I also think its interesting how politics comes into play. What's a conspiracy theory for a lib is seen as crazy by a con and the other way around.
I can kinda see that division for the Obama birth conspiracy and 9/11 conspiracy, but I wouldn't say anywhere close to a majority of conservatives believe the Obama thing, or that anywhere close to a majority of liberals believe the 9/11 thing (and yeah, I'm not putting a lot of stock in opinion polling on these "issues").

My HS AP Physics teacher showed us one of those specials he recorded off Fox. It had points like "the flag appears to wave here, but there is no wind on the moon." He was genuinely distraught for a day or two. He loved NASA and he was questioning his faith in them. He is now in a high level leadership position at KSU Potytec.

Neither political party, at the leadership level, really wants to fix the education system. It is too easy of a political football for both sides to use to leverage their bases, as well as use as a door to push policy through that impacts other areas of society. You actually do something to really fix problems, or address the root issues, you risk angering your voting base, or losing that wedge issue through which you squeeze through your "reforms" that have little to do with educating kids.
Of course, I'm just a crazy social studies teacher, so I could be wrong.

The conspiracy people on this storm lose credibility because they try and use wide gaps in wind speed at various points in these storms to show they're being "concentrated" and "steered". Toss in the fact that a pretty important AFB got smacked and that only fuels them. Thing is, anyone who has been through Hurricanes can attest that even short distances can make a large differernce in what kind of wind speeds you experience.

What gets equally overlooked is that for all the super smart people who gambled huge on businesses and became mega rich, there are tons of others who completely failed. all the elite cabal conspiracy theories are complete horseshit. the richest and most powerful people on the planet prove day after day they can't walk in a straight rough ridin' line any more than you or I can and most times less so. the idea that a group of them get together to successfully direct traffic is laughable. that's one of the best things about the world becoming a very small place due to technology, real time news, social media, etc. you get to see even the most powerful people on the planet fumble around trying to get their own dick out of their pants, usually unsuccessfully. it makes me feel very competent.

I just don't understand getting deep in conspiracy theories. If you believe them and think they're true, what's the upside? Wouldn't believing these things just lead to more stress and anxiety?I think it touches on one of the most fundamental problems that humans have to grapple with: lack of control over their circumstances.
A lot of people are more comfortable believing that there is some highly organized cabal plotting against them than acknowledging that sometimes things just suck despite our best efforts. So in a way I think it’s actually an anxiety coping mechanism.
And FWIW, I think conspiracy theories are just one of the more extreme examples. Superstition is basically at the other end of the spectrum. We’d happily blame ourselves for making the Cats lose by wearing the wrong shirt because it makes us feel like we have an ounce of control over whether they win or lose.

So I came upon this, and apparently some people have lots of time and money to burn. But the part I found fascinating was the part regarding the neighbors. A house in Rachel, NV with all kinds of visitors from out-of-state. So they tail a van one day, and it ends up going through a gate into the restricted area around Area 51. It could be all kinds of things, base workers or whatever. But I just thought it was weird that they'd live out in a god forsaken place like Rachel, when the DOD will fly them in from LAV on Janet flights every day.

Plus, if you really think about it, robot birds don't need to drink water and most of the birds you shoot are going to be near some water or hiding out in a bush. What's a robot bird going to photograph when it's sitting around in a bush, anyway? It all makes so much sense.
Robot birds sit in the tree outside your office. Also, the government isn't the only one who has ROBOT BIRDS. Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

Yes, they are relative. The ancient near East and the area of what is now western india (if you want to include it), aren’t western imo. Obv not far eastern either.
From what I’ve read and listened to early Hebrews/Semitic peoples were far more influenced by cultures and peoples from the (near) east than from their west.
There wasn’t really much of a “west” in the Iron Age anyway tho I don’t think.

A ship hit a bridge, I thought I already covered this.
It would be prudent to ensure there were no saboteurs on the crew. The best part of this, is the usual mansplainers talking about how if someone wanted to attack our infrastructure they would do it at a large scale. Apparently they've never heard of the concept of death by 1000 cuts. A constant series of economic infrastructure upheaval that is destabilizing, drives up costs etc. etc.
As an aside, I was talking to my scientific bro who has spent years doing ag reserach and he was telling me about the targeting of our ag IP by foreign agents over the last decade or more, specifically the Chinese. I am not saying the Chinese or anyone caused the bridge situation. Just best to be sure there was nothing nefarious.
