It seems likes these rankings get weirder by the week, not more stable.  Louisville and Clemson are pretty much wtfs, given how they're playing lately, and I have a hard time justifying Maryland or Missouri that high.  I think Pomeroy must be a Wal-Mart heir or something.

It simply comes down to the numbers.  This is not a poll based on accomplishments (no team "deserves" any ranking in this index), its based on potential.  Missouri's high ranking is an indicator that they are team that is a threat to beat anyone, same with Clemson and Louisville.  While they might not be living up to their potential, they have numbers that say they SHOULD be a better team than their record indicates and have the potential to be much better by the time the tournament comes around.

Ah, so what you're saying is I should be nervous should K-State draw any of these teams in their bracket, even though some of them are looking like scrub NIT teams.  I could go along with that (except for Clemson -- they will tank.  They always do.).

BYU's only decent wins are against UTEP and Arizona.  Also, how do you leave Gonzaga out of the top 25?

pretty much you can think of these as the 25 most "dangerous" teams (but in all reality it gets pretty fuzzy after 20)

to be fair Clemson is tied for 24th with about five teams (including FSU fyi), they just happened to win more tiebreakers.

I, personally, don't leave anyone out.  I have no control over the index, just the algorithm.  Gonzaga is around 40th in my index.  I guess if my index means anything (which it may not) it means +40 teams would beat Gonzaga if they played at a neutral site tonight.

Their only losses are on a neutral court vs. Seton Hall, @Syracuse, and @Kansas.  They're ranked #22 in the USA Today/ESPN poll.

Cornell:  6th in three point percentage, 7th in assists per game, 15th in assist/turnover ratio, 17th in scoring margin, 34th in field goal percentage

Cornell's an experienced team that shoots the ball well (especially from deep), and they limit their mistakes.  I'm not saying Cornell is going to the Final Four, but they are good enough to beat just about anybody on any given night.  Definitely deserving of a top 25 ranking.

I was just amused by all the load blowing that took place after beating a team from the Mountain West conference.

i know.  we should have taken in stride like when KU beat A-10 powerhouse Temple.
