I don't think you know very much about Texas politics, and that's OK.which states will be the last holdouts? could KS realistically hold out longer than Utah?Texas.
I may be out of the loop here, but wouldn't legal weed be good for Texas, especially those that are so gung-ho on cracking down on illegal immigration? I know most of the best stuff is Made in the USA these days, but wouldn't legalization put the guys trafficking tons of brick-weed across the border out of business.
Seems like Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, both shitty Carolinas, etc would all be super quick to want to be able to legally grow this stuff. :dunno:Yeah. Dude hates Thursdays and Fridays, especially.
Too bad Jesus was well known in his dislike of week, I guess.
Nobody is in favor of it being illegal, right?
Indifferent. Does it really NEED to be legal, though? Is it that big of an issue :dunno:
Nobody is in favor of it being illegal, right?
I am in favor of it being illegal. We don't need to legalize more crap that only makes people stupider and lazier. We've already got more than enough of that.

It's always the same flippant, ignorant "dur, you're a big government hypocrite" response. I'd be much more libertarian if I wasn't expected to pay for this lazy lifestyle on the other end. Dramatically reduce welfare so that I'm not paying for your meals, housing, and healthcare, and you're free to live the rest of your life in a drug-addled daze.

I don't think there will be a "last state" holdout, it will probably come from the federal level so there will be multiple "last states", kind of like gay marriage.
And I know plenty of highly motivated weed smokers. I actually don't know any lazy weed smokers, because smoking cali weed is an expensive habit.

Yes, there are crap tons of lazy, losery weed smokers. The thing is they're going to be lazy and high on weed whether it's legal or not.

yeah I'm sure I know far more pot smokers than lazy people. Just because of who I associate with. Generally, the stereotypical lazy pothead K-S-U is afraid of would be just as lazy without the weed.
As a Modern Whig, I believe we should approach these issues from a critical thinking standpoint rather than bringing in our ideologies and preconceptions. KSUW appears to believe that smoking weed necessarily makes a person lazy and stupid. Perhaps he has observed lazy and stupid people who smoke marijuana and thus drew a lazy and stupid conclusion that the marijuana was the cause for their laziness and stupidity. It could simply be the case that a lot of lazy and stupid people happen to smoke marijuana, which would explain the phenomenon wherein intelligent and industrious people can also be observed smoking marijuana.

it can't possibly be the second thing you said, spracne
i know it in my bones
I feel like getting lazy and stupid tonight:thumbs:
I'm with bread on this. The amount of money wasted chasing around weed in this country has got to be astronomical. Why not tax the stuff and step 2 profit?Issue weed use licenses similar to a drivers license. Make pot legal, but you have to show the license to purchase it the Brownback Weed and Funny Brownie Emporium. Tax the hell out of it. If stopped for a traffic violation or commit a crime and you have pot, you have to show your license to show it is legal. Too many non violent people in jail due to weed conviction - often dads who need be supporting kids.
people get just a whif of that devil herb in them and boom they're lazy sobsI, for one, appreciate you leaving the "l" out of there. I'd hate to be guilty by association.
seen it happen again and again
I knew a number of people in high school - smart people and good athletes - who got heavy into weed. Things did not work out well for them. You can argue 'til you're blue in the face that regular pot use doesn't harm people, make them lazier or dumber, but I've seen it first hand. Some of them we're friends of mine and it still makes me angry to see that wasted potential. But believe what you want. We don't need any more legal opiates for the masses. There are too many already. You're right, weed is the only possible explanation for them failing to become exceptional adults.
what if I told you rich people love weed?
K-S-U is so weird.
"heavy into weed" lolOnce it's legalized, they will be called connoisseurs while smoking with the girls at book club.

A number of people that went to your high school is certainly a sufficient sample size.
CASE CLOSED!!!
Do ppl walk down the street smoking it now, chicat? Just curious how this works.

this is so very true
Interesting.Do ppl walk down the street smoking it now, chicat? Just curious how this works.
Was in Denver this past July. We encountered it a bunch on the street around the 16th st mall. It wasn't fully out in the open, but we often saw ppl holding it with a cupped hand hiding it and smoking as they walk.

I would see how people would take the edibles in public, but it seems like smoking bans would make smoking it in public just as stupid as walking around with a bottle of booze.

:dunno: I didn't notice anyone being outraged, and there are/were plenty of police all around that mall not enforcing the crap out of it.

