s2 is awesome. loses a little steam with the stupid chicago ep7 detour, but the finale is great

Yup. I don't know the purpose of the detour if not to set up future seasons. I hope it doesn't rely on Eleven searching out her "siblings" every year from here on out but that will play a role.
Little late the Stranger Things 2 (though I had it all watched pretty ASAP) but I can see this theory playing out. I mean, the upside down as of now is "locked" so unless the shadow monster finds a way to break back in, I'm imagining it'll be more of the other kids in Hawkins lab that will help set things loose again.
I didn't mind the backstory episode at all other than it's placement in the story. It was definitely there to delay the ending of the season. It was nice to focus on eleven without the other kids.
Also, it was great to see Will Byers' actor turn out to be a fantastic actor.
