Jacked up as cac already :drink: :emawkid: :excited:
-
Really need Curt and Jamar to stand up for this one
-
expect to lay an egg boys.
-
I hate Missouri more than any other Big 12 north team, please beat them for me.
-
Mizzou is really good. Marcus Denmon has been playing extremely well..
But so has Rodney McGruder
-
Should be an interesting game as far as match ups go. It's 2 teams who were supposed to have great depth and play very tough defense but neither team has either of those. I think I'll give the edge to the home team with their faster paced offense.
-
do wally and nick play today? would really love to have those 10 extra fouls.

Wally following Gruds lead with a 16 and 15 game himself would be
-
absolutely terrified. would love to not watch, but that's impossible.
-
W/O Asprilla I don't see anyway we win in Colombia.
-
I'll settle for the JYCiest 40 minutes in basketball.

Free throw rate will be a huge factor today. We will get to the line a lot. I hope we don't let them do the same thing, which doesn't look to be a problem. The refs were a lot more relaxed on Saturday than they have been, but we still looked like we were playing smarter. Leading 27-9 at the 10 minute mark may have something to do with that, though, so it may be a very temporary thing. Regardless, Missouri is not great at getting to the free throw line.
They are not a great rebounding team, but definitely not as bad as Texas Tech, so don't look for a 41-18 romp on the glass again. At 6'9" Safford gets 4.2 reb/game., and at 6'8" Bowers and Ratliffe combine for 13.4 reb/game. However, Bowers strength is offensive rebounds. Outside of that, the team is pretty insignificant. We open as the 8th best rebounding team, and they open as 80th.
The thing that scares me is that Missouri is great at causing turnovers. We cause enough of our own without our opponent doing anything. This is what makes me nervous for today. Obviously we can't get to the FTA is a mute point if we can't keep our possessions alive.
With the number of possessions per game by both teams, and the fact that both teams like to play man-to-man, the bench players will be a huge factor. I think this is to our advantage because our starters are more conditioned than their starters, so they'll get more minutes. The only good thing about out bench at this point is 95.
I don't like our chances today because of the turnover thing. I'd say 77-70 Mizzou.
-
Similar to CU. Great jumpshooters. Hectic defense. If we can get in half court offense Kelly could be a huge help. We are going to turn it over, just don't let more than 3 or 4 lead to layups. Hit 40% or better from 3, 40% or better OR%, and at least stay even in FT rate (I anticipate a lot of fouls/FTs for both teams).
Tigers 83
Cats 78
Sorry.

If there's one thing that's certain, it's that MU goes to the line waaaaay more at home than on the road in conf games. The reason for that: "Big XII Refs Suck . . . Big XII Refs Suck. . . Big XII Refs Suck"
lol
If they shoot as many FT's as we do, we're totally f*cked. We need to outboard them and stay out of foul trouble. I have absolutely no hope for staying out of foul trouble.

Good point. Missouri average FT rate at home this year: 35.7%. Missouri average FT rate on road/neutral: 29.8%.
FT rates last year:
Columbia - Cats 60.0%, MU 93.5%
OOD - Cats 60.7%, MU 20.6%.
Cats FT rate remained the same, MU was 73% better in Columbia.

We'll probably get Mizzou's "A" game today.

I'm at work today cause my boss obviously is :opcat: but this could be a good thing. If we get embarassed I can just focus on work, but if somehow we win I'll be pretty  that I missed it

while I'm glad my hunch has been verified, I have no idea what FT Rate is.

FT rate = FT attempts/FG attempts
In Manhattan last year MU shot 13 FTs compared to 43 attempts in Columbia. Cats shot 30 in Columbia and 34 in the OOD.

Whenever I have to work during games I DVR that crap, put up a sign on the door to my office that I will kill you if even a tidbit about the game leaks out, turn off my phone, then make a mad dash for the door at 5. I haven't had to kill anyone yet - don't know what that says about me.

Is there any rational explanation for MU's FT rate being so much higher at home than on the road? I would assume part of it is that they usually win at home, therefore shoot more end of game FTs. Perhaps the reason they're winning is because they get to the line more often during those games. This is all very fishy.

I think the best obvious explanation is that _FAN's data is one game's worth

I think you mean two game's worth
It's higher at home for the season as well. Just not that much higher.

Yes, one game each team's home court. Every team in America's is higher at home. I doubt Mizzou's is a statistical anomaly compared to other major program's home court advantage.
-
I don't know why but I think we win this one. All logic says no, but my heart and mind are saying we have our best game shooting and we shut down their guards. We only have 13 turn overs. And dominate the offensive boards.
-
I don't want to play this game today :frown:

steve dave (HBBIQ poster) is correct. But last year's numbers were pretty ridiculous.
Most good (and agressive) teams are going to get more calls at home. I do think it could be a bit more pronounced in this match-up though b/c we tend to foul a lot, and the way MU plays could lead to more fouling.
-
I think it's bullshit when teams that play small get lots of fouls because their guards drive into the lane, out of control, and bump into big guys when shooting/passing (aka the bailout call). I expect lots of fouls to be called with mu guards trying to make circus layup shots when our bigs jump straight up in the air to block/alter their shots. I expect to get zero of these calls on our end. I will cuss at the TV to express my displeasure.
I expect Kelly and JamSam to get two quick fouls each in the 1st half on calls like these and then sit out the last 10 minutes of the 1st half. At this time our offense will go into a complete funk and MU will go on a large run (meanwhile Wally and JHR will pick up two quick fouls each). We will come back in the second half but fall short because the FT rate for MU will pick up dramatically in the last 8 minutes of the game (based on similar type foul calls) in the referees attempt to appease the crowd and a squishy wrinkled face Mike Anderson. Frank will go ballistic and get lots of camera time.
I will then come on here and blame the entire game on the officiating just so the Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) posters on this board can call me a tard. In reality we will lose the game because we have a sh*t ton of TO's and actually do foul the opponent at an alarming rate.

I think this is an accurate prediction of the game. This leads me to the question -- "do i -- cough cough - go home from work early today so i can watch" or do i stay at work because I'll just get all pissed off at the game and waste time off??

I find that lashing out at my television is an excellent way to vent. Very good method of relaxation. Usually in a pretty good mood after a game no matter what happens. Afterall, it is a game.

Meh. Sometimes this is true, but just as much the more aggressive team gets the benefit of the doubt. Then teams get soft and quit moving to get open and moving their feet on defense. There are exceptions, but usually what you predicted happens against teams like MU because too many players fold under pressure, especially on the road. This may very well happen to the Cats today.

Pretty amazing we have no guards that can dribble and not turn it over. Spradling is a fracking disaster with the ball. Southwell looks like he is dribbling it from 10 feet in the air. I never thought we wouldn't miss Denny (not just his smile), but I had no idea how much.
