Becoming an Uncle

I think that is going to happen today. On her husband's birthday no less. Crazy town. In this thread we can share accounts of becoming and uncle. The joys.

My uncle story is different.  I was about 19 or 20, it was Christmas eve night, I had just pulled into dad's and was getting out of my Cutlas Calais (loved that car) and my bro is getting something out of his car.  I turn around and he's standing there holding a 3yr old boy.  My bro can see I'm confused so he says "Bloodfart this is my son." I was like  :Wha:

hi there SDK.  I became an uncle back in June.  my niece was born on my grandfather's 100th birthday and they got to meet each other which was super neat.  being an uncle is great as you get all the benefits of a small child with none of the responsibilities.  hold adorable baby for a while, make funny noises at the baby, etc., then when baby starts crying just laugh and hand off to the parents to fix the problem while you get on sports message boards on your phone.

His brother boned some lady, she got pregs, he denied it because she wasn't pretty, he finally had to take a pat test and got confirmed.

yeah. being an uncle is fun.  i'm an uncle of 3, about to be 4 come january.

it's gonna be really fun when they're old enough to want someone to get them booze in high school.  ol uncle Dlew12 will really be in high demand then.

Being an uncle is pretty fun.  None of the bother of raising the kid but get to experience the fun stuff.  Also will confirm your "i don't want kids" mantra real quick...at least mine.

I'm an uncle. The little guys love me. My wife is always buying them crap, so it's more expensive than I'd like.

Guys. This whole giving birth to new life is mind blowing for me. Like I can't explain it. I was holding her and was like holy eff this is a person. 9 months ago this was just a couple cells. So wild. So cool.

I'm a double uncle. It's pretty cool. 2 year old recognized me and smiled and said "Uncle 8 8” when I was Skyping with my brother on Christmas... Made my day

Wife has 5 siblings which equated to 19 nieces and nephews.  I was relegated to sitting at the kids table my first 15 years of marriage which was actually more fun then sitting with the adults.  Nephews always fought over whose team "Unca Tom" would be on for post meal football and basketball games.  Nieces used me as protection whenever the nephews got too rowdy which was often.  I was more inclined to play legos with the kids than talk with the inlaws.

Uncling is pretty much grandparenting lite.  See them on holidays, attend a few school programs or athletic events along the way.  They will appreciate you for taking an interest in them.

Then you have your own kids and the real work begins.
