Just wanted to publicize this event that's happening for our guy Brady at the end of April. The link with all the details is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/3154896461448115/?ref=newsfeed (https://www.facebook.com/events/3154896461448115/?ref=newsfeed)
On the one hand, it's a shame that a lot of our big PAK'ing opportunities come at events honoring our deceased friends, on the other, getting together and goofing off and having fun at an event to honor Brady seems pretty appropriate and natural. Anyway, a description (provided by our very own MiegeCat) pulled from the event page is below:
Brady's friends and I got together and wanted to throw a fundraiser for the great things his family is doing for the community in his name. No better way to do that than host a trivia event - Auntie Mae's style - in his honor. Not interested in trivia, but still want to come and have a good time? No worries, this event is open to all who want to contribute. This is a public event, so spread the invite to anyone I may have missed. More details below.
But first, a little bit about Brady's fund. First part of the fund is the annual "Brady Smith Memorial Scholarship" that goes to a high school senior who has competed in wrestling. Second is a grant that can be distributed to nonprofits related to wrestling. This could be equipment for schools, donations to clubs, or training fees for officiating. If you cannot make the event, but would like to contribute to the cause, donations to the fund are accepted here - https://topekacommunityfoundation.org/donate
Event will take place Saturday, April 30th at The Rickhouse, which is an event space inside Burg & Barrel. Schedule below:
12:30 - Event space open
1:00 - Buffet opens: Build-your-own-burger bar + sides (tots, tenders, salad, etc)
2:00 - Trivia Start
5:00ish - Trivia Finish
The space is ours to use the remainder of the evening. People are welcome to hang out in the space as long as they like after trivia ends. We plan to start packing up around 7:00.
Trivia rules
-No more than 6 members per team
-12 teams maximum. First come, First serve
-$40 donation per team member (this covers the food buffet as well; pay your own drink tab)
-Sign up due by April 16th. You can add more players to your team after the deadline, as long as it does not exceed 6.
-Reserve your spot by sending a Venmo to @KentSchmidtberger or a PayPal to [email protected] with your team name and # of members. One payment preferred per team.
-Want to play, but can't make a team? Send me a direct message and I will try to find you a spot.
Not interested in trivia?
-$30 per person donation includes the buffet (pay your own drink tab).
-Show up anytime from 12:30-4:00.
-Send a Venmo to @KentSchmidtberger or a PayPal to [email protected]. Will also accept cash the day of, but please RSVP ahead of time for an accurate food head count.
Donations beyond the above amounts are encouraged if desired. The space, food buffet, taxes, and service tip will cost roughly $20/person. All money raised on top of that will go straight to the fund.
Note that space is limited in the event space but the entire restaurant will be open for overflow. Send in your payment or RSVP by April 16th so an accurate food head count can be given. This can be done by responding to the Facebook event or sending an email to [email protected].
If you have questions, feel free to post them here or send me a direct message. Hope this can be a great event for all.

Free high fives from this guy will also be provided.
(Except for Rick Daris)

Awesome stuff!

Maybe the MODS will sticky it cc ( @steve dave @CHONGS @Kat Kid )

I'm pleased to announce that the best Mod (me, steve dave, #1) has stickied it.

As the inaugural winner of FattyFest, I look forward to taking on all challengers. Also, PurpleBear4 will be wrestling any potential suitors at halftime or 12 beers deep, whichever comes first.
-
I am in, who needs a teammate?
-
I will be there :)
-
I just booked what will be my first flight in 3+ years to this thing.

This free agent will be accepting bids to join a team.

This will be the first thing like this where I'm not working* so I plan to play. I might be on a mod team if it exists, some team of Bear's as it sounds like he'll be picking me up late Friday and immediately driving me to booze, or a wichita pak'rs team if one can be revived.
*working includes getting superpak'd and talking immense crap to other BBBS bowling competition while monitoring every dollar to ensure gE would beat wichita's largest corporations

My trivia skills, which are manifold, will be available to the highest bidder. Not to humblebrag, but I lettered in Scholars' Bowl as a Freshman. Pelt city.

Rumblings of a 2018 Golden State Warriorsesq superteam forming for this gig :surprised:

Wait, this thing is in Topeka? I’m an idiot, there’s a Burg and Barrel in KC which I thought it was at.

Sounds like a great event for a really great guy. I committed to a pak on the same weekend out in Colorado a few months back so can’t make it. Can’t wait to hear the stories and see the pictures though.

Unfortunately, I’m out on this one. Just found out this weekend that my dad booked me a surprise fishing trip for “Brady’s” weekend after finding out mom is officially in remission via yesterday. He needs this trip. Let us know how we can donate from afar.

Yeah, this is a fine assumption. Burg & Barrel is a restaurant and this is during the day. Shouldn't be an issue.