I have yet to see people just flat out smoking it in public, which is still illegal. I've definitely been walking down the street and caught a strong smell on occasion. I've been to bars before/after legalization where people will just step outside to smoke and nobody cared. As CNS said, I would imagine if a cop saw you smoking it in public he would at most make you put it out and be done with it. It would probably take a complaint from someone for them to even do that.
I have a buddy who's having a huge bachelor party next month in Colorado and his sole premise of choosing to go there is so he can get super baked with his buds up on the slopes. I've partaken before, but i'm not good on it. I passed on this trip. I'm sure it will be fun for them tho.

I generally don't see any more people smoking weed in public than I did when it was illegal. Like, ChiCat said, it's still illegal to openly consume. There are a lot of things that haven't been fleshed out with respect to the idea of what constitutes "openly" since the regs basically just took it from the liquor laws. One thing that kinda hampers the whole thing is that tourists come into town, buy their bounty, and then have no place to really consume it due to the Colorado Clean Air Act's restrictions on businesses and general snobbery of hotels in denying their patrons the ability to smoke in designated areas. Basically it's not that big of a deal, but you generally can't just walk down a main street smoking a doob without getting some looks. Vaporizors have changed the game with respect to that though.

Does the candy taste like ass?
We need to legalize it, but only can be used mix with tobacco in a cig or pipe so we can get more tabacco tax. I am not in favor of consumable pot products = would kill Halloween and if dogs got ahold of such food they could go crazy. Also it should not be sold to Ferguson supporters; they are aready reefer mad.

wacky, tell them to steer clear of the strawberry crunch bar. it's tastes like pepto. the peanut butter bar is the way to go. it's delicious. Will do, bud. <----- w/ weed bars instead.
I don't think they should sell edibles. It can be a little dangerous for noobs, it can be too hard to control your intake or keep out of kids hands. If you want them you should make them yourself.Sounds like a bottle of liquor. It's not our fault these kids are attics.

You can't overdose from weed so what's the problem
I don't know you guys. Every time I've done the weed, I feel like I'm going to stay that way forever and I freak the eff out!Maybe you should be more like an addict, and consume in your attic?

I'm not sure that's true for a 2 year old eating a bag of candy.

I meant young children accidentally eating candy and cookies, etc. The problem with edibles is they can take an hour or more for you to start to feel the effects, so people can eat too much thinking they need more, then it hits and it's too late. If you make your own, you have more control.
Some bastard will mix weed and chocolate ex-lax together and give it to kids. Their motor skills will be so numbed they will slump in a stupor state and crap themselves. Our poor underpaid teachers have enough to do without potty duty. Edibles are stupid.

It's true that people with chronic pain can take lower doses of prescription pain killers when combined with marijuana. But, even in states with legal medicinal marijuana, doctors are hesitant or even restricted by health corporations to prescribe both at the same time.

You make it seem like getting a red card is difficult. It isn't, especially those with actual chronic pain. And really it doesn't matter unless you don't want to pay taxes, most just buy rec.
Also, CPD (think that's the name) is becoming big now. No THC present, don't get the high but still benefit from the pain relief smong other benefits apparently.

Republitards are freaking out because malia Obama was "caught" smoking a joint at lollapalooza  (also "twerking" and wearing slutty clothes)
I think when your justice department is putting people in prison for a substance you and your kids should have to abstain.
Granted Obama has released some nonviolent offenders with mandatory sentencing but last time I checked there were no executive orders saying weed was ok
So the presidents family should disregard the fact it is a schedule 1 controlled substance since the federal govt doesn't prosecute for possession of small substances

Yeah, maybe you're right, I would assume that she knows eyes are on her at all times tho. Why do I have to hide it from everyone? :curse: Weed is pretty harmless, unless it's laced and you think you're going to be like that forever. :curse: :shakesfist:

should probs have to pay back that welfare apartment thing he had while hooked on drugs?I smoke pot like twice a year, in a group setting. Never did it when I lived in the river market, so i'm good. :gocho:

Yeah, you're probably right.
Smoking pot and driving while doing it should be treated as a DUI. That's kind of a big deal to shun off, nardfrog.
yes. nobody has ever been busted for smoking weed at a music festival. it would have been completely unprecedented.
I'm the life of the party, but I know what's legal and not legal IRL and don't make excuses for it, to make myself feel better about breaking the law.Smoking pot and driving while doing it should be treated as a DUI. That's kind of a big deal to shun off, nardfrog.
No, it shouldn't.
You must be a blast at social gatherings.
Yeah, I bet there's not security/cops around the presidents daughter when she goes out in public. :rolleyes:yes. nobody has ever been busted for smoking weed at a music festival. it would have been completely unprecedented.

