I wrote an article for the collegian back in my college dayz ( ) that broke "sports" down into three categories. First there are actual sports including bball, baseball, football, soccer?, hockey etc. Then there are competitions. These are anything that judges make the call as to who wins. This includes figure skating, gymnastics, skateboarding, etc. The last cat. is races. This includes everything that is a race. Swimming, running, crawling, driving, but also includes who can throw things the furthest and jump the highest. So track is a race and not a sport.
(best impression of a father talking to his 2 year old)
now now little 64, those so called "sports" are actually games! You see, they employ elements of "SPORT", such as running, jumping, throwing, etc... They also employ elements of strategy. Games, little 64, games! They are derived from the first SPORT of track and field. OK, you can run off and go play your games now!
