-
Amazing!!

K-State is dropping equestrian because the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics has recommended dropping equestrian as a D-I sport in 2015-16
-
Eff yeah!
-
How creepy is gpc about this?
-
@BlairKerkhoff 3m
Re: K-State dropping equestrian/adding soccer. NCAA will stop counting equestrian as an official sport. K-State needed to add sport.

it was the best option really, do you:
A. put a picture of equestrian girls when we're axing their sport
B. put up a stock photo of some random soccer chicks
C. photo of currie bossing it up in the west stadium center
easy choice, although the other two provide some great oppys for photo shop wizards
-
serious question:
is currie using this as another oppy to raise funds to build suite stuff for us, just because he's that good?
-
Im insanely jealous of future students. Just imagine grabbing your Catz scarf on a crisp fall day. Talk a short walk with your best buds over to picturesque Memorial Stadium, then cheering and chanting your faces off

Something where I can utilize my bottomless well of Olympic sports knowledge and long time supporter of all womens athletics. I've had a hole in my heart for two decades that Currie just filled. I can't wait for a wildcat weekend of a friday basketball doubleheader, Saturday noon volleyball, Saturday night football, and Sunday afternoon futbol.
I'll throw my hat in the ring for VP of Fan Development.

Would the official tailgate spot be the St Isidores parking lot or the roof of the parking garage?
Just imagine throwing back some smooth natural lights on the roof of the garage while chanting, playing music and kicking a ball around. The Moro St Marauders are going to have so much fun.

STARTS NOW! (fall 2016)

Oh awesome. Ok give me like, the basic stuff I need to know about NCAA Women's Soccer.
Is there a tourney?
About how many games in a season?
Big XII championship game?
90 minute games I assume, with draws and then extra periods in the tourney or playoffs or whatever?
Who is the dominant team in the Big XII? In the country?
Anything else I should know?
-
north carolina is, obviously, the de facto blue blood.
yeah, has a full ncaa tourney at the end of the season. big12 has its own tornament as well
90 minute halves, though it's a little different from what you're used to as a world cup aficionado as there's not the same 3-sub/game rule
b12's best seems to fluctuate a lot (translation: it's ours for the taking)
-
Thanks 'bias. Go Cats. Hope we cut down the nets in 2016. Is that a thing? It should be.
-
just looked, didn't remember nebraska being as good as they were (later losers). do remember a&m being good (later losers).
of course iowa state has zero regular season or p66 titles

never watched equestrian on cable. women's soccer? you betcha

This is exciting!!! But won't we be completely awful to start off? That won't be fun to watch to start off. What coaches do we get?
I love John Currie, i think he is the best AD we've ever had.

When do the boys get a D1 team?
Gonna win 'em all!

who are the 'cruits we go after first? any local high school power houses where we need to start establishing pipe lines?

maybe we can reach a compromise. Dual purpose those rough riders as standing room only sections?

They are already in. In fact this summer, a wall broke or something and tons of dirt rolled down to the bottom of the stadium on the east side

KSUPKS is already bragging about the living roof labs.

KSUPKS is already bragging about the living roof labs.
I just googled some pictures and it looks like there are still a fair amount of seats that they left. Just one side seems to have around 1000+ seats by my guestimation. I haven't found any pictures of the other side so I don't know if they kept seats over there as well. I can't imagine we would need more seating than that.
-
is there a rivals site for woman's soccer?
our strategy should be to go see who unc is recruiting and then steal their recruits
any chance suzy fritz gets the head coaching gig? having the same coach do vball and soccer would save us some katkoin

So, what happens to the equestrian girls' scholarships? Will they still be honored? If not, wouldn't the fairest thing be to convert the equestrian team into our soccer team for a couple of years until the current scholarships expire?

yes, they'll be honored, as will the coach's contract
-
the last thing we need is jay billas on our ass again, what a pain in the neck that guy is, huh guys?
why aren't we going to honor the damn contracts, it makes no sense, wtf. to put the players and the coaches out on the street makes us kats look bad. don't block the transfers either or billas will kill us on twitter. oh man this is going to suck.

Gonna win 'em all!
Obviously the official goEMAW play by play announcer. Although it may be hard to translate every player's name into a dobber (ex. DobberErica, DobberSarah, etc?)

soccer vs softball
Granted we already have a soccer field and the location is excellent but where will the recruits come from? The state of Kansas is weak on girls soccer. Girls softball is wildly popular. Most of the players will probably be foreigners just like tennis. How many people would rather watch a bunch of foreigners (no disrespect intended) than girls from all over Kansas playing softball?
I know its a done deal but to me it just takes the local flavor out of the women's sports.

The State of Kansas is weak on girls soccer? Where the eff does this guy live? You can't swing a dead cat in the most populated parts of this state without hitting some chick in a soccer uniform.

So thankful that they chose soccer over softball. Softball got booted out of the Olympics for sucking so hard. Plus, those bats are very expensive. Unless we did BYOB kinda like Equestrian did BYOH. I suppose we would have.

"Plans for soccer practice and competition facilities are being studied as the department is initiating discussions with the Student Governing Association about possible on-campus options including the potential of utilizing historic Memorial Stadium for home matches or constructing a facility in an existing location."
I'm assuming they'll just use Memorial. If we ever added men's soccer, too, it would be cool to build a small on-campus stadium, tho.

If you've never seen that espn special on one of the girls who won the world cup for usa, you should look into it. She committed to florida who was starting their program from scratch over north carolina and won it by her senior year. It will probably happen to us too.

I'm excited for this. Since it's a fall sport I hope they play home games on Fridays or Sundays and get weekend combo'd with home football games ala basketball in November. Just think about that second weekend in November: Fri: Women's soccer >>> Sat: KSU fball >>> Sun: KSU bball

4 things I want for soccer at K-State:
1. No singing I believe that we will win. Let Cat fans make up their own unique songs. I think we should create our own identity.
2. No goals like this one: it's so small timey
(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.keepergoals.com%2Fblog%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2013%2F05%2Fm88W-721-1.jpg&hash=cdc2a14fa16b170feb5b64e98618821fe20be87e)

4. And if we don't use the old stadium, then we should have a stand at our stadium that spells either KSU or Kansas State in the seats.
Like this but with purple seats and white lettering. Obviously our stand wouldn't be near that big. I'm holding out hope for a 5000 seat stadium. Google some league 2 sides in England for some comparos.

