The attacks on her religious beliefs aren't really called for, people can change.   However what is called for is her eventual dismissal if she fails to live up to her duties as a public servant.

If you don't want to deal with the public, and abide by the laws of the land then don't get into public service.

If your religious beliefs are stupid then they are absolutely fair game to be "attacked", especially when using them in the manner she is

I think people are more attacking her obvious hypocrisy

I'm sad that a clerical job with an extremely black and white set of duties is a partisan elected position.

So if the person is Christian it's totally commendable* for her to "stand up for her religious rights"? But if they are Muslim, they are fundamentalist crazies trying to implement Sharia Law, right?

*Obviously not talking about people ITT, but the people defending her

Well . . . it seems that vast majority of modern Western Christianity is pretty tolerant as opposed to Sharia Law, so, there's that.   Otherwise, fantastic post and great analogy.

I don't see how rogue Christians trying to implement their religious "laws" is any different than rogue Muslims that want to implement their Sharia law. I mean, Christians historically have killed this crap out of a lot of people. So have Muslims that practice Sharia.

I mean all Sharia Law ='s Death to Gay People

Some of Modern Western Christianity ='s  We don't believe Gay people should be allowed legally marry.

Is this even a things that are the same yet different?   That's a pretty wide gap.

It's still implementing "religious laws" to govern people of a defined area, 'grats to Christians that don't want to kill gay people (just abortion doctors), but in a country that separates Church and State, yeah it is the same. No religious laws.

So if she is in jail, the county's judge executive can issue marriage licenses. So they'll just have to keep her in jail for the rest of her term .

Sure:

Gay Marriage:
Some Modern Christians-Disagree
Sharia Law-Death

Sex outside of marriage:
Most Modern Christians-Not a good idea
Sharia Law-Death, a good beaten, but probably death, maybe just loss of body parts, but probably death

Gay People:
Some Modern Christians-Change your ways
Sharia Law-Death

Modest Clothing:
Some Christians-A good idea
Sharia Law-If women aren't covered from head to toe, a good beaten, or maybe death, but probably death after a good beaten, or stoning

Yeah, I can certainly see the similarities.

Luckily we live in a country where religion is usually held separate from the law
