It could be debated that oscar's classes were better tho.

no, it couldn't.

Frank in 2011: https://kansasstate.n.rivals.com/commitments/basketball/2011

oscar in 2015: https://kansasstate.n.rivals.com/commitments/basketball/2015

I liked oscar's 2013 class too, but most of them went away.

frank just couldn't recruit point guards.  we had nobody to carry the torch from Pullen/Clemente to Angel.  Hence Sprads.

I'm not backing oscar, but it's well known that Frank's recruiting was dipping a bit. Just a bit tho. I'm actually surprised that oscar has recruited decently.

The product on the floor indicates that Frank recruited better than oscar.

other than coaching three of the best pgs in school history during his five years at kstate, he couldn't recruit pgs.

The product was decreasing with Frank once Pullen left tho. Still tourney teams, but they were frustrating teams. I'd obviously take them in a heart beat.

Just talking about Sprads - dude had to play PG for us because we had nobody else when Pullen/Clemente left.

Angel is so overrated. Sorry, but he was up and down with us. I know he's a very likable player, but he was very inconsistent.

No - the product on the floor indicates Frank was a better coach than oscar.  the recruiting wasn't anything special, IMO.

Frank's recruits won the Big 12 after oscar took over.

I don't know what to tell you.  You've convinced yourself that Frank was an exceptional recruiter.  he wasn't.  it is what it is.  We had some exceptional players (either skilled or athletically or both) enter our program on the Huggs wave.  Beasley, Walker, McGruder, Pullen, Jamar, etc.  But we just weren't pulling the same level of talent toward the end.  I'm sorry.  guys like Gip, Shane, Nino, Sprads were all good/decent/average players.  This is what our recruiting had devolved into.  Pretty decent, average players.

it's just funny, because if there was one single identifiable factor that marked martin's success at kstate it was that he brought in great point guards.

haha, OK.  Pullen wasn't a PG in the first place.  Clemente was very good.  Angel was pretty good - much better than anything we have now.

The single identifiable factor that marked martin's success was Junk Yard Catdom.  We were super athletic and played insanely hard.  That was Frank Martin basketball.  it wasn't pretty at times, but we clawed your face off.

The more I read this thread the more I think Rodney is the most underrated player in K-State history. He carried two different coaches to great things.

This.  He was the cog that made oscar's motion go.

Frank wasn't an exceptional recruiter, but his recruiting wasn't on the downswing when he left.

He was great, but didn't carry anything.

You must not have followed K-State basketball from 2011-2013.

They're all playing significant minutes. Stokes, Brown, and Wade are good recruits. Jury is still out on the bigs.

martin's current usc team is junkyard catty as eff.  but no pg keeps them from being good.  call pullen a pg or a combo or whatever you want.  he was a smallish guard that could shoot, defend and handle the ball.  if you want a good team you usually need two of them.  you're mumped if you don't have at least one.

2 of the top 15 points per 100 seasons since 2002.

So yeah, pretty good.
