DirecTV Now
« on: November 30, 2016, 01:03:08 PM »
To those of you who are into cord cutting this seems like an awesome deal:

http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/30/13788934/directv-now-att-internet-tv-service-questions-pricing-channels

100 channels for $35 no cable box needed. The only thing missing that I can tell is CBS and usable on a Roku, but it seems like those are on the 2017 roadmap.

unless you live in a market where the network is owned locally, you will need an OTA to get them

What? Roku is p great. Only platform that doesn't have a vested interest in pushing their media products down your throat.

I just found out that if you have a Samsung smart tv, you don't need a DirecTV receiver to watch TV.   Man... that would have been good to have known a few months ago when I bought my 4K tv.  But still good news for my other 3 Samsung TVs.

I stream cable to all my TVs though not technically a cord cutter.  I have the fastest internet offered but a shitty wireless router caused me problems initially.

How much do you spend on that internet? Out here FIOS is quoting my ~$90 for 100 up / 100 down.  We currently pay $108 for that internet and premium TV through them. I expected to have more savings.

OK, I don't have a 4k TV yet, but mostly cause I don't have 4k content. Kinda planned to see what the Super Bowl sales would look like.

the only thing that will eventually stream 4k through the box is Netflix and YouTube (although they don't even do that yet).  google will not be streaming any 4k content, at least in the near term.

what they're working on with this rollout is the wireless connectivity between boxes so we don't have to connect boxes throughout the house with coax or ethernet anymore.

Yes, you need the whole home DVR.  The TV basically connects to it and works like the wireless mini-genie.

I've tried setting mine up and apparently, you have a DirecTV technician come out to set it up.  Also, requires a hardwire internet connection to set up. You can use wifi after it's set up.  I'm going to call DirecTv today or tomorrow.

lib I've heard the SB deals are not the best for TV's  :dunno:  It's consumer electronics so, lots of things drive price breaks.

I don't have a 4K,  but not going to worry about it until more 4K content is available.