is that what I said? i'm just saying that this notion of music festivals as being some lawless wild west place where cops would never ever give a second look at recreational drug use is probably a little exaggerated.yes. nobody has ever been busted for smoking weed at a music festival. it would have been completely unprecedented.
People "busted" by a video camera? I would say you're probably correct
Plenty of ppl on this board have been around me in a social setting. Why don't you ask them, ass monkey.I'm the life of the party, but I know what's legal and not legal IRL and don't make excuses for it, to make myself feel better about breaking the law.
Doubtful.
Statements like that scream, "I'm the neckbeard in a fedora who sits in the corner of the party and acts like a wet blanket when people are having fun."
You're a rough ridin' idiot then and no one can help your reckless self. T's & P's.Smoking pot and driving while doing it should be treated as a DUI. That's kind of a big deal to shun off, nardfrog.
No, it shouldn't.

I don't even know wtf a fedora is, so zero.

Do you not understand the physiological differences between alcohol and THC?
You are aware that they have vastly different effects on humans, correct?
Yeah, I've experienced them both. Neither should be allowed behind the wheel, next to a caravan full of soccer players (kids) on a random Tuesday.
only nardfrog could get wacky confused with a "neckbeard/fedora" hipster type
yeah how many is it wacky? a billion I bet? psh. get back to your mountain dew and halo. i'm gonna go throw on some slightly stoopid, rip my bong, and drive the 435 loop once or twice like a grown up. I try to get better everyday, but I can't stay away from those damn hats and I can't shave this itchy beard for the life of me. :frown:
If she's doing that, she should be pulled over for it. Those kids are in danger.Yeah, I've experienced them both. Neither should be allowed behind the wheel, next to a caravan full of soccer players (kids) on a random Tuesday.
The mom driving that caravan and facebooking is tremendously more dangerous than a pot smoker behind the wheel on a random Tuesday (or any day for that matter).

To summarize yesterday's release:
Pot will not be reclassified as it has no medical value. Science is science. The govt is allowing more research into how to better harness the medical advantages of pot.
Their arguments were a little catch 22 in that research couldn't really be done because it has been a schedule 1 drug and without medical value found, it stays a schedule 1.

The government has pot farms and gives the weed out to researchers
Saying viaka should only be legal by prescription almost surely means you are racist and/or hate poors.

You should read up on Chuck Rosenberg.
While the DEA continues to dig in on Schedule I status, deeming no medical benefit, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services simultaneously holds a patent on cannabinoids for a wide range of medicinal purposes.
Can you patent something that is currently illegal?
Nobody is saying anything about weed making men sterile. The.US is.at its.lowest birthrate ever. The zero population growth of the Sustainable Earthers want zero. I smell conspiracy.

Such a nasty drug. Ppl who do it are the super Brown's of the world. :frown:Interesting stance given your defense of smoking cigarettes the other day.
Also, how do we arrange a smoke sesh with FSD and the jazz band?
I kinda wanna do weed candy now fwiw. Maybe I will go to Colorado next month.

How long did that take you to find? There's a difference between ppl who do it recreationally and ppl who need it/live by it daily. :frown: it's a poors drug.

Same way with booze, really. Going nuts on liquor on the occasional Saturday is fine, while getting wasted at home on a Wednesday night is just pathetic. Both drugs should be legal, imo. We shouldn't let the few who have problems dictate how everyone else has to live.
Heaters are legal, friend. Always have been. Ppl who love weed usually have shitty unclean households, smell like crap, and talk like dumbasses. :th_twocents:

Also those ppl who can't wasted at home on the occasional Wednesday are safer/smarter ppl that are risking people's lives on the road. We hear a lot about ppl drinking and driving, but nothing about pot heads smoking and driving. Those ppl are my dangers to society IMO.
We all know who you were aiming at with that post because I'm an open book and share everything on this board. I'm in the best position of my life and have earned it by busting my ass. You can throw darts all you want, but I'm good. There's a lot of ppl out there who are good ppl getting wasted on a occasional Wednesday here and there. I don't feel bad about it when my company hosts free HH on a Wednesday every month to share their gratitude. I also don't hold myself above others like some do on this board. Most of the ppl who love weed, like lib, love to talk crap on others on this board. I think it's fair to say everyone on here has their own quirks. Also those ppl who can't wasted at home on the occasional Wednesday are safer/smarter ppl that are risking people's lives on the road. Wacky, there is a pretty slippery slope from drinking too much beer during the week to becoming a deadbeat loser that drinks a case of Busch Light and a pint of Kentucky Deluxe every day while not being able to keep a job. If the "getting wasted on Wednesday" comment struck a chord with you, I would reevaluate a few things before you end up with a serious problem.
So we are to assume you NEVER do anything that is illegal? Also it's LEGAL in CO and now Nevada. Maybe it's ok if you do it there?
I honestly don't have a problem with weed. Just wanted to see how many dumbasses responded. However, buying alcohol from a liquor store > having some rando dealer. I'd hope most were smart enough not to put their family in that type of situation.Go back to the kickball thread and let the adults talk here.
Man just stop. That's like saying an alcoholic parent is better than smoking weed. One brings some strange dude into their house (drug dealer) vs the other guy going to purchase stuff legally. There's a major difference.

