True, there's technically no rule against lacking dignity.

i found this on reddit and thought it was interesting.

“As incomprehensible to us as airplanes are to ants.”

I like this phrase. An ant could be out in your yard when a jet flies over and not recognize the jet as a distinct part of the environment, much less identify as something artificial.

I wonder if there are aspects and characteristics, or even objects, in the universe that we are simply unable to comprehend in any meaningful way. There are questions we will never be able to answer because we can never know to ask them.
This is covered in The three body problem.

Its pretty crazy that we zoom down roads at 80mph in a metal tube with no control over what other people are doing...we just assume everyone knows the rules (merging/passing/etc) and somehow it works (mostly).

I always think about this when people are afraid of doing normal crap. I'm like, we are having this conversation while you are driving 80 with a coffee in your hand, meanwhile some ding dong is coming the other way just as fast scrolling instagram. Driving is so insanely dangerous and we don't even think about it that much.

i think its some kind of invincibility fallacy where you're like "eh, i can slam on the brakes or swerve to save myself. I am in complete control of my own destiny"

Its because you don't have hands or your hands are all weird in dreams.

Yeah, I can recall. It was a very mundane dream.

When I read that, my first thought was "that's crazy" and my second thought was "do I really know what ciabatta bread is?"

it might be the best breakfast sandwich bread. Like i'm willing to listen to counterarguments but i think ciabatta definitely goes in the pantheon either way.

had to google it, not sure if i’ve tried it
i’d say it better be damn good to unseat the undisputed champion of breakfast bread, the english muffin

been a while since we've had a good old fashioned BREAD OFF on this blog, but let's gooooo

NANCY NEGS (english muffin)
1. misleading name. not a muffin at all.
2. only comes in one size and one shape. what ever happened to no self limitations? incredibly self-limiting.
2a. speaking of self limitations, when do you eat an english muffin outside of breakfast/breakfast foods? I'm sorry but its a one-trick pony. Literally nobody eats them other than at breakfast (sociopaths maybe?)
3. selection. You better hope Thomas Brand English Muffins is on point b/c if not you're SOL my dude. Good luck finding another brand w/o having to import from overseas ($$$)
3a. if the automatic slicer that cuts the "muffins" before they go into the package is off and doesn't make the full cut and then you pull it apart thinking it will just come right apart but its not fully separated but you didn't know that so now you just have this one spot that has a bulge and then one side with a crater and you look and feel like a huge idiot (rightly so) who doesn't know how to evenly split an english muffin like some kind of 3rd grader...its just an absolute day-ruiner.

PEGGY POS (english muffin)
1. ?????

English muffins benefit from sausage and cheese or hollandaise sauce doing 100% of the heavy lifting 100% of the time.

When you get those guys in iso, they disappoint.

Shifting subjects ...

Defense. Offense. If a defensive player is defending, an offensive player is ... offending?

I think technically that is correct. One of the few language quirks the brits get right is usually referring to offense as "attackers". I think it's cleaner for grammatical parallelism:

Defenders vs. attackers
Defend vs. attack
on the defense vs. on the attack

etc.

defense vs. offense really only works as an action when it's "on the defensive vs. on the offensive" - "defending vs. offending" doesn't work like you said.

I think they also get the spirit of subject-verb agreement correct in the sports context. We say "K.C. (Chiefs) is," whereas they would say "K.C. are." You're talking about a whole group of people, not a literal single location. I'm also bugged by people saying "the data is," because "data" is the plural form of datum. But I realize I'm fighting uphill on that, me boys. And it's not a hill I'm willing to die on.
