it’s not just this playoffs, there’s so many great nba playoffs.  but yeah this year is another great one
I especially like this one because it's got so many new faces for the casual fan. And they're so good

If you aren't in some elite F1 party I'm sure it's like every other racing event. Sit there and watch cars go by having no real idea what is happening, probably even worse on a road course.

I tried one Nascar and indycsr event when KS opened, decided it was not for me. Seemed incredible waste of time.

I watched the F1 Vegas one and was only interested when I could see a Vegas monument

"has anyone been to an F1 race, maybe in Europe"

"based on my experience at a nascar race at kansas speedway, it would suck"

lol love ya phil

A car race is a car race. The F1 allure is the glitz right?

No

Not to go off track here but what is the difference in F1 vs Nascar or indycar?

Cars and tracks and rules and storylines and global presence. No ovals in F1 is probably the biggest along with races all over the world and also the cars are faster and more advanced than the others.

So car racing with fancy presence/parties. Going faster isn't a different experience. Indycar does road tracks and so does Nascar right?

I get there maybe differences to the trained racing eye but I wasn't getting that level of depth from the original question hence my original answer.

LOL ok phil

I saw the indy cars at the legends speedway once, I was bored 2 laps in as well.

The nhra races in Topeka were more casual friendly I think, and kept me entertained for the whole event. Maybe a trip to Topeka is in the cards for the michigancat household?
I looked into NASCAR at Watkins Glen but it isn't until September

What about F1 is so appealing to young women?

My theory is it's a soap opera and the boys are very cute and charming and kind of daredevils. I'm sure the Netflix show exploded the number of female fans in the US

This was a very big moment in my household:

my boss went to the vegas race, he's not into racing, he took his daughter who is. He liked the cars, but he was not into the event, at all, said he'd never do it again.

I don't think it's a sport that will get you hooked in a one time in-person event like maybe the US Open (tennis) or college football could. But the more immersed I get, the more enjoyable it gets

honestly I'd prefer being around a giant group of KS Nascar fans to what I imagine the Euro F1 fan archetype to be. maybe I'm being a bigot towards slimy, smelly euros here though.

Are you afraid their avant garde fashion will make you feel inferior?

no, I grew up around nascar fans so their clothing is not too big a deal to me

I lived in Austin, and every fall, these rich critters would descend upon the city, making normal routines obsolete. I'ma pull a daxtag and say #Eurotrash. But it's very expensive, so they're wealthy Eurotrash. I have experienced them first-hand.

The Eurotrash that flies in to Austin or Miami is very different from the Eurotrash that camps in a forest at the Belgian Grand Prix or the idiot tifosi in Italy

Honestly I'd bet hardcore Kansas NASCAR fans and hardcore Euro F1 fans are very similar but overall agree I'd prefer the Kansas interactions

the highlight of the season for me was the sprint race in Miami where Magnussen was running off the track to keep Lewis from passing him and catching up to K-Mag's Haas teammate. SOOOOOOO funny and reckless (but not too reckless). (And I love Lewis!)

Also I love the sassy radios! Haha the drivers get so sassy!

my daughter watched the F1 series and got super into it, so I started watching races and listened to some podcasts on roadtrips with her and kind of got hooked. It's such a silly sport! There are 10 teams of 2! Same 20 drivers every race! (more or less) They all do goofy promos for crap but all are ultra rich and live in monaco! The rules are stupid and arbirtrary! Max easily wins every race!

seriously it's very fun

has anyone been to an F1 race? my daughter got super into it and now I am too and now I want to go to one. It almost looks like Europe is the cheapest way to do it.

hard to believe that the pacers didn’t foul at the end of regulation.  great game ruined by a boston win.
That was about the fifth worst thing they did at the end of regulation. Shame because they were doing great

Yes and Indiana playoffs will be as cheap as it gets outside of maybe San Antonio
They take basketball seriously here. Even when the spurs suck they pack the arena. It’s the only pro team in town so it’s a big deal.
Yeah but still gonna be dirt cheap compared to everyone else

The descent of "America's Mayor" into utter cringe has really been something to witness.

I saw that and was mildly blown away as well. I mean he's the last person in the world outside of like bluegrass musicians who I would guess did not know that.

I agree that the robot restaurant is great if it's not dead.  My group also did a Mario Kart-esque tour where we dressed in costumes and cruised around Tokyo.  It seemed way safer than I would've expected experiencing traffic in the States but I'd imagine the lil' Daves are too young.

The pig/puppy/monkey/owl cafes seem fun but are super depressing once you get in there.

I went to a hedgehog cafe that was fine

Also, my universal replay rule for all sports is that if they can't make a definitive call in 30 seconds or fewer, the call on the floor stands.

So amazing to see a band you love in a setting like that. I'm rarely jealous but I'm very jealous of that experience. But mostly happy for my friend and good person, Pete