I guess I could be considered a poor, as I make less than six figures. Sometimes my house isn't as clean as others, and I'm guessing sometimes I smell bad. All that being said, I'm really just trying to figure out what the hell your point is.
Just chill out and pound another Jeff Session IPA. I suspect maybe you think all pot smokers are dirty, poor losers because you happen to have lived around lots of dirty, poor losers.I do know a lot of peeps who went to KU. :dunno:

It's not my thing but there's nothing wrong with lighting up and relaxing as long as long as you're not doing it everyday, same as alcohol. Then it might be a problem. Plus it's better that the criminal thugs of today's society are smoking more and drinking less now that it is becoming legal in some states. That way their too lazy to commit crimes and just go eat chicken instead.Chicken eh? What ever could you be implying?

Even as an anti-weedite I think this move by Trump and Sessions is petty and ridiculous, shame on that elf.I agree. I don’t like the selective enforcement of the law. Obama did it and it torqued me off. Now runt Session is doing it now. Trump is trump.

Trump abandons crackdown on legal Marijuana
Policy change could eliminate threat to businesses in state
By EVAN HALPER
WASHINGTON
The Trump administration is abandoning a Justice Department threat to crack down on recreational marijuana in states where it is legal, a move that could enable cannabis businesses in California and other states that have legalized pot to operate without fear of federal raids and prosecution.
President Donald Trump personally directed the abrupt retreat, which came at the behest of Republican Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado. White House officials confirmed the policy shift Friday. Trump did not inform Attorney General Jeff Sessions in advance of the change in policy.
Gardner was incensed in January when the Justice Department announced that it was rescinding an Obama-era policy that directed federal prosecutors not to target marijuana businesses that operate legally under state law. The senator had blocked Justice Department nominees in retaliation.
In conversation with Trump this week, Gardner said he was assured that the federal government would not interfere with his state’s marijuana industry and that Trump would champion a new law that gives states the authority to set their own pot policies. In response, he lifted his remaining holds on nominees.
“Late Wednesday, I received a commitment from the president that the Department of Justice’s rescission of the Cole memo will not impact Colorado’s legal marijuana industry,” Gardner said, referring to the Obama-era policy, named after former Deputy Attorney General James Cole, who issued it.
“Furthermore, President Trump has assured me that he will support a federalism-based legislative solution to fix this states’ rights issue once and for all.”
White House officials confirmed that Gardner’s comments accurately reflect the administration’s position.
“The president did speak with Sen. Gardner yesterday and again today,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters Friday at the White House. She said “the president is a firm believer” in states’ rights and confirmed Gardner’s account of the assurances he received from the president was accurate.
A Justice Department official, who requested anonymity to speak frankly about internal discussions, confirmed that Trump did not consult Sessions before talking with Gardner. Sessions, a longtime anti-drug crusader, personally announced the administration’s marijuana crackdown policy in January.
The attorney general and Trump have had a frosty relationship for months, largely over Trump’s continued criticism that Sessions recused himself from any involvement into the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
California is one of eight states in which recreational marijuana is legal. The administration’s announcement in January that it was allowing prosecutors to target businesses selling pot legally under state laws put a cloud of uncertainty over the rapidly growing cannabis industry.
The talk of a crackdown threatened to slow investment in marijuana companies, which risked shutdown and seizure of their products at the decision of a single U.S. attorney. Under federal law, marijuana remains categorized as among the most dangerous drugs available, and one that has no valid medical purpose.
Marijuana stocks, which started the day down, surged after word spread of the Trump administration’s new posture toward the industry.
The mixed signals coming out of the administration, however, left some marijuana advocates proceeding with caution.
“I’m a big fan of wait-and-see what happens, but this is amazing news,” said Will Senn, co-founder of Urbn Leaf, which operates two licensed marijuana stores in San Diego and will soon open a third.
“I don’t think this will have much impact on retail sales. But it could help lead to more financial investment in the cannabis industry.”
Senn is vice president of Floris Fund, a private equity fund that is trying to raise $40 million to invest in the cannabis industry. He said the fund has raised close to half that figure.
“Today’s news will help our industry across the board, with everything from banking to investments to greater public acceptance,” said Lincoln Fish, chief executive of Outco, a cultivator and wholesaler near El Cajon that provides stores with recreational and medical marijuana.
“This has always been a states’ rights issue and we are pleased that this administration has finally recognized that right.”
Zach Lazarus, co-founder of A Green Alternative, a licensed retailer in Otay Mesa, said, “It would be unwise for Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions to try to shut down lawful dispensaries. It’s legal. People want it.
“Our growth is going through the roof, we’re employing more people, and we’re paying our taxes.”
Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., a leader of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, called the commitment Gardner secured from Trump “another head-spinning moment.”
“We should hope for the best, but not take anything for granted,” Blumenauer said. “Trump changes his mind constantly, and Republican leadership is still in our way.”
Blumenauer is championing a measure that would prohibit federal law enforcement from using any money to crack down on recreational marijuana businesses operating legally under state law. That would expand an existing law that prevents federal law enforcement agencies from using their funds to go after companies legally selling medical marijuana, which is permitted in 29 states. The ban is the result of a budget rider Congress approved in 2014, and has renewed multiple times since.
Halper writes for the Los Angeles Times.
Union-Tribune staff writer Gary Robbins contributed to this report.
In conversation with Trump this week, Gardner said he was assured that the federal government would not interfere with his state’s marijuana industry and that Trump would champion a new law that gives states the authority to set their own pot policies. In response, he lifted his remaining holds on nominees.

