The only fake sick days i've ever taken, was after a Sunday Funday, and that was totally irresponsible. I've used sick days to help my grandma tho.
You're telling me no one here has ever called in on a Monday after attending a Chiefs game?

Pretty bush league to not answer the bell because you can't hold your sauce.
That's fair. I don't want to be judged at work tho. I work with a bunch of lame ppl.

Shower, shave, brush teeth well.  You can smooth over the rough edges.  Taking the Monday off after a home chiefs game is obvious as hell.  OBVIOUS.  Better to shake it off, come in and gut it out.  Deny you even went.  If they say you don't look so good, tell them it is pollen.

Skipping days of work because you drank too much the day before is a bad look

When my office went to biz casual the most boss way to get out in front of a hangover was to suit up.  Throw on that Brooks bros, splash on your good cologne and go with a waspy part in your hair.

No one questioned
 Will try. Just got a slamming new suit last week.  :D

I wear a suit 3 or so times a week anyway so it wasn't an anomaly.  Don't show up in a suit the first time ever when you are hungover.  Especially if you are only one in office wearing one
why would you tell him this? how great would it be if our guy fanning just showed up in a suit and said something like.. dress for the job you want not the one you have, while wincing because his eyes are adjusting to the office lights

I think it depends on what you do, the policy of whoever you work for, etc. Some jobs you can kind of plan around taking a sick day and it won't hurt your productivity or how your boss views you. If so, go ahead.

It seems to me its like most things in life, if there are negative consequences for taking one, you probably should be very careful. If not, do what you want.

:dunno:

When my assistant takes a day it hurts what I do.  We tell everyone that before they are hired.  She has taken 2 days and her backup is buried so I am just in a holding pattern.
You need to get a new assistant, admin assistants for executives at my work don't even take vacation unless the executive they support goes on vacation, kind of ridiculous, but they are all really dedicated to their jobs

Do you guys get a benefit or something for not using a "sick day"? We don't have "sick days" to take, you just take off whenever for however long you want, for any reason.

the level of concern that some of you guys have about getting sick from a co-worker with a runny nose and low grade fever makes me think that your job is to make out w/ your co-workers for eight hours every day and then go home.

All it takes is touching the same thing someone else touched. The worst are those who go to work and proceed to vomit. That is a killable offense.

first of all, no. second of all, there are sick people everywhere all of the time. using a gas pump at a gas station that you will use an hour later. touching money that you will touch. opening doors that you will open. it's called life, dork. yet you're using it as an excuse to stay and home and eat pizzas all day. ok hemmy. ok.

We have sick days, and a separate category called "sick family", both of which are "unlimited"

Never been sick enough to take one off.  Assistant type lady by me has already taken 2 this year. She never hasn't taken every single vacation and sick day available to her each year. Even stretches beyond that some. People talk about it all the time. Leaves us hanging.

everyone's different, but I mean, she HAS the time...

I've got about a 50hrs rolled over from last year, but with the baby coming in May, I'm minimizing time off as much as possible.

True, she does.  But it certainly doesn't look good and leaves me to do stuff I would normally push her way and makes others take care of the stuff she would normally do. She is in a support position where there is never extra time, just more stuff for the rest of us to do.  Also never plans on moving up so bare minimum kind of keeps things status quo.

We are pretty relaxed when it comes to days off, leaving early etc.  But everything has to get done so if i take a couple days off i usually have to make up for it by coming in early and/or staying late a few days before and/or after.  If i dont do that, chances are i wont move up as quick.

What if you are at a place where your boss knows the world won't stop turning if you miss a couple days and encourages you to take a sick day?

When she is here, she is as good as we have.  She has a lot more skill than admin asst.

If you work at a place that makes you want to use sick days just to escape your workplace, then you should probably find a new job. If you're too drunk/hungover to go to work, either gut it out or stop being so rough ridin' irresponsible. If you're actually sick, then stay home. Chances are that some of the people you work with have weak immune systems and catch stuff from other people easily. Don't be a dick.

Do a lot of you guys work in a phone booth or porno?  What are you doing to pass your germs all over your office?

Working from home has its benefits. One of them being no germs from dummies that think they're too tough for a sick day.