I'm getting a good laugh around the office at the "Memorial Stadium is ready to go" people in the K-State Community.
If your idea of "ready to go" is a field that may or may not meet actual college soccer size regulations, with portable goals and enough lines to confuse even the most effective cryptographer with no permanent dressing rooms, concessions or public restrooms and currently under or soon to be under construction with facilities aimed at an entirely academic/administration/arts function. Than yes, Memorial Stadium is "ready to go".

Oh, don't fear, tremendous optimism around here about the prospects of a wonderful soccer stadium out at the sports complex on the road to having one of the best on campus sport complexes in the country. Still hearty laughs at geeks who want old Memorial and all the issues that will come with it instead of access to their own stadium, indoor practice facilities and superior sports medicine and training.

I looked up the stadiums for other big 12 schools. They are all very small-timey.
I don't think it would be that expensive to build the nicest women's soccer complex in the big 12.
It's exciting building this from scratch. We have the opportunity to build nicer facilities than everyone else.
I just hope we don't throw up some metal bleachers and call it good.

December 17-18, 2014 Consent Agenda | Wednesday
2. Amend the FY 2015 Capital Improvement Plan and Approve Program Statement for
Redesign of the Athletic Practice Fields – KSU
K-State Athletics recently announced that an intercollegiate women’s soccer program will be added in keeping
with K-State's commitment to improve opportunities for female student-athletes, enabling the athletics program
to maintain its sponsorship of 16 varsity sports as required by the NCAA. K-State Athletics proposes the redesign
of the two existing grass football practice fields into three fields to accommodate usage for both the football and
soccer programs. The basic field footprint covers approximately 240,000 square feet. The new design will include
a field with artificial turf and two fields with a natural grass surface. The total project cost is estimated at $3.4
million funded from private gifts and athletic funds.
This all sounds stupid and gross. The fieldturf better not be for the football team. I don't want, in any way, for my university to be involved with playing real soccer on fieldturf. I picture all three fields being in a line but there being a tiny soccer scoreboard and portable metal bleachers for the seating, like the same metal bleachers that are leaving BSFS. God I hope I'm wrong but this sounds horrific.

-
MIR you might as well start burning it down because that is exactly what we are going to get. A field turf field and some bleachers.
also what I expect
-
It sucks. A tiny little 3,000 seat natural grass stadium could be made pretty elite for a few briefcases full of cash but it's going to resemble my high school's soccer setup.
-
The very first question one has to ask is what kind of turf were those people in those pictures playing on.
American Football players typically have noting covering their arms, with exceptions and they slide across the artificial grass/turf fields all the time and rarely do I ever see any abrasions such as that. I suspect those girls/guys were probably playing on the few remaining old style turf fields which are typically only used by field hockey teams or cheap knock off artificial grass fields, not made by the primary companies. Seriously do you think NFL'ers would constantly rate some FieldTurf/AstroTurf gameday grass fields above some natural turf fields if they left abrasions like that on their arms and elsewhere?
Oh, and even real grass can leave abrasions on people.
Plus, why the eff do some people think that the women's soccer program at K-State should fly out of the gates with some awesome stadium, unless somebody steps up to pay for it?
-
Dax is deep into the pockets of big field turf, he's about as impartial as ipa4me is about thermostats
-
I remember Chris Harper saying he wore sleeves because the fake grass cuts his arms
-
lib is deep in the pockets of stupidity.
-
Tapout. . . Noted
-
why do something half-ass? you can't expect to win if you roll out the wal-mart of soccer fields.
and if you do happen to stumble onto success, you'll end up growing and dumping the initial investment (vanier complex currently getting torn down)
show the conference and your team that you're committed to the program, it will pay off with success on the field.
the cost of a natural grass field can't cost that much more incrementally than an artificial turf field.
is there no student input solicited? i would hope that they have a voice in these decisions since it is, you know, theirs.
-
SGA-----The voice of the people!
LOL!
Am I not reading something correctly? Are they seriously rolling out artificial for this thing and that is confirmed?
-
the dax post says that kstate is wanting to build two natural grass fields and one turf field. three total. my guess would be that soccer will be on one of the grass ones. now what about locker rooms? fan amenities like bathrooms? use the same stuff the baseballers use?

Yeah, I didn't think so, me neither
Hey, knees ARE weird!

i think dax has overinflated expectations that we have overinflated expectations
It's cute
I find his rantings against arguments that no one makes, hilarious. Now that beems doesn't post he does it a lot.

But LOL at you dumbasses who think that a women's soccer program deserves to have a gazzillion dollars spent on it, when the vast majority of college soccer stadiums are metal bleacher stands, or nothing beyond a very average high school stadium.
yea i get your point dax, but it's exciting to think that with a solid effort from the beginning of this program we could be elite at it.
Investing in women's soccer can't cost that much. Let's try for a little more than the bare minimum.
-
Imply/Implying/Implication . . . this is not hard MIR. The bitching has already started, and right out of the gate K-State has said they're going to spend what amounts to over $1 million dollars each for 3 practice fields that K-State women's soccer will use extensively. I can already see where this is going if people are already bitching. (when no announcements of any kind have been made as to wear actual games will be played).
There are other "olympic" sports at K-State that have had to wait what amounts to decades to have $3 million dollars spent on their facilities.
no, not really. but i'll let you think you're right as to not embarrass you in front of everyone here by delivering yet one more facial

so, i'm just gonna assume one real grass field for football practices during away game weeks w/ grass, a turf field area that can take a lot of foot traffic for both football practices and kick ball practices, and then a grass field for girls soccer games only.
probably a dumbass view of things, but that's how i see it.

1. Who's bitching? We don't know anything yet.
2. What other olympic sports were started at K-State in 2014 and have to have a facility(s) built from scratch? That point is crazy dumb and I'm not sure why you made it.

Then apparently you can't even comprehend your own posts.

Don't try to dumb it down now Title 9 Zealots and Sporting KC Nerds.
Can I have a ven diagram of this? who falls in which category?

Turf fields for soccer players are inhumane. Could you imagine playing on turf, outdoors, in Kansas in August? Should I repost the pics?

I am asking an empirical question. Maybe I should've included a "NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION" option?
-
Kids in Helicopter Parentland aka Johnson County play on Field Turf fields as far as the eye can see all summer long. If it were really that big an issue don't you think they'd bitch a lot and demand every field in that massive soccer complex be replaced with grass?
Maybe they are complaining, but I haven't heard anything, and I've got lots of little buddies with kids playing soccer on those fields.
Dax, think about the freequency and the ferocity in which a college soccer player goes to the turf as opposed to youth soccer players, it's not even close. When I was a kid I played football on pavement, does this mean its a good idea for college athletes? You saw those pictures I posted, you really think that happens in AYSO?