"THC breaks down completely by 392 degrees, therefore we will use both steam as well as a heat process that will expose the meat to 420 degree extended temperature, in order to ensure there is no possibility of carryover effect (even though the likelihood of such would be literally impossible)," she said.
Amendment 3
All of this looks even more straightforward in comparison to Amendment 3, which was hatched by a Springfield attorney and physician named Brad Bradshaw.
His proposal, nicknamed the Bradshaw Amendment, would funnel the haul from its eye-popping 15% tax into the creation of a research institute that would aim to “develop cures for cancer and other incurable diseases or medical conditions.”
Bradshaw wrote the amendment. Bradshaw picked up the million-plus-dollar tab to put the measure on the ballot and advertise it. And Bradshaw stands to be the prime beneficiary if it passes, by appointing himself the head of the facility that would rake in revenues of around $66 million, according to the Missouri Secretary of State’s office.
If that strikes you as a touch bombastic, you’re not off the mark: In one of his video advertisements, Bradshaw appears in an operating room in scrubs, equating his proposed research facility to the projects that put a man on the moon and built the atomic bomb.
Amendment 3, in other words, is the marijuana-policy equivalent of a vanity plate.

The 66 million is from a 15% medical marijuana tax
What does that mean for the people imprisoned because of it?
We were in Colorado over the summer. I mailed myself like $150 worth of edibles. I haven't yet tried them. My wife stashed them somewhere after we returned home. Just last night at dinner, she informed me that she now has no idea where they are.

Starting today Illinois can legally sell marijuana. I think that kinda forces Missouri to legalize because of St Louis. Then I think that forces Kansas to legalize because of KC.
Thoughts?
Cannabis arrests accounted for 43 percent of all drug arrests in 2018, the most recent year the report covers, and an overwhelming majority of those arrests—89.6 percent—were for possession alone.
Overall, black people are 3.64 times more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana possession, even though usage rates are comparable. The trend toward legalization and decriminalization hasn’t reduced national trends in disparate enforcement—and in some parts of the country, they have worsened.
African Americans are more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession in every single state in the country.
“Racial disparities in marijuana possession arrests exist across the country, in every state, in counties large and small, urban and rural, wealthy and poor, and with large and small Black populations,” the report says. “Indeed, in every state and in over 95 percent of counties with more than 30,000 people in which at least 1 percent of the residents are Black, Black people are arrested at higher rates than white people for marijuana possession.”
In Colorado, the state with the least discriminatory enforcement rate, African Americans are still 1.5 times more likely to be busted for cannabis than white people are.
Is it synthetic like K2 K3 etc?
I never tried K2 when that was out but I knew some people that did that had horrible results.
I'll just stick with regular weed, good enough to get this little ol' cat fan blazed 420
Correct. I'm talking about ridiculous panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. Scary stuff.I never tried K2 when that was out but I knew some people that did that had horrible results.
Yes, synthetic substances are quite scary to me. This delta 8 thc tho is what the kids call “the bee’s knees” if you get my drift.
Telling Georgians that they get legal weed if they vote D seems like pretty good strategy from the democrats.Would be a bit dishonest but might turn out some more votes.

