Actual field of dreams, from the looks of it.  Though I'd fear a homerun might just hit a sasquatch.

A reformed Art Briles would be interesting.

I cannot even begin to fathom the cost/footprint of a football players rape dorm.  The hoops one set them back enough, I just not sure where or how they would squeeze that in on campus.

My guess is that would be a minimum condition for Art Briles to even sniff that job.

The band signed a feature twirler from West Des Moines and it led the sports portion of the evening news, even before KU signing a drake transfer and tiger's accident investigation findings.
incredible

not sure it would necessary fall into the category of a donut but i think the polo grounds should really be in the top 5 of any serious wtflol stadium list

My uncle (RIP) used to teach and coach in NYC.  He went to the Polo Grounds a ton.  It was an interesting place that was like no other ballpark.  He used to talk about it with me.  Thanks for the memory.  Apparently, the batting cages were hauled up into the air above first based by a hoist system so they were out of the way during game time.

IIRC, when the football program was shuttered by Lew Perkins, a ton of debt was in place (some of it may have been shoveled upon the dying football program to clean up other sports' accounts).  I believe a condition WSU admin has placed on considering reviving football is donors/the interested paying off that debt as the initial step to the process of that revival.  I believe the debt level is about $20 million.  That is a pretty big check for WuShock.

Dalton.

Reference to the Patrick Swayze character in the move "Roadhouse" which was set in a fictional Missouri bar called the "Double Deuce."

I will say though, besides the obvious usage of the NEZ/Vanier for the players and coaches, the best thing the NEZ did was finally balance out the bowl. It drove me nuts that the East side went further north than the west side, and for no real apparent reason.

If you think that's bad, you should see the weirdo add-on in the NE corner of the Northwestern football stadium.

https://goo.gl/maps/BEWjToRWJXBpjmPq9

I'm sure that drives skinnybenny nuts.

WTF?  I thought Northwestern was supposed to be an elite educational institution, yet they let this get by?  I have to question such things.  It makes absolutely no sense.

On the plus side.  Most people in that furthest north section have a pretty elite straight on view of the side of a building so there is that.

I have thought about my previous post.  In light of how bad Northwestern football has been for years, maybe these were the primo seats.  Go to the game, party with the students and drunken fans of Chicago, and never have to actually pretend to be watching the game.  :dunno:

« on: June 25, 2020, 04:04:39 PM »
I just don't know what KSU could have done short of sealing all kids in a plastic bubble 24-7.  One of my best friends, who is a young, divorced parent with a respiratory issue went on lockdown at home when this all started months ago.  No one in or out of her home.  She never left home (all but riding bike once in a while, and a few times curbside no contact pick up to go).  All deliveries disinfected before being touched.  The only contact with humans was he oldest son, who also locked down with her.  She did this for over 3 months.  Still got covid.

It is what it is.  It is going to spread.

Wacky's World / Corona Model Guessers
« on: June 16, 2020, 04:57:07 PM »
Saw this as part of a thread title in the Birther Pit.  I was like  :excited: because I thought somebody was gonna post pictures of hot women and were were gonna have to guess if the had covid-19 or not.

A friend of mine, who is an amazingly hot girl (does fitness model competitions) has covid-19 and is losing her mind.  I have mentioned we should put together a calendar called "Covid Cuties."  She laughed, but thinks there could be a market for it.  Any chance somebody could work on a thread in this new direction?

We have an area of this blog called "Wacky's World" and a thread like that would fit in perfectly there.

Sorry.  Did not know I could raise a topic in "Wacky's World," for I thought that was solely his domain.  I will raise the issue there.

Go to a Dillon's or Hyvee in Topeka, about 20% wear masks at any given time.
Go to a Dillon's or Hyvee in Lawrence, about 80-90% wear masks at any given time.

Has to say something regarding the difference in the two communities.

Don't worry.  They will make up all of this dough (and their projected $120 million shortfall next year) by doing a little digging in the couch cushions.  Move along.  (Classic reference, props to the originator whose name now slips my mind).

I completely disagree with that guy, but because I am against any sport that doesn't make money.  If they can't support themselves, they shouldn't exist IMO.  If schools want to piss money away, give it to smart kids who deserve academic scholarships and not rough ridin' worthless shot put thrower scholarships and subsidies.

I world without women's field hockey is a world in which I do not want to live.

Listened to them talk about this on 580 Sports Talk while driving across Topeka yesterday.  The question was laid out how much money will Beaty get out of the Hawks.  The host did not think the $ million.  Then a recent KU grad, Brandon D (I ain't spelling his last name - it is too SE European for me to sort out) dropped this bombshell.  He then said "Pay him now!"  Every cent, and more.  There is no way KU wants any of this stuff subpoenaed.  They want depositions from the federal investigations, documents, emails, and all sorts of stuff that will tear the ADs and hoops program apart showing a culture of corruption and how Beaty was singled out in an effort to fire him.

The next issue quickly turned to how much KU fans are growing to hate their AD.  At first they liked him, for he gave them hope for an improved stadium and he got rid of Beaty.  But now they have an increasingly obvious impaired head football coach, and the corruption in hoops about to be uncovered to the point it could really harm the program.

Oh, how things turn in Lawrence.

I don't like how the stars are placed.

Didn't want to infringe upon 'Murica's trademark.

Okay to eff with K-State.  We don't have nuclear weapons.

I have to note that watching my streaming TV service, the commercials that are fed to me are literally 33% KU hoops tickets commercials.

So I do have to give the KU  AD's office credit for tossing money out there to try and sell tickets to those in the region (I live in Topeka).  However, the marketing is a bit ineffective to aim it at me.

Grabbing the stool was irrational. I mean, he grabbed it by the seat and would have been swinging a few rinky dink legs at someone. At least grab the legs and swing the seat at someone, because more mass.

He is not on academic scholarship.  Don't even pretend that he is smart enough to be an actual student at any college or university.

Other Sports (Tiger's Back) / Re: CHIEFS
« on: January 19, 2020, 05:40:01 PM »
I was scared AF watching the game.

My earliest clear memory is watching the trauma of my dad and uncle as the Chiefs choked in the longest NFL game in  history in the AFC championship game of 1971.  I was fearful that one of two things would happen today:

1) KC would choke the game away
2) I would die or stroke out (thus allowing my last living memory to include not knowing if KC would ever make the SB again).

Well, I'm not dead.  So that's a win for me.   :Woot:

It appears that the navy is some sort of cult - even more so than cultaggie - just not as outwardly gay.

This is from an event on  the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan.

There are hundreds of similar films on the YouTubes, but this was the least disturbing one I found.  Some were bordering upon being classified as a "snuff" film.

Hasn’t Arrowhead always had seats everywhere?

Yes.

When they did the renovation, they did some sweet things with seats tied to the skyboxes.

The reality is, put in seats at the Bill, you lose seating capacity.  Depends how attendance and sales go in the future if they were to ever consider this (if it will help boost waning sales, and they can charge a premium price, it might happen - but man, for young people with kids, it will make games even tougher to attend on the financial side.

75% off of what, $100?  How do they stay in business, sandwich shop ads?

Hey, CBS throws in CBS ALL Access as well (normally a $100 value - which when PSVue was being a pain on streaming some NFL games via the local affiliate, this was a godsend).  CBS just wants subscribers/viewers - it is all about the ad revenue and looks.
