Winters is the first one I ever heard use it IRL. I started using it on twitter and I've seen a lot of people do so too. It started to take off the last year.

The first time I saw it being used was after twitter user @johny_epleseed woke up drunk and tweeted at Ron Prince's Goatee "hey Scottie. Cats, man" with a link to this video.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