Also, you can't prove that was weed!

I feel like the NY Post doesn't understand that weed is legal in CA.
Seems like a waste of time
As in, it has no chance of passing into law.Seems like a waste of time
Huh?
What does decriminalize mean? You get caught with an amount under a threshold you just pay a fine like a parking ticket?

Lol, no. Where are these federal police officers that apparently go around arresting people for small amounts of marijuana? This law would still leave it up to the states.
States set their drinking age too. The feds just have incentives to set it at 21

I think the pattern has been medicinal to recreational pretty quickly. I fully expect Kansas to be one of the last 5 states to do it.Totally.
What happens first, outright legalization in Missouri or Medicinal in Kansas?

I feel the same about Texas. Somehow, Oklahoma got it done, which doesn't make sense to me. Even if the feds deschedule it, will states like Texas continue to criminalize it? Seems so weird to me.

Meg and Scott knew something was going on with their son Kyle when, during the pandemic, he began refusing to get out of bed to attend class online.
Up until then, Kyle had been like a dream son: tall, good-looking, strong, athletic, with a great sense of humor. He was such a good baseball player that talent scouts were checking him out, and had a decent chance of someday playing in the Major League.
“He had the world by the balls,” his dad said. (At the family’s request, The Post has used pseudonyms.)
Now, Kyle was constantly irritable and depressed and wanted to drop out of his New Jersey high school. Then, one night, he lost it completely, fantasizing that his parents wanted to kill him.
“Zero touch with reality,” Scott recalled. The family checked Kyle into a psychiatric facility, where his delusions got worse. He thought his dad ran the mafia and had put Joe Biden in office. He demanded that his parents give him $10 million.
Meg and Scott were sure their son was messed up on some hardcore drug. But when the institution ran a drug test, Kyle came up positive only for his prescribed Attention Deficit Disorder medication and for THC — that is, marijuana.
lol, this reads like an Onion articleThe prescribed methamphetamine couldn't possibly be responsible for any mental health issues their son was having either.

I support the war on certain types of drugs.
I know you and the rest of #blueanongE are all in on the most dangerous drugs on the planet and want them readily available for those that desire to partake. So there's no need to continue to remind me of that.

I think that’s the problem for a lot of people, especially w/ more potent strains and some of the less than natural alternatives. Is paranoia, anxiety, etc. likely just an exacerbation of underlying mental health issues? Probably.
I’m obviously pro legalization, but that doesn’t mean these negatives shouldn’t be looked at critically.

That seems like a big number to me :dunno: Plus, if you add up every person who has someone with a medicinal card buy weed for them, I bet it's 4 or 5 times that, easily. As of January of 2022, there were over 400,000 people in Oklahoma with a card.

Do you all really not know your Kansas geography at all?I do. I was giving him the business. It's barely closer, but there's no way he drives it vs going to his local guy that probably has a key to his house. I'm all about making weed legal, but some people make it their identity and it's kinda weird.
Missouri is definitely closer to Salina than Colorado.

Missouri is such a weird state. The fact they let Kansas legalize sports gambling first, but have been at the starting line at things like selling booze on Sunday early and legalizing weed is beyond me. Just go all out. Be the badass that you are and let people have fun. You let people drink in the passenger seat for crying out loud.

iirc the open container law does not apply inside the city limits of kcmo
Missouri Open Container Laws
In Missouri, the open container alcohol laws are less strict than in its neighboring state of Kansas. In fact, Missouri has some of the least stringent alcohol laws in the U.S. Missouri is one of only six states that has no general open container law for vehicles. In general, any passenger in a car is allowed to consume alcohol while the car is parked or in motion. However, some individual municipalities do have local liquor laws in place that forbid open containers in vehicles. Kansas City itself does not have one of these laws. Of course, the driver of any vehicle is forbidden from drinking while driving and severe penalties may occur if drivers are caught under the influence of alcohol.

