Yeah it's Seinfeld

Greg, goEMAW is a scrubs house.

Lots of Big Bang Theory fans here.

This. I also love friends still too.

I'm sorry you millennials don't "get" Seinfeld. What a time to be alive though.
-
Old people “get” way less things than millennials do and thats ok. Seinfeld was almost cancelled if that tells you anything about how good it was.

Not going to argue against this because both are fantastic. So are Parks and Rec, Always Sunny, and Veep.

We get each other Townie.

If it doesn't have cuss words I'm not interested in watching.

Greg after you finish Seinfeld and Scrubs, hit up this classic gem: Three's Company

hmmmm probably sunny for me but love the sein, the office and parks. been watching some older stuff lately cheers is great and the early years of roseanne are also pretty good

Have never heard that sitcoms must have laugh tracks, and I strongly disagree with that take. Sitcoms have evolved and no longer need them. The exceptions being every terrible show on CBS.
-
Seinfeld and Cheers. Depends on what mood I'm in as to which is better. Also, WKRP, Family Ties, Happy Days.

King of Queens

Yeah that was weird. Sitcom just means situational comedy. So, like, any comedy that has a standard premise and each episode features zany hijinks.

Sort of, but most sitcoms still follow a loose dramatic arc. Seinfeld' "a show about nothing" was more the exception than the rule. Friends, Cheers, Office all followed arcs as they aged. I agree you don't need a laugh track.
This thread would be more interesting if it's was "second best sitcom." Seinfeld is obviously the best and it's not even close.
Second place would probably be Cheers although many younger people would argue Friends. The Cosby Show is way up there and doesn't get enough love these days. Office, Modern Family, Frazier, Mad About You, and King of Queens probably round out the next tier.
I don't get people who like shows like Big Bang Theory and That 70s Show. Never found them that funny.

Cat 27 with actually a good list :surprised: Eastbound and Down should be on my list. Vice Principals is good but this season has been dark, they didn't even attempt to make jokes last week.
Mr. Bean, AWESOME, although I'm not sure I'd feel the same way 25 years later.

I don't get this one. I tried & thought it was good for a few episodes. I kept watching until Charlie left. But too many characters are just canned sitcom characters. The over-protective mom. The over the top dorky nothing like his dad oldest son, the vain oldest daughter, & the happy not bright son. I really liked Andre & Diane, but I couldn't get past the rest of the family.
-
I am not putting them in order yet, but my faves have been (and these are judging them at their peak, some of them suffered a dip in quality):
Seinfeld
NewsRadio
The Office
Parks and Rec
Brooklyn 99
Arrested Development
The Good Place (might not count at sitcom, but I think it can)

In the last month I tried to start watching these re-runs again. I remember Peggy being awful, but the combo of her & Bobby made it unwatchable.
I wish there was a version that edited out Peggy just like I wish there was a FNL with Street & Lyla edited out.

The re-run sitcoms they played after school and in the summer mornings when I was a kid
Green acres
Beverly hillbillies
Jefferson’s
Good times
Andy Griffith
I dream of genie
Bewitched
Dick van dyke
Leave it to beaver
The little rascals
Gomer Pyle
Happy days
Different strokes
Mash
Honeymooners
Lucy
My three sons
Threes company
Sanford and son
20-30 years worth of great sitcoms all jammed into my brain in like 5 years, it was really great.
I forgot the partridge family and many more.

The Good Place is definitely a sitcom, I like it but a season and a half of this plot line is more than a bit much.

'clams list and cat 27's second list :nono: makes me think we should do two different eras. 80's and before 90's and after. There are amazing comedies like Sanford & Son, All In the Family, The Jefferson's, The Golden Girls, etc. that got edged out on my list because of recency bias.

I liked Benson and WKRP a lot as a kid, more than shows that were geared to kids my age like Silver Spoons, Family Ties, and Diff'rent Strokes.
-
I tried wkrp a lot, great intro song, les nessman and Herb Tarlock were great but I don’t think I really got it. There were a lot like that, Barney Miller, taxi, etc.. Not a sitcom but my fav was Rockford files.

i’m a huge fan of his, still watch rockford files all the time, his house was incredible

I used to think the poster known as gatoveintesiete was called that because he was 27 years old, but after these TV threads I think he probably chose that name because he was born in 1927.

The Patty Duke Show was pretty good.
-
I don't know if these are the best but they're the ones that I can watch over and over and never get tired of.
The Office
Freaks and Geeks
East Bound and Down
Scrubs
Reno 911
Atlanta and Last Man on Earth are two current shows that I have to watch as soon as they're on.
-
Party Down gets an honorable mention from me.
-
the office’s last two seasons are bad enough to push it far out of the top spot
i’m guessing many here have never seen the uk version which is where the us team directly lifted word for word much of the early seasons plot and dialogue

Lists should be divided by era. I mean Seinfeld couldn't be made today because something like 40% of the wacky shenanigans they got into would never happen because everyone has smart phones.

Only one mention of the Beverly Hillbillies? Man, that's a shame. The best use of misunderstanding as comedy there ever was.
