Paging Beems...Paging Beems.

I made this joke in the investing thread and no one commented, so I'm glad that you guys remember that.

Pretty soon solar panels will be a thing of the past.  Paint on houses will replace paneling (once efficiency is mastered).  Pretty cool stuff.  I hear Notre Dame and Iowa State are working together on this project.

There is a company (nanotech, iirc) that made a solar printable ink that could be printed onto foil and was something like 60% more efficient than a traditional panel type.  They did this like 3 or 4 yrs ago and have been pumping out at max capacity in Germany ever since.  The europeans have been keeping them busy at the large scale production plant level the the point that it hasn't filtered down to the consumer level yet.  That said, paint for houses, window mullions for commercial buildings, car roofs, etc can't be too far away.

The main issue is storage.  Batteries need to really come a long way to make it affordable.

I think in the future fast food will have more warnings than packages of (legal) joints.

Batteries (or something new we haven't imagined yet) will get us there.

In Apple's innovation lab they have a battery that can power an iPhone for a year and only takes 30 seconds to charge.

What do they hook it up to to charge it? It seems like you would need a much beefier power supply than a wall outlet for that to work.

No idea, didn't ask questions.  But 115V @ 10Amps would do 8 W*hrs in less than 30 seconds (capacity of my SIII battery).

So, it has to be crazy expensive or unstable, right?  I mean, why wouldn't that be everywhere now?  Also, hasn't their stock been in troubs lately?  Tech like that could cure all that ails a company I would think.

Your SIII battery doesn't have the capacity to run a phone for a year, though. Or were you saying that the battery would still need to be charged every day, and you would have to replace the battery after 1 year?
