They could have played him this year on the tag and then gotten a 26 3rd rounder as a compensatory pick. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThey didnt give him away. They got the best return they could for a costly 28 yr old with a knee history playing a volatile position that ages quickly, and saved $20M to apply elsewhere while doing so. And a pick at the top of the 3rd round this year is more valuable than a possible compensatory 3rd rounder next year

If they were only getting offered worse than a 3rd round pick in return, or if sneed couldn't find a team willing to give him the long term deal he wanted, he'd be playing on the tag this year and the chiefs would have made the numbers work.

It's basically illegal to tackle Travis Kelce now in the NFL
This new rule is going to frustrate a lot of players, teams, and fans. Similar to a WR faking pass interference or hold, a ball carrier could also "sell" a questionable hip drop tackle to get a flag thrown.

It’s targeting a specific form of hip drop tackle that is both dangerous and obvious.
