is 7" tall and 11" deep.
Climbing 13 avg stairs, you climb 91" or 7'-7".
Given that everyone has 13 stairs, how tall are your ceilings on your lower floor? Avg floor joists are 10" deep. So, 7'-7" minus 10" is 6'-9". I would get my head cut off by your ceiling fans.
My house has 8' ceilings, but still only 13 stairs. :ck:

omg me two!
15 to second floor, 15 to basement!

Do you trip over your stairs all the time?

What does that mean? Our main floor has very high ceilings.

If you have watched Full House, this is what I was referring to:
Basement to 1st floor ~ 11 (Joey Gladstone's room to main floor)
1st floor to 2nd floor ~ 23 (main floor to upstairs)
2nd floor to 3rd floor ~ 14 (upstairs to Uncle Jessie and Aunt Becky's apartment)
If you haven't seen Full House, that's a good thing. Terrible show in retrospect.

i have to admit that i don't really care about this. maybe you should go tell all your friends down at the grapeseed or blacks bar and kitchen about it though. i bet it'd be quite the talk.

My last house had 18 stairs from main floor to 2nd floor. House was built in 1907 or something. The stairs were short in distance and height...thus the need for extra stairs. And the 1st floor ceilings were 9.5 ft tall. Current house....0 stairs.

Old timey midgets who don't mind falling down stairs build stairs like that.
I am all about the 0 stair model. This is what my next one will be.

Did you even read anything but the back cover of "the boy who only hit homers?" I bet you didn't. Too bad. It's the current book in our grapeseed reading club (so I probably won't be able to work you into the conversation )