What's so funny? The fields have to be certified on a regular basis.

High School age and beyond play on those fields.
There's FIFA approved/recommended Field Turf and AstroTurf fields all over the world.
Yes dax, and it's highly controversial. There are groups suing FIFA for allowing the '15 WWC to be played on turf because men's facilities have lost bids for lesser competitions for simply having turf.
-
That has nothing to do with their certification and research programs and everything to do with hosting politics.
Come on man.
-
For the record there's only one big 12 school playing on turf and to no surprise it's tech.
-
Colgate, St. John's, Florida International all have FIFA certified FieldTurf pitches.
Marshall has a FIFA certified AstroTurf (AstroTurf GT+) pitch
In order to maintain FIFA certification the fields have to be regularly tested by 3rd party testing companies.

LOL @ dax now a soccer expert.
No it isn't politics, its high level federations and high level men's players refusing to play on turf because it is unnecessarily injurious. Let's also not forget that there is now a study that may potentially link cancer to the rubber infill in soccer players.
I know you love to argue, but now you seem to be arguing that turf is just as safe as natural grass, and well that's stupid.

There's a list of state agencies across the United States that have done massive studies on rubber in-fill fields and they've found no evidence of the materials used in the fields being a cause of cancer.
Players refusing to play is also driven by politics and corporations. Athletic fields are a multi-billion dollar annual business world wide.

You can't just install an Artificial Grass field and call it FIFA certified. Why is this so hard for you to understand?
Henry, is one guy, who lives in non reality when it comes to well maintained, modern artificial grass fields.

Because you know that grass fields, unless they are in pristine condition at all times, can tear up skin just as easily.

When they're conducted by state agencies who have absolutely no skin in the game (did I just say that), particularly in states like California, I tend lean towards them, rather than the anecdotal coincidental evidence.
Funny, I haven't seen many well maintained grass surfaces that didn't require a lot of chemicals. Should we go down the list of typically used chemicals on grass athletic fields?

Hmmmm....I don't recall saying they do. I was just curious as to why you decide to trust these studies as opposed to other studies conducted by state agencies. Doubly so, because you don't really know any of the science involved to the appropriate degree to make decisions about the validity of the studies yourself. (Hell neither does MIR to be fair). It's probably because they support what you want to believe is true, so you are less skeptical towards them. That's natural, most people do that.

Where are these studies from state agencies that say that rubber infill athletic playing surfaces cause cancer, or higher rates of cancer?

I am not making a claim one way or the other. But, as the resident expert on these issues, I expect you should have a number of studies you can point us to. It would also be nice if you could summarize in your own words what scientific information you found most compelling (or perhaps weakest) about each study.

First off, it's just typical angered up passive aggressive Chingon at work, playing the "whatever Dax says, I'll say the opposite game".
http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/publications/Documents/Tires/2010009.pdf
My biggest takeaways from that study and similar studies is that while surface temps on artificial grass in-fill fields are higher, just a few feet above the surface there's very little difference in air temps between modern artificial grass and natural grass fields. The study did say that rate of abrasion for college athletes was 2x to 3x higher on artificial surfaces. However based on FIFA database research there are only 2 FIFA certified artificial grass pitches in California and it isn't known if they were part of the study. Also appears to be lower levels of infection causing bacteria in artificial grass fields in this study as compared to studied natural turf surfaces.
If history is our guide, than the chances of K-State maintaining a pristine natural grass field throughout the course of an entire season with practice and games is about 50%. I'll push that to 75% since we are in an era where K-State has more money than it had back when it had natural grass playing surfaces. When K-State had grass in the football stadium it was only in decent condition by season end, at best. When K-State had grass in the baseball stadium, teams used to complain about the infield all the time.
Plus, I'm not saying that K-State should roll out any old artificial grass surface.

Wow swayed by one study. One study from 2010 which was performed under a contract from the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle). A study that says using recycled tires is A-OK. I wonder what the consequences would be if the "scientists" had come to a different conclusion? Just Asking Questions guys.

I would be grateful for your thoughts on dependence on VOC and air temperature dax. I suspect most would believe (perhaps naively so) that the concentration of VOCs emitted into the air would increase with surface (or near surface) temperature. Using your expertise, can you explain why this would be case? I think most interesting would be your counter as to why this might not be the case (as found by this study). Why did they find that the concentrations did not depend (heavily) on temperature? What physical/chemical phenomenon is occurring here that runs counter to what most people would expect?

Let's put in an '80's rubber gym floor at the Bram. Might be the only thing that would allow "The Octagon if Doom" to live on.

I knew it wouldn't be long before you pulled the smartest guy in the room card, Chin.
Now, tell me, what does any of what you said have anything to do with why K-State women's soccer should or shouldn't play on an artificial grass surface?
If you're predisposed to natural grass and since you are the smartest guy in the room could you please list the types of chemicals that are often needed to maintain a natural turf athletic field in Central Kansas. Please note that would be the necessary chemicals to maintain a natural turf athletic field in Central Kansas at level that would afford above average, if not superior playing conditions in all climatic circumstances one can typically find in Central Kansas from August until the late Fall (let's pretend our Lady Soccer players are eventually going to be really good). I can only guess what those chemicals might be, but surely you know.
Thanks

Can you tell me how many high level fifa competitions have been played on these fifa fields?

I'm saying that if K-State women's soccer is given a FIFA tested and certified artificial playing surface, that it will be perfectly fine.

I was also curious as to why you gulped down these studies with none of the skepticism in gov't funded studies I have come to expect from dax. (It's because they support your initial cause/belief, and that's OK. Everyone does this to some extent).

I didn't imply anything, I straight out said that, and I said it more than once. I've said it in other soccer conversations on this board, which is one of the reasons your FIFA lecture to me is hilarious. The safety issues I brought up don't come into play with that farcical FIFA certification.
I'll ask one more time, how many FIFA major competitions have been played on these FIFA certified surfaces? I'll answer for you, the answer is one. It was something like a U17 tournament played in South America over 5 years ago. The WWC in 2015 are playing on artificial surfaces and none of them have received the FIFA certification.

Also dax, if they have a practice field, the wear and tear on the fields will be far less. The bigger concern is the amount of water that will be needed in late July-early September to maintain them. As you rightly pointed out earlier poorly maintained grass can be just a dangerous as turf. I have a lifetime scar on my leg from playing one game on a baked field and I was the keeper, my teammates looked like they were attacked by cheese graters.