When Illinois started this Iowa State troopers and sheriff's officers in the quad cities literally parked their cars facing the dispensaries on their side of the border.

the only cops who would care are leawood cops, and they happen to have a very long border with kcmo. and there will absolutely be dispensaries on state line rd
If anything, this is going to make traveling across State Line safer, as paranoid middle-aged men will be super alert to all requisite traffic laws in the area.

It seems like a bad business decision to locate your business in a spot where your customers can break the law just pulling out of the parking lot.
I suppose we also may have different definitions of "on state line"
What’s the sales tax rate on recreational weed? I would think Missouri is about to fill the coffers considerably. Will steal a lot of trips to Colorado i would think.Colorado brought in $680M in tax revenue the first year, and its grown a lot, up to $2.2B last year.
I don't think there will be that many new dispensaries to start. The ones that are there already will certainly get a rec license.

For sure, once those bodies are fully dead they can be autopsy’d for the specifics in those instances. My overall observation has been that where weed isn’t legal, people who want to get high strive for weed. Where it is legal, 1) there’s lots of weed shops with gross people in and around them, and 2) more people want/need to get higher.

Lol, no, you can't disagree with my observation, at least not without putting in 8 years here or someplace similar. It's my legs and eyes taking it all in.
You're adverse to and intolerant of alcohol, which is fine. Alcohol, particularly you drinking it, wrecks your quality of life. That doesn't change that disproportionate amounts of drug users and suppliers, whether legal or illegal, lowers (we could argue how much) the quality of life for the whole community.
I'd have taken some pics but I had my dog's leash occupying my left hand, and I have to keep my right hand free to hit/choke, because drug zombies.
Kansas suburbs will probably have the best of all worlds in that the users can conveniently go a short distance to procure weed from somewhat less annoying suppliers, without having as much of the accompanying crap around home.
Trim, I think you'd have a completely different opinion about your situation if you softened your stance on people who look like hippies or leftists. Even though weed wasn't fully legalized until after you moved to Seattle, you did choose one of the top 5 most hippie leftist places to live. Some of this might be just "coming to the nuisance," couldn't it?
I think you have some very good opportunities to make new friends from different cultures!
I know nothing about the heroin scene, but I’ll take your word for it. I haven’t seen anything like what you are describing in other cities with legal weed. Sounds awful tho, I agree with you on that.San Fra, Portland, and downtown Denver have gotten pretty bad in that department too.
I was in DT Denver for extended stays a couple times over the last year and was out on the town for dinner and shopping at their open market thing in the street , etc. and didn’t think it was bad at all.I know nothing about the heroin scene, but I’ll take your word for it. My tolerance for what others think of as a “bad element” is probably different than most. I mean, I go to Dead concerts etc and choose to be around the element that others apparently find off-putting. I have never once felt unsafe or disgusted. To each his own I guess.
I'm confused by the supposition that THC turns people into mentally ill heroin and meth addicts

I haven’t seen anything like what you are describing in other cities with legal weed. Sounds awful tho, I agree with you on that.San Fra, Portland, and downtown Denver have gotten pretty bad in that department too.
Chicago seems unchanged. Minneapolis has mostly legal weed (gummies and delta 8 regular weed), and no issues beyond people’s grievances with BLM stuff.
My tolerance for what others think of as a “bad element” is probably different than most. I mean, I go to Dead concerts etc and choose to be around the element that others apparently find off-putting. I have never once felt unsafe or disgusted. To each his own I guess.

It's a daxian leap to say that a grateful dead concert element is relevant to anything I'm describing. I'm out on this conversation until it resumes irl here.
My libertarian leaning ass is all for legalizing everything and taxing the crap out of it but at the same time I don't think gas stations should be selling heroin.
I don't know the answer to the problem but I'm glad I don't have to drive to Colorado when my Canadian friend wants some bud. I'm also looking forward to my Canadian friend buying me some mushrooms next summer when we pass through Colorado to vision quest in Wyoming.

lol, I'm sure you're not intending to do so but this is amazingly offensive. You just essentially called trim a paste eater
I have no idea if there is a correlation between cities that have legal weed and higher rates of homelessness/opiod addiction, but the part that doesn't really make a lot of sense to me is like, heroin, meth, et. al are already illegal so these folks are already willing to break the law, i don't see how weed being legal would really matter.
That's kind of like saying if i'm going to be a bank robber i'm going to move to Montana so if I end up in a high speed chase with the cops they can't bust me for speeding.

This is the precise moment that I learned Montana has no (daytime) speed limits.

You can disagree with the point without playing dumb about said point and insulting his intelligence. You don't think increased access to marijuana doesn't lead to more people gateway'n their way to other substance abuse issues. Got it. I haven't been made aware of any concrete studies that definitely prove or disproves this, do you?