Really looking forward to seeing everyone
-
They’re trying to get a headcount finalized today. Even if you’re not certain you can be there for any or all of it, just book a spot for at least attending and get them your donation today, and you can sort out also playing trivia soon thereafter.
-
I’ll be there. I think I’m on Stevie’s team.
-
We over-recruited and will now have two teams to spread all these people across: me, bear, winters, nicname, paul nyakatura, XT, RDrils, casey, prumfsy, Dr. Jack. Maybe daiji also, so have 1-2 spots still.
Last I asked there was also still room for at least one more whole team, and I'm sure there'll be people who didn't commit to teams and new registrants filling out teams.
And you can also just go for $30 and be there pak'n without having to play trivia.
:katpak: :combofan:

I signed up our team and apparently they lost the reservation, go cats
-
I just sent $40 to Kent and am looking forward to joining a random team that will probably win.

He asked me a couple times today if I knew [your government name] and if you were to be on one of our teams, and I told him I didn't know who you were and whatever. Just now pieced it together.
Macho Borrachos: Bear, winters, nicname, paul nyakatura, me.
UltEMAW Warriors: XT, RDrils, Casey, Prumfsy, Dr. Jack, Daiji.
You can get on w/us or let Kent put you with whoever is shorter on people.

Indeed. The first time I met Brady was at Aggie Station when Stevesie was slinging drinks there. He was serving us tall caucasians late into the evening. I barely made the conference I was in town for the next morning. It was a fun night and the start of a great friendship with one cool dude.

Yeah, no thanks. Leave the cheating to the Water Salvation Army team or whatever pervert name they call themselves.

COVID-free on my home test, pretty much packed, on track to have enough work done, and now my flight's delayed and set to land at like 1:30am, probably because of you people's spring weather.

My flight just landed, and the entire airport/airplane experience was a model of efficiency.

Shoutout to all who put it on- I’ll post more later- but it was a good time

This was all MiegeCat. Bear and I have wanted to do something like this for a while, but neither of us are organized enough to get it done. HUGE shoutout to our guy Kent. He’s pretty pak’d right now but it sounds like we raised a lot of money. Brady was the man, the absolute best of us.
-
For a minute there I thought Miege Cat was going to get choked out over a Power Rangers dispute.

He did a great job overall but totally butchered that question. I'm surprised winters didn't use his finishing wrestling move on him.
Good seeing a bunch of you gE bros

It was a great time. Can’t wait to see everyone again at the next one.

i can’t say for sure because i was in bed but there’s rumors floating around about a pretty large pelt melt that occurred down at the falloon last night
saturday was great to see everyone together rallying around an awesome cause and remembering a great man.
very well done by everyone involved

That was fun. A fitting tribute to a man we can all look toward for how to be in life.

Five boulevard beers that are sold all year round in bottles AND cans. Answer? I forgot. :dunno:
-
what was the final question and answer
Something to the effect of "What are the 5 Boulevard beers that have always been available in bottles and cans"
1. Wheat
2. Pale ale
3. tank 7
4. kc pils
5. THE CALLING
Bear threw out the calling as the final beer but we made the fatal error of fighting mother nature and put down single wide instead of THE CALLING. :Crybaby:

From Miegecat - well done everyone:
One last check in to give everyone an update on the donation now that we are back from Mexico and able to sort through it all. Here are the final numbers
$1,720 raised from the event itself
$338 in excess cash donations at the event
$830 donated via Venmo from people that could not make it
TOTAL of $2,888 raised! This is not even including what we raised on the Topeka Community Foundation website directly.
Thank you all so much for attending and making the event so successful. And an extra special thank you to Gayle and Brian for putting such great prizes together.
What a tremendous way to honor Brady and all of the wonderful relationships he built with all of us. Hope to see you all again down the road sometime.

Just stumbled upon this thread and couldn't resist joining in. That Metalhead Fund Trivia Event sounds like an absolute blast! Nothing like some brain-teasing questions to get the gears turning, right? And oh my, the image of a heated Power Rangers debate almost turning into a WWE match cracked me up! It's amazing how passionate we can get about the things we love. Speaking of passions, I've heard Downtown LA Live Event Production Services are the real deal, especially the Sound Experts of Downtown LA (https://lalightingandsound.com/downtown-la-event-production-services/) – they've got the auditory magic to make any event unforgettable! Have any of you experienced their expertise firsthand?

Absolutely agree! The Metalhead Fund Trivia Event sounds like a fantastic way to challenge our knowledge and have a great time. Passionate debates, whether about Power Rangers or anything else, can indeed lead to some hilarious and unexpected moments. It's wonderful how our passions can bring us together in such engaging ways.