Almost half of Americans will get cancer. Must be a lot of moonlighting artificial-surface soccer players.
There is a reason why only one conference school plays on a rug. There are schools that have artificial surfaces for football but not for soccer, maybe you should ask yourself why.
Maybe they don't want to have a Persian rug for a pud sport?
http://cafnr.missouri.edu/research/turfgrass-costs.php
The old, I'm going to come into a soccer thread to tell people that soccer sucks, fantastic.
Read the rough ridin' link so we can have a conversation on why K-State chose artificial turf. The VOCs from tirefill is going to kill our soccer players in a soccer thread was bad enough.

Hmm, West Texas climate maybe?
Have you even been on a high end FieldTurf or AstroTurf field?
UTEP, UNM, NMSU, U of A, ASU, USC, and UCLA all play on grass.
Also I've played on fieldturf, I'm not sure how relevant that is to this conversation though.

I read the link dipshit, K-State hasn't chosen anything yet. No one said anything about anyone dying. Read better.

If the droughts in those areas persist they may have to move to artificial grass.
I was just curious, because you act like these fields are like the old AstroTurf fields.
Marshall is a FIFA 1 Star Certified Pitch, the highest is 2 stars. A German company produces a turf that often gets 2 Star FIFA ratings, of course it's not just he surface itself that gets the rating, it's the entire installation.
Lessor version of what Texas Tech has from AstroTurf received a 1 Star FIFA certification in Leesburg, VA.

I'm not acting like anything. Maybe you're not reading but I have specifically talked about the temperature of the artificial surfaces (they have been recorded at 130 degrees +), the increased occurrences of serious skin abrasions, and the POSSIBILITY of carcinogens in the surface. All of these things are issues with any fieldturf surface, fifa certified or not
-
That's surface temps, the air temps just above the surface are barely higher than natural turf.
One of the factors in FIFA certification is how it scores in Skin abrasions tests (and a myriad of other tests) that are ISO certified.
These are not cheap artificial grass fields that indoor soccer complexes etc. etc. throw down.
-
Make sure K-State checks the "Do you want a top layer of a lighter-colored material fill?" when they place their order. #notthatbigofadeal
-
Since this has gotten a little silly.
My preference as a K-State observer would be that K-State needs to commit to a highly maintained grass game surface that lasts the entire season. If they cannot guarantee that, than they should invest in a top of the line artificial grass surface for soccer.

I hope your ladies have to play on K2. I would snicker a little to myself were that the case.

LOL, I didn't realize soccer players were such babies. I was at a trade show awhile back and FieldTurf had a Demo area, their latest generation stuff was amazing, and even when I first saw it years back it was like walking on grass.

There was no search firm. I'm willing to bet that either one of things happened; Dibbini himself or someone he knows contacted an associate ad for him or he saw the job on the NCAA job board and sent in his resume. The NCAA job board is amazing, I used to use it to hire college athletes to coach various sports.

It's up to each school to post whatever they want, but all schools use it. UT had a couple of jobs on there last I saw. Tech had their D Coordinator job on it. You don't have to be an NCAA member to post a position, it's pretty expensive for non-members; as I said I used to look for coaches on it myself.

To all who will attend K-State soccer matches starting in 2016 — likely at Memorial Stadium in the heart of campus — Dibbini said to expect lots of goals; an up-tempo style modeled after his favorite professional league, Spain’s La Liga; and, most importantly, a roster built around in-state players.
he would always yell at us to "play like barcelona", in an era when you couldn't really watch la liga in the states. everyone just kinda shrugged their shoulders. nobody could even name a single player

I'm anti-sash because they are almost exclusively used for women's uniforms. Also I don't think it work with our color combo.

John Currie says the likely future home of K-State women's soccer will be Memorial Stadium. Should be a fun place for games.
:surprised:
Not sure if luked, but rumblings that this is no longer true. The current plan is to renovate one of the grass practice fields south of Tointon and have games there for at least the first couple of seasons.

There have been two different announcements that have referenced this. The first announcement said they will use three fields by Tointon, I believe it said 2 artificial and 1 natural grass. It was speculated one of these would be the stadium but that wasn't said. About a month later it was officially announced that Memorial Stadium would be the home of the team. I'm not going to dig it out right now but the release made it seem like this may not be the permanent solution.
If I were to read between the lines I think that the area near Tointon will start off as practice fields only while the first season will be played in memorial but the end goal is to end up at the complex. They are playing in memorial until to buy time to raise money and get the facility built.
-
So the football practice fields will be the eventual site for the soccer stadium/practice fields?
Also, that means maybe the future for football practice fields and indoor facility will be across the street from Vanier?
-
I was told that Memorial will not work for games like they had initially hoped... A- source
-

Really? They still have a year and a half.

memorial is perfect, they will make it work

FWIW, the volleyball training facility south of the Bram has been put on hold because of the practice field development.

We have our first keeper! OU transfer Miranda Larkin.
http://www.kstatesports.com/genrel/041515aaa.html (http://www.kstatesports.com/genrel/041515aaa.html)
Larkin joins the program following two seasons at Oklahoma. The goalkeeper from Rockwall, Texas, saw action in four games in the 2013 season, registering a 1-2-0 record with one shut out and a goals against average of 2.58 in just under 140 minutes of action. Larkin redshirted in the 2014 season and will be a redshirt junior when K-State begins play in the 2016 season.
In her high school career at Rockwall High School, Larkin was a four-year letter winner for the Yellow Jackets under head coach Melissa Garcia. She was an ESPN High School Top 150 recruit and was ranked as the No. 20 prospect in the state of Texas by Top Drawer Soccer. In 2012, she earned Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASCO) All-State Second Team honors and was named a TASCO All-Region First Team recipient.
In her club career, Larkin received the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship and was selected to the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) Final Four All-Event Team in 2010.

Maybe off topic, but can anyone fill me in on why they are ruining the bleachers at old stadium? I moved back to MHK for several reasons. One was so my kid can be a townie. Another was so I could run bleachers at old stadium.
To enhance the beauty of the stadium and add sustainability, Memorial Stadium will also receive a living green roof.
Why can't one side be green and the other preserved so generations of K-Staters can enjoy it as intended? :shakesfist:
-
Because it's all part of the master plan of destroying my dream of old Memorial Stadium being converted into a world class outdoor track facility. It started with the Alumni Center and now it's a fait accompli with the new theatre and the welcome center.
-
Are both sides getting green roofs?
-
And can you run on the green roofs or will they call the cops?
-
They are leaving the edges open so people can still run the steps.