I have no idea what the purpose of that story is other than to thank Obama for finally ending don’t ask don’t tell. The gulf war was in the early 90’s, champ. Said story is a example that after being targeted by many people, he still votes Republican after his experience there. The left focuses way too hard on the LGBTQ movement these days, and he even thinks it’s insane!

In Kansas, Overland Park Police Chief Frank Donchez addressed concerns of officers waiting to stop people for cannabis once they cross the state line.
“We’re not looking to stop people for that," Donchez said. "I want to put everybody’s mind at ease and let them know that’s not our focus. Our focus has always been safety and making sure people are safe.”

And in my view veterans are equally ignored by conservatives and liberals. Pretty much the only people that give a crap are other veterans (or people connected to veterans).

Iirc they have some sort of joint enforcement arrangement and can follow/pull you over on either sideYeah but if they pull you over on the Missouri side and find your stash you aren't breaking any laws right (even if they began their pursuit on the KS side)?

Missouri will allow the first dispensaries to begin selling marijuana for recreational use on Friday.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will begin converting medical marijuana licenses to adult use licenses on Friday. But it’s unclear when each dispensary will be approved.
Dispensaries had been expecting the licensure change on Friday, but many were under the impression that adult sales wouldn’t be permitted to start until Monday.
“Pleasantly surprised,” said Cardetti, the spokesman for the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association.
While it’s unclear when the state approvals will roll out, Cardetti said he expects dispensaries to begin selling to the public as soon as possible.
“We do think sales will begin tomorrow,” Cardetti said on Thursday.
So how will consumers know which dispensaries are approved and when?
“They absolutely ought to contact their dispensaries and check,” he said.
Bianca Sullivan plans to wake up at 5 a.m. Friday and start checking her email. She owns a Fresh Green dispensary in Lee’s Summit and in the Waldo neighborhood of Kansas City.
“I’ll just be there waiting with the staff. It’s just frustrating,” she said.
Like others, Sullivan had been planning on big crowds for Monday’s opening day. But now, she’s scrambling to ensure she has enough staff, product and security to handle customers through the weekend.
“Maybe we don’t have a huge line Monday morning,” she said. “So it might be good if it’s busy but not crazy this weekend.
State officials said most medical marijuana dispensaries in good standing — which most are — will see their licenses converted on Friday.
“We anticipate approvals tomorrow being a fairly quick notification process,” said DHSS spokeswoman Lisa Cox.
Do any of you guys know which ones are the good ones? Is it like liquor stores where some of them are just hole in the wall depressing little cheap vodka places and some are gourmet wine places? :dunno:

Recreational weed sales have officially begun in the state of Missouri.
To the surprise of many dispensary owners and customers alike, Missouri will allow the first dispensaries to begin selling marijuana for recreational use on Friday.
That means adults 21 years and older will be able to purchase recreational weed throughout the state over the weekend.
Monday, Feb. 6 had previously been identified as the day recreational sales would begin, but the state announced Thursday that many dispensaries will be granted their licenses earlier — as soon as Friday morning.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services confirmed on Friday morning that it has approved recreational licenses for 207 dispensaries across the state, including dozens around Kansas City.

All dispensaries that are licensed to sell medical marijuana in Missouri will have their license to sell to recreational users by Monday at the latest.
“Anybody can come in and buy,” said Chris McHugh of Vertical Cannabis in St. Joseph. “You don’t even have to be a resident as long as you’re 21 years or older. All you need is your ID, and your shopping experience would be kind of like any other place like a beer and wine store.”
The products you’ll be able to buy as a recreational user aren’t any different from the products you can buy as a medical user, according to McHugh. There aren’t separate ‘medical’ or ‘recreational’ weed products.

The taxes you pay will depend on what credentials you bring with you to the dispensary — medical users will need to bring their medical card and ID, and recreational users will only need to bring an ID to show they’re at least 21 years old.
Marijuana has an added state tax of 4% for medical users, and 6% for recreational users, on top of normal state and local sales taxes.
Editor’s note: This list includes the Kansas City area dispensaries that The Star has confirmed so far as of Friday morning. It is not exhaustive, and more dispensaries could have received their adult use licenses that we haven’t been able to confirm yet. We will continue updating this story as the day goes on and we learn more.

I love CBDs. It's helping me a lot with my dementia. Some folks really enjoy it for its relaxing effects, while others have concerns about its potential long-term impact.
