If you think of confirmation hearings as a job interview, it is very strange to me that people act so interested in a candidate having a spotless life record vs. actually showing they're good at the job they're interviewing for. I mean, I think you have a much better argument that Kav's behavior at his confirmation hearing was disqualifying.
Call me a softy (or a pragmatist), but I'm probably never going to argue that any behavior of someone when they were a minor (or just barely an adult)--without more--should disqualify them for a position 35+ years down the road. I've met murders that are totally decent people. I might not let them babysit my kids, but I'd definitely recommend them for a job if they had the credentials.