Yup. Progress is destroying the spot that we love full well.
-
That's surface temps, the air temps just above the surface are barely higher than natural turf.
One of the factors in FIFA certification is how it scores in Skin abrasions tests (and a myriad of other tests) that are ISO certified.
These are not cheap artificial grass fields that indoor soccer complexes etc. etc. throw down.
LOL

K-State women’s soccer head coach Mike Dibbini announced the addition of transfer student-athlete, as forward Abby Sieperda will join the inaugural Wildcat roster for the 2016 season.
Sieperda joins the Wildcats following two seasons at Arkansas in 2014 and 2015. The forward from Shawnee, Kansas played in 17 matches with one start. In her sophomore season with the Razorbacks, she saw action in nine matches. During her freshman campaign, Sieperda played in eight games and notched her first career goal against Missouri State. She is also a strong student, as she was named to the 2015 SEC First Year Honor Roll.

So I was doing some searching and actually found the blueprint for the new soccer fields on the KMAN website (if they were posted I missed them).
http://1350kman.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Soccer-Renderings.jpg
So, I guess I need to ask, just where do they plan to build permenant dressing rooms, and I'll assume at some point soccer will get it's own mini-Vanier. Where are they going to put that? The only place I see is on the South side and that's where that old house that facilities uses is located.

Yes but that theater thing and welcome center already got put in motion, also too much Rec/general public use happens on that field.

There is lots of space at Brandenburg which is garbage and close. That has to be the next step. For now, they will use the baseball stadium facilities for both concessions and locker rooms.

No way old stadium was going to happen, it was slated for new welcome center and theater.

Then you better look a little closer. The only school in the Big 12 with an on campus stadium that looks even remotely big time is Texas, and that was built to preserve the Texas Relays with a soccer field in the middle. Even the national powers had to produce years upon years of championships to get upgrades.

Dear Tobias,
This spring has been an exciting time for K-State Soccer and we wanted to update you on all the recent developments to the program. Between hiring a new assistant coach, finalizing the home schedule, and signing 28 players to the roster, my staff and I have been working hard to prepare for competition this fall.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The home schedule for the inaugural season has been finalized and we are excited to host four home matches in the month of September. Our first home game will be against Northern Iowa on Friday, September 16, the night before the football home opener against Florida Atlantic. This will be the first Wildcat Weekend of the 2016-17 season! The following week, we host Oral Roberts on Friday, September 23, and South Dakota on Sunday, September 25. Our 2016 home slate will end with UMKC on Friday, September 30.
Those of you with purple or platinum Founders Club memberships already have season tickets for both the 2016 and 2017 seasons. If you have a white membership and want to add season tickets, please call Tony Cappellin in the ticket office at 785.532.7681 to upgrade your membership.
In just over a year since the launch of Founders Club, we have more than 1,000 members representing 28 different states. We appreciate your support and belief in our young program.
We are extremely excited to play our first four home games in front of a large and enthusiastic fan base. Strategically we have scheduled matches on home football weekends to give our fans and players the opportunity to enjoy some quality soccer in our first season of competition.
Details on the full schedule will be released soon.

In January, we announced an addition to our coaching staff, assistant coach Jessica Smith. Smith joins current assistant coach Gabe Romo on the first staff at K-State.
Smith served as an assistant coach on the KU staff from 2011 to 2015. Before she joined the KU coaching staff, Smith coached at various levels in the Kansas City Metro area, including as a varsity assistant coach for both the boys' and girls' teams at Olathe Northwest High School.

As we prepare our team for competition, we are also in the process of preparing our home field for our four home games this fall. The home of K-State Soccer is just south of Tointon Family Stadium off College Avenue. While we have been patiently watching the grass grow, we are excited for the opportunity to play on real grass this fall.

We continued to fill out our inaugural roster and signed 28 new student-athletes this spring. The signees joined the roster of seven to bring the total to 35. The current roster of seven used a redshirt season in 2015 to prepare for the upcoming 2016 season.
The staff and I are very excited about announcing the 2016 recruiting class. This is a group of quality young women, both on and off the field, a group that should integrate nicely with our returning roster of players. We filled several areas offensively, defensively and in the net. It should be a great group to work with, a group that is coachable and committed.
For more information on the current roster, click here (http://"http://fan.kstatesports.com/r/?id=h15f38e7c,33f8459a,33f8495e").

We look forward to training camp in August and the future of our program. Thank you, again, for your support of K-State Soccer and we look forward to seeing you this fall.

Are we really far behind the curve on a women's soccer team? I kind of have dreams of this being our first national championship sport.

I can IRL get the most extreme insider KSU women's soccer scoops if there are any. Just an FYI.

I hadn't read this thread since 2014 but lol at stripes being called hoops.

Yeah, basketball had to wait years to have a practice facility but let's dump millions into women's soccer right out of the gate. :rolleyes

Okay, great facilities for everybody.
Was doing a little Google Earthing last night, and if the dreamed about athletic park that houses all K-State sports ever comes to pass, either parking is going to have to be sacrificed or buildings are going to have to be built with parking underneath, or some stuff is going to have be torn down.

Can you elaborate a little, please? I think I've missed this along the way.
Of course I've heard a few things, but one thing I don't understand, is ever putting anything in the west lot besides maybe green space and trees or just trees. The whole design of the west side was for the drive in from the west/airport, wasn't it? "The corridor to campus" or whatever, and putting crap in the west lot would kind of defeat that purpose I think.

Going by the proximity of those schools I'm guessing Dibbini was given about a $300 travel budget for this season.

tentatively have @Drake penciled in

K-State has 4 permanent sports venues without video/LED displays. Now, it is a little dumb IMO that neither B-ball nor V-ball have VB's considering how "down market" high quality video displays are these days. But with that said the current set-up of the baseball stadium, track, and new soccer fields would make it very easy to have a mobile video board truck. Simply create a spot at all venues to pull fiber and power to, roll up and plug in. For example a spot to roll the truck up to and hoist the board up over the left field wall at TFS could easily be done, for the soccer field you wouldn't even have to leave the drive between the fields and TFS, the outdoor track is easily accessible as well. You could put all kinds of K-StateO signage on the truck, and the software and necessary apps for each sport for statistics, event finishes (track) and such all already in the can and readily available from vendors. K-State doesn't host that many outdoor track meets, but when the conference meet rolls back around, you just bring the truck in. Obviously the truck would be the better choice, not the skanky trailer, you could even put it in the parking lot on football game days to show promotional stuff, other games etc. etc. With HD video panels coming way down market and with the modular nature of the panels you could get years of use out of it.

