so MM is the concern finding activities to do that don't involve drinking or the awkwardness of being in social situations and feeling like you have to explain to people why you aren't drinking?

if the latter, you can always say you're trying a new years resolution to cut back on your drinking and wanted to really go for it in january, or, you could say that you and mrs MM are trying to get pregnit and you are also cutting out drinking to be supportive of her

yeah i don't think there will be any awkwardness of not drinking in social situations, more just things to do on the weekends particularly so i don't get bored and want to just go grab drinks.

MM, find something new to try and try it.  A bunch of middle-aged folks are embarrassed to try something new.  Just don't be embarrassed.  Try something new.  Something that is available without large investment or uncommon conditions that, if you like it, you can continue it on your own without huge expense, change, or other issues that may act as a hurdle.

I did it last February, i.e. the shortest month. Found having an ice cold Spindrift helped scratch an itch. Carbonation is king.

I'm trying to think of what wouldn't be a little bit better with some backpack beers?

starting to think a large portion of people haven't tried exercising with backpack beers and it's a shame.

yeah i guess going to a brewery and drinking an NA beer doesn't really appeal to me.  i guess what i was getting at, what are some diff things i can be doing with my time other than even going to a brewery at all?  mrs meow is also doing dry jan, and i would like to point out we rarely ever drink during the week unless an after work outing or we go out to dinner and have a glass of wine or a beer, but the weekends there is generally always some drinks at home/dinner/meet friends out/etc.
just substitute illicit drugs for booze and keep the party moving bro

sometimes the easiest answer is right there under your nose

I’m still dry january’ing by accident and based on my athletic calendar I may not get the option to fix that. Although I’m going to the Globetrotters Friday and they may serve suds there.

Dry January > Sober October?

I had two glasses of NYE champagne with my dinner tonight!
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Probably have the best success with Dry Jan if you do different activities versus trying to do the same activities as usual but sober.

Think of something off the wall (for you) that you have never done (or don’t do anymore/recently) and go do it sober. Take a book to a coffee shop, go to a museum, listen to Tibetan singing bowls in the dark (or with candles), hike a trail you have been curious about, ride a bike to go eat someplace, go to an arboretum, sit in a steam bath and/or sauna, read a book in a genre you have always been curious about, etc.

Pete is definitely better at this than me. I recommend the Steamboat Arabia if you haven't been in a while! Isn't there like a museum of miniatures in Brookside or something?

I think my biggest hurdle to actually doing a dry any month if I wanted to do one is that me and lil sd have an after weekend sporting event tradition of going to a sports bar with the family for nachos, shirley temples, and beers. I don't know if I could resist that crispy boy temptation.

I'm not suggesting you should do dry January but I'm pretty confident you could enjoy the company of your family dinner at a sports bar without booze a few times a month. Or like Pete suggested, do something else! Change it up!
