Get him to post here.

He couldn't handle it.  Plus, he is a borderline KU t-shirt fan.  My dad would turn over in his grave if he knew that.

I would IRL PI him mercilessly once he moves in until he sees the error of his ways.

people who have sprinkler systems - how do these things work? is there like an on/off switch somewhere? timer? is your water bill bananas?

Don't most people with sprinkler systems have private wells?  I can't imagine running the sprinkler system off metered water.

and yes, there is a timer that can be manually turned off and on.

Water is super cheap in some places.  Probably most of this blog's readership has access to super cheap water.

so you're saying your system is run off of metered water?  Honestly, this is suprising to me. I can not think of a person I have met that has a house less than 20 years old that has a sprinkler system running off of metered water.

yes. my current house (built in 2014) and my old house (built in 2005) both had sprinkler systems on metered water. I have 7 zones and run the living crap out of the systems and my bill is about $30 a month in the middle of summer and almost nothing when we aren't running it the rest of the season. water costs almost nothing here. we are neighbors with flood city, USA though.

I know of biz's with sprinklers in KCMO that get a second meter specifically just for watering the lawn because they don't pay some sewer tax on the water spent on the lawn, and the second meter is the only way to actually prove the quantity not hitting the drain.

required where I live. You pay a little more per 10,000 gallons, but no sewer tax.
THANKS OBAMA!

people used to do that in salina many years ago, but nowadays you pay an "excess use fee" (irrigation tax, basically) for water consumed above and beyond the average of your winter monthly consumption (which is also used to set your sewer bill)

Long winter showers bring cheap May flowers.

then you end up paying a larger sewer bill all year round.  the system works out pretty well imo

I absolutely need to do this. I don't mind paying for the water but eff man it's not going in the sewer. That accounts for a large portion of my bill.

I had no idea private "urban" residents in the lower 48 had their own wells anywhere.

"well" might not be the right word. i don't know. but you drill super deep into the ground and then you water your yard with whatever is down there. you pay like 3k or whatever but then yard water is free for life. some people are able to rent their own stuff i think and do it on their own but i think it's better to just pay. most people i know in wichita do it.*

*i know like 11 wichita households.