Pretty great idea dax

It really is. I was obviously kidding about soccer but its kinda embarrassing that the baseball and volleyball facilities don't have video boards.

I'll throw an attaboy at John Currie. For a fledgling soccer program they've walked into a pretty decent set up. I saw on Twitter the coaches lauding the new pitch. It's a decent set up for the stands which everyone is emphasizing are just temporary. The wrought iron fence and new limestone pillar entry is a nice touch. Really not bad for a first year program in terms of venue. Hopefully they can move the timeframe for the baseball/soccer building up, and find the funds to build a permanent stadium/stands structure.
-
renovate the outdoor track facility up real nice and have that double as the soccer stadium.
-
I'm not a huge fan of professional soccer but I'm sure I'll go to some games this year
-

That's kind of what I was thinking at first, but . . . Texas did that, but I've seen where Texas now wants to build a separate soccer stadium. It gets a little tight if you have all the field (of track and FIELD) stuff inside the stadium and a soccer field as well.

build track a new facility away from the other complexes and renovate the outdoor track just for women's soccer.

It doesn't take away from the fact that it was a very dumb idea to begin with.

Yeah it's dumb to try to utilize an already built stadium that could use renovations as is.
-
I'd like to leave the soccer stadium in that spot, and just make this one gleaming wall of limestone down college avenue from BSFS to the soccer stadium. 3-5,000 seats should be plenty sufficient.

Agreed, for a completely new program, it's a pretty solid start. Hopefully more founder's club member join, and it builds up especially with all the extra $$$ coming in from the TV contracts. What is it, two years before they officially become part of the Big 12 soccer circuit?
-
Yeah it's dumb to try to utilize an already built stadium that could use renovations as is.
What if I told you that the track stadium was upgraded only 4 years ago.

http://www.kstatesports.com/page/facilities-trackandfield
Permanent seating for approximately 2,500 is located on the west side of the facility, which was originally constructed in 1973 prior to a $1.4 million renovation of the complex in 2004, and additional seating for nearly 500 has been installed this spring on the east side of the track.

That web page is out of date because they made several updates to the facility prior to hosting the Big 12 outdoor meet in 2012.

regardless of how it comes about, i really want a nice nifty soccer stadium for our girls. I think they deserve it and I think that Cat fans will support this team very well.

Was this the answer to my question?
sorry missed it... for the washburn home game the benches were set on the far side and no rain shelter. there was also no rain in the forecast for that one (we got rained on in omaha), so who knows

the hill
it was basically a memorial stadium / old stadium combo - old turf football field right on campus, The Hill, and no home fans

I legit thought "sitters" was just some weird futbol term for the bench/enclosure

Tickets came today! They are very nice, I was expecting those old school tickets that looks like they came off of a dot matrix printer.

lost to central arkansas 1-0 tonight

It's game week :excited: who's going to the founders club party?
Holy crap, I had a dream last night after this post that I was in an indoor 2-story mall for some reason related to me going to a non-ksu soccer game (that concept went unexplained) but I'd mixed up the days and it was actually the ksu lady soccer game and all of you people had the mall completely clogged up to where I could barely walk to get out of there.

The tailgate starts at 5, I won't be there until 6ish.
I don't have my tickets.
Did they send them to your old crib? Either way not good, I've had mine for a couple of weeks. I have one game for sure, maybe two that I need to give away.
-
yeah, mine were sitting in my mailbox on the 2nd (and i only check my mail like once a week)

Still no tickets here.

i will be there at 5 btw

The athletic department has a new banner to hang. "Largest collegiate soccer crowd in the history of the state of Kansas." Did the men's national championship at Sporting Park earlier this year really have less than 2500 people in attendance?
-
*regular season

Hopefully the AD takes the potential into account when permanent bleachers are built.
-
Hopefully the AD takes the potential into account when permanent bleachers are built.
Prolly 1500-2500 will be plenty. UMKC barely has 1000. KU has 2500. Just leave build a nice media and suite area to it (I'm sure a few :kstategrad: founder's donors wouldn't mind throwing a bit to have a suite). If you leave area for overflow/people to bring their lawn chairs or set up temp bleachers for postseason crowds easily a solid stadium and layout. I thought going to the game it was already well done for being temporary. Excited to see what they do after the season is done.
-
Also, they need to get something more than tents for the locker rooms, but given that there are only 4 home games probably not high on this year's list.
-
Brainstorming, wouldn't mind something like this, but smaller:
(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dlrgroup.com%2Fmedia%2F470327%2F10-02120-00-Creighton-Soccer_marquee-01.jpg&hash=a8e78c824cbc404067fc69a63cbab8bac8990935)
Basically make 7 sections ~200 people apiece on the lower end and have it say "K-State" in each section, second level and overhand make it look like a mini WSC both field side and outside but in the vein of what Creighton's done there, and then leave both sides of the stadium GA seating on the small hills.
-
yeah, that's not going to happen. definitely not anytime soon

Not enough limestone

I hear ya cfbandyman, don't listen to them
-
Well did we win the soccer game?
-
we lost 2-1 :frown:

Would assume they make it pretty simple, with limestone and a style similar to Tointon on the outside. They should add an overhang thingy to both the soccer and baseball fields, tho.
-
if anyone wants a free ticket for any of the remaining games this year, i have conflicts and won't be able to get back out to the Dibini Family Soccer Complex until next year.
-
what are the days? i might go party with the 'bias's

MIR also gave me a ticket to two diff games (think this weekend's?) - if anyone else needs one I'll be at the fri and sun games this weekend

come hang out lib. metalhead, also come and crush 8-bits pounders in the stade

Pretty much what I had in mind, might have gone a bit overboard w/ Creighton's field as the basis, but I did say for it to be "smaller" but w/e. I don't think it's really asking for too much, especially a few years down the road. Creighton's 6000 person stade btw was $14 mil. If we spent $2 mill on a "rowing shack" we can spend $8 mill on a 1400 person stadium.

I haven't even received tickets from ksu yet.

I'm usually on the "let 'em play" wagon, but yeah, NCAA refs in general (any sport) seem to be worse every year. It's getting ridiculous.

They lost 2-0 to Gopher, who are preseason 19.
Also saw that all grand stand seating is sold out, only standing room only tickets are available.

Unanimous preseason coaches last place team in the big 12. Not shocking, and anything else will be a wild success this season. Very excited to get up to manhattan and watch this ladies build this program up.

