Gene isn't making any move, my brotha, so might as well hope for the tournament and a lucky run.

why not?  There is not objective measuring stick that pete hughes doesn't suck

It's because of that dipshit extension Mean Gene gave him

Good news, we’re getting the living crap kicked out of us. Like we love.

“Mr. June" Pete Hughes knows exactly what he's doing

Yes, he'll be spending his entire postgame press conference complaining that if the name on the purple jerseys was "Texas" that there's zero question this team would be in the NCAA tourney.

Needed a gem from Boerma and we got it (at least by our standards).

I "think" if we can beat TCU tomorrow, we're back on the right side of the bubble. Lose and who the hell knows.

Wentworth threw 34 pitches yesterday, so perhaps he gets the start tomorrow and then he goes as long as he can before we go with Dean. Only bad part is TCU roughed up Wentworth a couple of weeks ago (6 ER in 3.1 innings). But, Dean held his own in that same game (1 run on 3 hits in 4.2 innings).

KU threw their mid-week starter with a 5+ ERA and we scored 1 run. After that, they threw  mediocre arms until the 9th when they put in their closer and we still couldn't plate more than 1 run - largely because our situational hitting is terrible (10 LOBs).

We threw our bad mid-week starter for 3 innings and then our best pen guys the rest of the way. And, we still lost.

We'll face WVU or TCU tomorrow (we lost the series to both 1-2). The only way we don't lose is if Boerma throws a gem and/or the sleepy bats we've had for the last month wake up.

Lose tomorrow and it'll be surprising if we make the tourney because we'll likely have an RPI in the 50s and three of the four other Big 12 bubble teams (Cincy, TCU, UCF) will have better RPIs with KU potentially surpassing us as well.

From the fun fact department - it would be interesting to know if an NCAA head coach has ever had at least one player who would become a first round draft pick on his teams for five straight years and fail to reach the NCAA tourney a single time. In Hughes' case, it's 2019 & 2021 (Wicks - no tourney in 2020) and 2022, 2023, 2024 (likely Culpepper).

Our RPI isn't going to be in the 50s.  We've been in the middle 30s for 2 months.

We're at 44 (and falling) in the NCAA RPI and at 48 (and falling) in the D1baseball.com RPI.

Today is quite likely a must-win game.

I think we go 11-1, win the CCG, get a bye, win that game, lose semis to UGA or w/e by 2+ TDs. We use that as motivation for our year next year when Avery wins Heisman and we go 16-0

I would consider sacrificing my first born to make this happen.

Have we obtained any receivers that can run routes and catch balls yet? I feel like that's going to have a bigger impact than our OL this year.

I think it largely hinges on Johnson being healthy and the Penn State transfer being more like he was in the MAC and less like he was in the Big Ten last year.

Would have been nice for Fritch to get some commentary from some of the athletes Rovelto coached over the years...

Regarding the new hire, I'm hoping we see something better from Mean Gene than we've seen with some of the other Olympic sports (baseball being the worst example). I'd love to see him go for a top assistant at one of the premier programs. With the potential for elimination of partial scholarship sports in the next few years, there's a huge opportunity for programs around the country to become true players in track/XC.
Is there an assistant somewhere with connections to Jamaica? They could lure elite talent here and turn KSU into a cradle of sprinters.

I'm not sure we have the climate for that...

If it were me, I'd hire the best throws coach at a premiere school and go all-in on throws and multi-events with a lighter emphasis on middle distance/distance.

We may be "High Jump U" right now (though, frankly, we haven't really been for a while), but that all goes out the window when Rovelto leaves. And, hitching your wagon to athletes who, for the most part, only score points in one event isn't typically a recipe for success at the conference/national level (as it relates to competing for team titles).

Two runs on six hits against a team with a 7+ ERA and an opp. BA of .314 in Big 12 play...

Oh, what the hell - a win's a win.

Pt 1: What the hell was Mean Gene thinking when he hired Pete Hughes?
Pt 2: What in the eff was Mean Gene thinking when he gave Pete Hughes an extension?
Pt 3: Why does Mean Gene hate K-State alum/heart throb Rob Vaughn?
Pt 4: Will Mean Gene fire Pete Hughes from the golf course and let you listen on speakerphone?

I actually might be able to get some of this info from Coach Clark.  We'll definitely have some drinks together.  #3 is cued up my friend.

We have two wins (both at home) over No. 17 Oklahoma State - those are our only top 30 RPI wins (vs. 7 losses). And we were outscored 41-75 in those games.

It's a bit of apples/oranges, but not many teams would get an at-large bid to the b-ball NCAA tourney with a 2-7 record against top 30 in RPI.

Probably an awful guess, but if we played today...

Starters:
PG - Dug
OG/Wing - M Jones
OG/Wing - CJ Jones
Stretch F - AA
F/C - DNG

Rotation:
Castillo
Hausen
Fall

Limited PT:
Rich, Manning, Mobi

Would be nice to see major improvements from Manning and Rich, but I'm not optimistic (especially since Manning's already been in the program two years with seemingly minimal improvement).

And if our other all-american/upcoming first round draft pick makes a routine play in the 8th, it doesn't get to extras.

Enjoy the roller coaster of Pete Hughes baseball - it's all we have at this point.

So, the lightly recruited JUCO player has an agent.

10th for the men and 11th for the women.

Time for Rovelto to step aside...

Utah didn't beat a single team that finished the year ranked in the top 25 and had two wins against teams that finished with winning records (UCLA & USC, both 8-5). And, they lost by 14+ points to three of the four teams they played that did finish the year ranked.

I think they'll finish in the upper third, but seems odd to me to predict them as the champs given that they'll be in a new conference, playing in new stadiums, dealing with different travel scenarios, etc. coupled with the fact that they weren't particularly great last year.

K-State doesn't have anyone entered in the Men's decathlon at the Phillips. What is going on?

Don't know about that, but this is nice

Not sure what happened (injury, etc.), but Jones missed the last month of the season (5-6 games or so).

I have IRL looked up housing prices in suburban Toronto. Vancouver would be better, but it's too expensive.

22
Taking into account inflation, the cost of the football upgrades alone goes from $192 million (2012 - $75m; 2015 - $65m; 2020 - $52m) to $250 million. Probably at least another $50ish million in inflation for the other upgrades and you're approaching $500 million without factoring in any other elements.

We are No. 36 in RPI entering this weekend against No. 40 WVU. Road games against top 40 RPI teams count as Quad 1 games. Then, next week, all three games against BYU are Quad 4 (currently 128 in RPI). Ideally, we grab at least 1 Q1 this weekend and then sweep BYU next week - 1-2 losses against them would hurt us pretty significantly. If we can go 4-2 these last two weeks and then win 1-2 in the Big 12 tourney, I think we're safely in.

Lose any to BYU and get swept by WVU, then it's bubble time and dependent on a semi-deep run in the Big 12 tourney.

So, Murray's brother married Christina Stauffer in 2000. Prior to that, she had been a second unit director on a bunch of movies (Cider House Rules, Magnolia, Wyatt Earp, etc.). Apparently, they met on the set of Groundhog Day, dated for several years and then got married. After they were married, she went back to K-State and got her Vet Med degree in 2008 and then worked at an animal hospital in LA after that.

If she's close to the age of Murray's brother, she would have went back to get that degree in her 50s - kind of crazy to go from making movies in Hollywood to being a vet doctor at that stage of one's life, but good for her.
