no one i know with a central vacuum in their house still uses it. costly and difficult to maintain and really not that much more convenient than just a vacuum.

if pulling a vacuum around is too hard for you just get extra vacuums and put them in different parts of your house.

It's not the vacuum part. It's the dust that flies when using one. Centravac puts that in the garage.

You're welcome. I thought of one more big thing. No carpet. Hardwood, tile or linoleum only. We have carpet in bedrooms. Regret that decision. Baths are linoleum. Day area is hardwood.

Seven years later and we are ready to replace carpet. Hard floors are in good shape.

If you're building a house so big you can't handle a regular vacuum you better rough ridin' be hiring a maid before you opt for the central vacuum. what on earth

You still have similar attachments. You're just putting the dirt in the garage instead of a leaky bag on wheels. It's about indoor air quality and not flinging dirt around the house. Get it?

Research your site location carefully and see if there were indians buried there before building.

sounds like a terrible waste of money and maybe more of a pain in the ass than just owning 10 vacuums

I like the suction deal in the baseboards some central vac systems have - just sweeping the kitchen crumbs into it seems like the most efficient way to keep the dirtiest part of the house clean.  However, vacuuming carpet with a central vac seems almost the exact opposite.

My parents had a central vac.  The end result is carrying around a giant awkward hose instead of a vacuum.  Would not do.

IPA4me, go get a Dyson and cross that off your list.

Not very far from where we are now. It's too small.

yeah these things are actually awesome.

not awesome enough to make a central vac worth it though.

Buy the neighbor's house, keep yours, and build a covered walk way or something.

yeah, if that had to be the trade off I would definitely stay put. luckily it's not.