This was the case last year as well but it's kind of misleading. The grandstand seats are sold out only because of all of the founders club memberships they sold, there's always room available in the bleachers.

:emawkid:

yeah, founders club was super cheap and included season tickets for first two seasons. won't know much until next year

old people crowd was pretty meh, students were better than last year

And our traveling fans out sung them!! :combofan:

Just finished the replay. Definitely worth watching the final 3 minutes as we parked the bus. Miranda Larkin was immense! Those final two saves!!!
And our goal was quality. Lovely through ball, delicate finish. mmmmmmmm wildcat victory.
I like that Dibbini has the same shape as Frank.
-
Funny story. The gentleman were singing their songs and standing up. They werw impressive. The KU women's basketball team said "Oh hell no." The women's team began singing a pro KU song and it was quite loud. Then KSU crew laughed and listened a minute. Then retorted with "they're not standing" clap clap clapclapclap. The women then jumped up and cheered. Everyone laughed and it was great.
I'll admit I really enjoyed sitting next to Devonte Graham for a bit. Some kids came to get a pic so I moved out of the way. He then said that kid just Deboed your seat. I laughed.
I then said I was actually a Kentucky and KSU fan and that he had beaten both of my favorite teams. He said that yep. We beat both of them cats. We all had a good laugh. It was a great experience.
Tobias avoided me though. :(

I got three sets for the remaining games that I can't go to. One is GA, two are standing room but they're letting standing room into the bleachers after 15 minutes played.
PM sent!
Tickets received. Thanks MIR! :emawkid:

nice home weekend for a few cats games

we were pretty bad last night, middle of the pack baylor dominated us

cats looking good today, up 1-0 at ou
-
really needed to beat OU or at least draw them to get into the Big 12 Tourney. Beating Iowa State on Friday and OU and Tech not drawing, would get us in, i think. Not 100% sure tho.
-
also, i'm anti-moral victories at all costs, but I don't think it should be understated how quickly this team became competitive. Literally only the 2nd season of this team's existence, and only 1st season in the Big 12, only one loss in conference play has been by more than 1 goal. This team is full of fighters and 100% can become a conference contender in the next few years.
-
Enjoyed getting to watch them on Fox sports yesterday, except for the roughly 20-30 minute stretch in the second half where they were just absolutely dominated. OU controlled the ball pretty much the whole time and scored 3 in a row. Cats were good the rest of the game, though.

Agree 100%. It's hard to just expect a program in it's second year to win a lot, or be competitive, but they are right there. If they can acquire a few more players and keep growing, this will be a fun team in 2-3 years. I love that they can push teams like Texas, WVU, and OSU. That loss to TTU as well was the first conference game too, and they only seem to have improved since then. The fact they beat KU is pretty :surprised: to me.

They build the new stadium, they'll have one of the better facilities in the conference, and country.

2-0 start, not bad. I don’t think Oakland is very good, but the Cats handled them like a good team should.

I think we are decent.

It didn't take Dibbini long to build good roster balance between classes.

I think we are decent.
We will know by the end of the weekend. If they finish this trip 1-1-0 or even 0-0-2 then it would seem like a good step forward.

Is it completely done? I can't find any good pics and seems like all social media pics/videos are facing away from the grandstands.
Shouldn't we be trying to have it in the back ground and stuff?
-
It isn't done. I think all of the exterior work is done but from what I understand the interior is way behind. They are still using tents for gameday locker rooms.
-
yeah, still a long way from done. you’re def at an active construction site. fan experience-wise it’s similar to the temp bleachers from before just with the team in the new near-side dugouts vs across the sideline and more of a pita to get beer/food
-
Right on.
Looking at other college soccer stades, I like the ones that have roofs/overhangy thingys. Wish that was in the plans for this one.

New stade is incredible. Can Confirm!

I didn't realize this was the final product for the stadium. Skin ben is going to lose it.

-
The interior is so dope tho. The reason why the tunnel isn't splitting the field and the bleachers in half is that the right side of that tunnel is K-State's side, it has the locker room, players lounge, coaches offices, etc. The left side is the visitors side which is much smaller. On game day there is no reason for either side to cross onto the other side.

I drove by OSU’s soccer stadium a few weeks ago, was really impressed.

I do wish the exterior of Buser Park was more impressive. Even the field butting up against the physical plant facility is cheap to me.

Most college soccer stadiums don't. A lot of them model their stadiums after UNC's stadium. Creighton didn't and they probably have the best college soccer stadium in America and it only holds 4000.

If soccer also gets a covered practice pavilion they better start winning a lot more.
One of the fastest facilities ascendence in women’s collegiate soccer history.

How many programs in America have a facility like that? (assume some have access to similar, but mostly referring to a dedicated on campus one)

Like what we have? A whole lot.

I follow facilities closely and I don’t think I’ve seen a single soccer program have a dedicated covered practice facility built just for the soccer program.
I’d be curious to know which schools have built a covered/or indoor practice facility just for soccer.

We don't have that either. When we need to practice indoors we use the indoor football field.

I didn't say we did, but the master plan calls for either indoor tennis courts or a soccer pavilion on what would become the old football grass practice field.

wait until they get their new stadium and stuff
-
I'll say it again. Easily the fastest facilities ascendance in K-State history. Keeping in mind that BFP is a single sport facility. It's not a women's/men's soccer/lacrosse facility like many of the nicer facilities in the country. Or like Texas which is a soccer/track facility. It's time that this program start moving forward out of the cellar. I haven't seen them all, but I would say in the Big 12 only Okie Lite's facilities surpasses K-State. KU's doesn't count because it's a suburban park that KU leases.

lol, that video board should go a long way in erasing the 25-35 year historic head start between K-State soccer and the rest of the sport.
I've always said you can learn a lot about college athletics recruiting by looking at the size of the video board of the involved programs.
-
They should triple the size of it and watch the trophies roll in.

You are literally still using the fact that 2 backwards ass states didn't stop playing by the old girls basketball rules until 2.5 decades ago as the reason why WCBB is dominated by a handful of programs. While the rest of the states started playing by the men's rules 35 plus years ago. You then use an analogy of UCLA a dynasty that ended FIVE DECADES ago to try and make your bad point. The women literally have the same facilities as the men, and at some schools from a purely basketball fandom perspective the old arenas that have been highly renovated (at a cost of tens of millions of dollars) just for the women are superior to the sterile arenas used by the men.
I didn't say K-State needs to start winning national titles, but they need to start moving their way out of the cellar. The big time women's programs in soccer literally waited decades to get what K-State women got in 5 years.
-
They should triple the size of it and watch the trophies roll in.

