How does this renovation outcome vary so much from what was announced just a couple of months ago?
1.  No renovation at all on the east side of the stadium.
2.  Stalled retail development.
3.  Seating capacity reduced by 5,000 seats more than announced.

Is there like a state statute that mandates KU conduct all its financial affairs as sketchy AF?

Going to the well once more on recruiting incredibly good looking players

Yeah, K-State does recruit some fine-looking young men.  While KU recruits good athletes, they always look like they're a chromosome away from being developmentally disabled.

Plot twist: UK hires Tang  :horrorsurprise:

Also, Waco sucks balls.
drew desperately wanted the kentucky job but has a no indemnification clause in his contract with baylor athletics.  if he left, he would need to make baylor whole.  he couldn’t convince tang to leave k-state to replace him at baylor. therefore, he was on the hook for almost $30M to baylor.  this is the backstory about his decision to stay in Waco that no one in the MSM is going to tell you.

Thank you for having the courage to say this.
it’s not a problem.  explaining complex legal issues to the layman is sort of a hobby of mine.

i hope you learned something!

One would have to read Drew's contract, but indemnification clauses can be circumvented relatively easily.  On the other hand, if Baylor has good legal counsel, they could adopt measures to counter most common circumvention schemes.

IDK, Baylor, as a religious school, has some recruiting advantages over public schools.  I've heard that Baylor will fund churches or church wings named after the mother of a given recruit.

7
Seems weird to build up a program to be a perennial top 20 team, win a Natty, and bail for another program.  How often does that happen?  I don't think very often which is why I don't see Drew leaving Baylor.  Seems like he has a good thing going and he can be there as long as he wants with limited pressure from fans/AD/UP.
This is true but Baylor is arguably the "lowest profile" school to win a championship in recent memory. Villanova is probably the closest comparison?

Not sure school's profile matters anymore if you have NIL support + fan/AD/UP support.  I think this is why we have seen some hall of fame coaches retire in the last couple years.  I don't think Kentucky/KU/UCLA/Duke/Michigan State/North Carolina names will continue to hold the weight they used to.  The "name" is no longer needed to bring in great players and contend for titles.  The last two years represent the new NIL landscape, and I don't think many of us would have predicted not a single Blue Blood (UCONN is now BB though) making the FF.

2024 FF Teams:
Bama, Purdue, NC State, and UCONN

2023 FF Teams:
SDST, Miami, FIU, and UCONN

I think long term, NIL support will be more closely related to profile. Higher profile/blue bloods will win in the NIL/Portal era.
:nono:
NIL money will be king, program pedigree will be down the list of priorities for top recruits.  What WILL be a deciding factor is the number of players the program lands in the NBA.  McDonalds All-Americans don't go to Lawrentucky because of it's atmosphere or tradition, they go to KU because KU has had a lot of players make it to the NBA.  If the number of players KU puts in the NBA declines, so will recruiting.

Oh my nsfw

Nah, just sweaty and ragey with a throwback shirt that looks like the first polyester shirts popular in the late 60's.

An investigator uncovers the dirt behind NIL, and the vulnerability it imposes on players.  His description matches what we've known about KU for decades.

Would be happy if we could hang onto Rich, Ames, Jones, and Finister.  Yeah, they dribbled into multiple defenders and turned over the ball, but you'd think Tang will really work on our turnover problem, and we'll see more of their potential.

Will Doug Compton up his game?  Will it matter?

Saw a bunch of flood aggie fans outside T-Mobile Arena yesterday.  They were all wearing shorts and sporting fluorescent white legs.  I think they were checking out K-State to see if they were going to drive back to Iowa in a good mood or a bad mood.

remember when texas had a big lead and thought they were going to win and advance even though they aren't really even in the big 12 and shouldn't be allowed to participate at all?

We sat in the middle of a bunch of Texas fans, who were loud and proud.  I was too polite to laugh out loud when the game was over.

Did they start chanting SEC, SEC, SEC?    Probably just low self esteem a Mizzou thing.

I don't think Texas joining the SEC is a self-esteem thing like it was with Moo.  Texas will try to act like they own the conference within 18 months of joining.   Moo just loves being in the conference, Texas will try to control it.

Went and watched all 4 games yesterday at the T-Mobile center.  What's not getting enough attention is BYU.  They came out and hit like 7 of 8 of their first three pointers, and put UCF down early.  They eventually cooled down, but man that was impressive.  BYU will be a tough out.

Does the Big 12 conference have enough leverage in basketball to throw their weight around in the CFP negotiations.  Big 12 schools refusing to schedule SEC / Big 10 schools in basketball could have an impact.

18
I think this was addressed during one of their zillion renovations, but in the early 2000s, when A&M would do their swaying thing with the fans, the whole damn press box side of the stadium would shift left and right with the movement - you could literally feel the stands moving back and forth (like being at the top of the Arch, but worse). If you don't know it's coming (I didn't) it's incredibly unnerving.

I wonder if they used the same engineering skills that they used for the '99 bonfire.

I feel bad for our Jayhawk brothers in this prospective conference realignment with 48 super teams:

https://www.on3.com/news/how-would-a-college-football-super-league-look/

K-State would be in the SEC Southwest division, our Jayhawk brothers are left out.

The staff shakeup is definitely #2 on the things to watch. #1 is whether Daniels will be healthy for the actual conference portion of the season. He's looked great against inferior teams but despite being there like 3 seasons now he's more of an unknown than Avery is.

Based purely on recruiting rankings, their QB room is pretty bad with the exception of their incoming true freshman. But, even if their next-in-line QB outperforms the rankings, there's nobody near Bean's capabilities to save them if Daniels goes down again.

This may not be the place, but that reminds me to ask about the gameworthiness of Barnett, Knuth, and Simoncic if AJ gets hurt?

I'm not sure if I should mention this, but I have it on good authority that 'clams secretly loves Lawrence. After all, it IS the best town in Kansas. Or Kanza, if you will.

I went to play disc golf at Centennial Park - holy cats!  Homeless people everywhere.  So I scooted over to Riverfront Park to play that course, and what did I find?  Even more homeless people than were at Centennial.   I heard the homeless problem was even worse over at Johnny's by the bridge.  I guess if you go for the seedy vibe, Lawrence is your kind of place.

Good for him. Going over .500 at KU is a monumental achievement and not one to be taken lightly.

He's managed that in one of his three seasons.  That's awesome for KU, but he would be on the hot seat at K-State.

I don't know if RaeQuan Battle has a good shooting % on those jump shots from beyond the arc, but he almost led West Virginia to a win against us with those.  I've never seen a player shoot jump shots from beyond the arc very frequently, but Battle did it consistently and with a high % against us.  Plus, he was pulling down rebounds like crazy.  We need a dude like that.

Refs swallowed their whistles for us at the end, felt good.
they really didn’t let wvu get the bullshit calls they were trying to get

Yeah, Kerr Kriisa was so bad at flopping that you either wanted to laugh, or punch him in the face.

Qatz will win 3 of their remaining 4 games, and will have to win at least 1 game in the Big 12 torn-a-ment to get an invite to the NCAA torn-a-ment.  I think their only loss is to KU at AFH.
