I can't think of two better people than Erik Prince and Olly North to lead this endeavor.

Only a matter of time before Trump uses this to punish his American citizen political enemies. He wants to be a dictator so badly.

Previous administration had unprecedented use of private contractors aka mercenaries in military operations (things that libs didn't know and don't care about. . . unless a Republican is president)

Where were you guys?

That's all you ever have.   You're not capable of even understanding the issue or precedence.

Sorry your guy outsourced all the killing TBT.

Dax, this would be authorized domestic surveillance by a private company. Nothing would be able to stop them from turning around and selling their intelligence to foreign states. So, of course, Trump is stupid enough to authorize this.

Private military contractors don't collect intelligence, aren't privy ito intelligence, aren't made aware of military secrets?    It would be nearly impossible for them to function if they weren't given copious amounts of sensitive information, and of course they're out there fighting for a pay . . . our country, so they have first hand information and loads of sensitive information straight from the battlefield, and back at the bases.

Really big difference between soldiers and spies, dax. And lol at you if you think private military contractors get top-brass level intel. My brother (AF major) has worked alongside military contractors in the field and they are kept in a pretty tight box as far as that is concerned.

Many of these guys are hired from companies that are laden with former military intelligence guys.   Out-in-the-field is not the same as being briefed to go fight the bad guys.   Our spy agencies hire contractors, put them in the field and they are in many cases asked to protect operations, like recruiting "freedom fighters" and shipping captured weapons from certain African countries to other hot spots, for example.   The military-intelligence complex is full of contractors privy to all matter of information.  Come on man.

Sure. But none of it is above confidential level classification, and it's pretty worthless to other nations because most of it is transient intel. Unlike domestic intel.

Come on man, intelligence entities outsource all kinds of things on a domestic level.   You act like the foreign entities are dumb, they, just like us can put together the bread crumbs of low level security items into a whole.

Dax, no one is shocked that you're OK with your guy trump assembling a secret police system that answers only to him. We can call it something snappy like the "protection squad" or something

dax, spies hired to spy on american citizens that don't like your politics are not comparable even in crazyland to private army men. that whatabout'ism is looked down upon by even the most extreme whatabout'ist enthusiasts.

SD, outsourcing of spying has been going on for years.   The black budget and all that goes with it is called the black budget because nobody really knows what's in it and what they're up to.

You should have been melting down years ago.   So I'll call out the partisanship.  Have a great day, tho.

Oh, and please, you can make a clear case that most of this board's hero was clearly spying on people for political purposes.   When you sign executive orders to allow "intelligence" to get into the hands of people who are more politicians than national security people, you're basically green lighting political spying and just using the in-house gang to do it.

BFFs: whataboutism and false equivalency

You don't get to either say nothing or fully support the very same thing that you're having a meltdown over because you're a hyperpartisan.  I mean you can, but don't start tossing out strawmen like whataboutism and false equivalency when you're called out on it.

An executive order to put intelligence in the hands of people who have no business being engaged in order to embolden domestic political spying stands on its own.