All I'm saying is lets ascend from the cellar (Insert Ratt Album cover)

Lost opener 1-2, completely outclassed by the Northwestern version of the Wildcats for the last 2/3's of the game. NW dominated the second half.
New videoboard looks great, pitch looks great, still hating the lighting at the BFS/JVF.
-
Agree on all counts
-
i watched very little of the game, but seeing the pitch made me want natural grass at bsfs

I opened the twitters yesterday and first thing I saw was out goal to go up 1-0, and was like, hmm, wonder if they pulled it off, hit refresh, first tweet was just the sober "Final" and was like welp, there you go
-
I'm going to nerd out.
We've got Musco Lighting (Iowa) in all of our venues except maybe Bramlage, and I just don't like the way their lighting translates on TV.
They went a little cheap at BSF/JVF with the Musco modular light system, it's sort of a pre-packaged deal. No Biggie. The Toint is a more customized system, but on ESPNPlus particularly when K-State sports has their cameras, the infield shadows are just awful. The $2 million dollar system in BSFS while an improvement over the old, still isn't that great IMO. I'm fairly certain it was Musco LED they put in Bramlage when they put in the new Panasonic VB and the new sound system. It's better, but still has dark areas on the floor, at least that's my observation on TV.
Based on my observos, I believe the lighting system on the new practice field for football, will be the best one. 8 standards, 4 on a side.
I can almost always tell when Musco has done the lighting at a stadium just by the way it looks on TV.
-
I think the lighting sucks in stadium as well, it's dark. Flood Aggie's stadium has Musco lights but it doesn't appear to be nearly as dark as BFP. I've always wondered if the location of the stadium, looking into the void of the practice fields and the horrible facilities and grounds graveyard, contributes to how dark it looks, there's no background light at all.
I don't know if I've ever been to the toint at night, so I can't comment on there.
-
Back when I sold data networks, AV distribution systems and video services to schools and colleges (including Sanford Stadium at Georgia #popscollar) for new school construction you had to pile through the whole freaking bid document in some instances. Multiple times the football stadium was in those documents and they would talk about average illuminance , light scatter and stuff like that. So I picked up a little knowledge while trying to get to the parts I needed to be concerned with. I don't think background lighting plays a factor. I think for BPS they just went cheap. Also, if you go look at the Volleyball Arena construction camera, its settings make the BFP look very bright. I just don't think 4 standards is enough, they need better distribution and/or higher towers and more luminaires.
-
how long is long enough to “build the program” and determine what we hired in dibbini
-
27 shots, 12 on goal, 1 goal, draw :Yuck:
-
how long is long enough to “build the program” and determine what we hired in dibbini
Good question. They had the fastest ascendence to top notch facilities in Kstate athletic history. Sure would be nice to see that investment paying off into some upper level conference finishes.
-
we’re no where close to that. unfortunately, gene has continued to show a complete indifference to our non-revenue sports. you don’t have to look any further than the hughes extension. on the flip side, he’s building a new volleyball facility.
-
dropped an L today against purdue, hosting yale next week
-
how long is long enough to “build the program” and determine what we hired in dibbini
I've been thinking around 10 years.
-
dropped an L today against purdue, hosting yale next week
Not only dropped an L but Purdue had a player sent off in the first half and we were up a player for the last 47 minutes of the match. Even being up a player we looked completely over matched, they had the best chances and even the goal we scored was outside of the box. I don't think I've ever seen a soccer team lose a match where they were up a player for an entire half and had a penalty kick as well. I can't see this team winning a single Big 12 match.
-
south dakota state got in that ass today

Maybe in another seven years Dibbini can get us past .500 in a season. But, don't want to get too far ahead - building a program requires baby steps (taken at a sloth-like pace).
-
I thought there was clear progress on the field this season. They were really unlucky to not qualify for the tournament last year so I'm happy they got over the hump this time around.
-
There was progress on the field and far as Ws and Ls go, I don't know if our talent is better, especially given their are a crap load of seniors on the team.
I wholeheartedly disagree that not making the tournament last year was unlucky. We had a home, win and in against the worst team in the conference and managed a whole 3 shots.
-
Regardless of the tourny, any progress needs to be seen for next year, if they become the 7th or 6th best team that is good

The wild soccer cats drew 1-1 in Fayetteville last week against the 8th-ranked Razorbacks in their final exhibition game of the summer. Seems like a game they'd lose by a few goals in past years.
The regular season kicks off today @ Green Bay. 3:00 on ESPN+.

Beat Breen Gay 4-1
Drew a ranked Northwestern squad 0-0. First road draw against a ranked opponent in program history.
Seems like a decent start.
-
Didn't see the UWGB match, I did watch the NW match and they looked like they belonged on the pitch with them. Had a late potential winner hit the cross bar. We seem really athletic and physical. Dibbini has absolutely upgraded the talent.

Glad they appear so far to taken a step forward

Just beat UTSA 2-0.
UTSA beat us last year 2-1 and they were a tournament team.
The ladies firmly have my attention this year.
-
I happened to tune in just in time to see both goals.
The 2nd one was a very nice shot
-
Early goal of the season contender from the freshman Struttmann who led the team in shots and shots on goal in 39 minutes of action. Another freshman Sees added her 2nd goal of the season.
The talent level has risen and now there's more depth. They looked confident and composed during an early 2nd half surge from UTSA and eventually regained control to close the game out.

Nice one.
I'm also reminded that the lighting a BFP and TFS is just wholly inadequate for HDTV. Might be fine in person, terrible on TV/Puter in HD.
From the log book of: If I ran this place
New lighting for TFS and BFS (and BSFS and Bramlage as well . . . despite the expenditures in recent years, NFL and NBA broadcast standards respectively)

You should pester Mean Gene until these issues get resolved.

Sounds like it's time for Mean Gene to fire up the contract extension machine again...
For a guy that's landed two very good hires in revenue sports, he's been the opposite on olympic sports. Hughes is a turd, Dibbini is a turd, Smith is a turd with the jury's still out on VB and women's golf. He's clearly content with the Mittie mediocrity. And, Rovelto has been slipping and the track program (on both sides) is no longer a consistent top 25 team.
As long as the olympic athletes don't get into trouble, I guess that's all that really matters.
-
I feel like we have decent Olympic facilities would be nice to not suck at all of them.

Mittie has got to get a either a top 3 conference finish, a conference tournament championship game appearance, or a sweet 16 this year. We gotta get something, it's hard to think we'll ever have a better roster than now.

It's a win, glad they got it
