Title: 2017/2018 College Basketball Other Games Thread
Post by: SdK on November 11, 2017, 10:50:26 AM
I'm super excited about the UK/KU game coming up on the 14th. I'm hoping my cats can end the 2 year losing streak. In the interests of comradery, I felt an all inclusive thread rather than a UK thread would be wise.

Feel free to talk about anything pertaining to college hoop basket contests itt. Go Big Blue!

You shouldn't be looking past Vermont. That's going to be a very tough game for the young Kentucky fellows.

That first game was a bit of a scare for sure. I'll cross my fingers that the cats can pull it off.

When UK dropped into the 2-3, their was no answer except UK breakaway dunks.

Haha I didn't get a chance to watch it. I'll assume UK is going to win the national title until they are eliminated from the tourney.

I am looking forward to college basketball this week. Plan to watch games tonight, even the KSU game if I can find it. I haven't spent any time looking where it is on tv yet.  Now that the season has really started, I figure I'm good on cold evenings to watch basketball nearly every night of the week when I don't have other things going on.

This is from the release when the K-State MBB TV schedule was announced in September:

Quote
FOX Sports Kansas City will air the games to the entire state of Kansas as well as the Kansas City metro area, while fans can also view the broadcasts on K-StateHD.TV everywhere. In addition, all 10 games will be available to stream live outside the state of Kansas on ESPN3 across WatchESPN platforms.

Well 'clams, I know it's embarrassing to be called out as a professional language artist, but he never said Cal was clean. He simply said he was as clean as ever--a relative term that conveys no content without its corresponding referent.

Misery Tigers have to be devastated and very concerned  about this team.  The beat Emporia State by just a few points and lost to Utah.  Porter likely will never play for Mizzou.  But he did sell a lot of tickets and got his dad a good job.  He did convince several good players to sign with Missouri.  Golly darn hope we don't lose the St. Louis Meatfart.

Despite playing with just three, Alabama went on a 26-16 run and actually outscored Minnesota, 30-22, after Petty left with the injury. In fact, the Tide had a chance to cut their deficit to one with just over a minute left after Sexton grabbed a defensive rebound, but he missed a midrange jumper.

I can't think of a good reason a cbb coach would not be able to exploit a 2 person advantage.
When I watched pretty much every Minnesota shot was a two point jumper, taken after turning down any uncontested three point shot they wanted. Also Alabama got buckets in transition. Was pretty bizarre.

I skimmed a bit. Minnesota looked completely confounded. They might’ve been better off playing each end 3-on-3 or 4-on-3, with cherry-pickers on both ends, vs. the bullshit they kept settling for.

Pretty impressive.  Eight games in and their résumé is better than ours will be at the end of the season.

I watched the last 6 or 7 minutes of that game and it sounded like Walton and the other commentator (not sure who he was) literally hated each other.  They were taking jabs at each other but you could tell it wasn't friendly banter.  And I would have felt the same way.  I couldn't believe some of the crap Walton was saying..  It was great TV.

Didn't even realize ku was playing, or lost, but if Graham does end up proving to not even be close to Mason, this ku team will once again be a faltering tourney team we have come to know and love ever since they've been without Sherron Collins. Bill Self's best teams always have a top notch PG, and didn't really have that until Mason since Collins.

They will still probably win the Big 12 though, it's hard to not when you are essentially no worse than 8-1 and more like 9-0 at AFH. You can piss away a handful of games on the road then.

I don't really see it with this ku [klux klan] roster. The front court is not good and the guards are okay, not game changers. None of them get to the line, which is ku magic to win the conf every year. they have the worst bench in the Big12 right now, not goEing.

I am starting to hedge on "Self will do what he always does" a little bit.

This article brings up a good point: http://cjonline.com/sports/hawkzone/2017-12-19/ku-basketball-ranks-350th-out-351-teams-alarming-statistic

Going from an average FT rate of 39% for typical Self teams to 18% this year is a big leap and not likely to change much. Also, Self teams usually shoot about 30% of their FGs from 3, this year is 40%. Self's aggressive style with a stud at lead guard may just not be possible this year and I'm not sure he can finesse his way to a Big 12 title.

Ku 15 TOs
Tech 26 pts off of those TOs

OR% - Tech 46.2, KU 23.5

TT straight owned ku from the tip off. That was probably the most thorough beatdown ku has had at the phog in a long time.

Amazing -- Tech won at Ku while shooting just 47.7 eFG

More amazing - Tech led for 40 minutes and 00 seconds tonight in Lawrence

Tech scored before the game started :surprised: which KU walk on dunked in warm ups?

Hopefully we play ku before their paid player professional rapists are improperly granted eligibility.

They look like a great matchup for our center-less roster.

Neither team looked very good. WVU and OU seem to be the class of the conference.

I predict at the end of the season someone will make a thread about all of the Big 12 road wins this year and will ask if we're shocked or surprised.

The strength of the conference will probably work in KUs favor this year since everyone is going to get beat up. They do look as weak as ever, though. They had to shoot lights out from 3 to beat Texas.

I think the strength of the conference is going to grind them to dust.  They have no size, no depth, no true PG, and don't defend.  They are going to get worse as the season progresses (if Preston gains eligibility, this will be mitigated somewhat) and are going to lose a lot of games.

If the name on the front of their jerseys wasn't Kansas, we would be talking about them as a bubble team more than a contender to win the conference.  I'm confident than they'll finish ahead of Iowa State and Texas in conference.  Beyond that, I'm sure they'll finish ahead of a few others, but I don't know who...probably Baylor I guess.  Streaks like theirs don't end by getting caught at the tape.  They're going to go down hard.

OU - WVU is fun.

Carter schooled Young much of the first half, but that has evened out.

And there is Teddy Allen, 12 points in 12 minutes on 8 shots. 2nd best scorer in this league behind Young.

Boyle pretty obviously has whined about this to the local media. I don't understand why it feels better, Book Richardson isn't there anymore and Javhon Quinerly is still in high school. Is he saying that Arizona has a paid roster? How is he sure that no one on his roster has received inducements? Actually he coaches Colorado basketball, no one cares enough to give his players anything.
