Kansas State Football / Re: 2024 Season Prediction Thread
« on: Today at 02:50:43 AM »
Unless it's some weird 4 way tie situation cause of how many teams there are.

Well... It's going to happen, maybe not the Big 12 this season, but it's going to happen and probably somewhere every year until they get rid of the non division play with 80 team conferences. It's mathematically unavoidable.

RedBird IMI is an investment consortium majority funded by the United Arab Emirates. It is headed by former CNN CEO Jeff Zucker. FrontOffice Sports first reported on the event in March. An official announcement should land in the next 10 days, according to a source.

Broadcast rights are yet to be formally secured; the games are expected to be distributed on a streaming service instead of traditional linear television.
isn't this the LIV golf playbook ?  It's just Middle East oil money buying into an industry under the Player centric camouflage

Not really, no. That part of the article, about Redbird, is really misleading. Zucker definitely doesn't "head" Redbird, Gerry Cardinale and John Thornton are. Zucker is the CEO but he reports to several different people.

More to the point, LIV is owned and operated by the Saudi PIF. Redbird has no one from the UAE in their company or on their board, it's might be the whitest company in all of sports. The UAE money is simply investor funding to make them more liquid. Their money and power comes from a much scarier place, if the sanctity of sports means anything, Goldman Sachs.

I've already seen Redbird completely ruin my redsox. To see them turn their venture capitalist eyes towards college athletics is chilling. They couldn't be more removed from what the college sports fan wants, and they truly don't give one rough ridin' crap either. They're going to do to this what venture capitalists do to literally everything they touch. They'll act with the only goal of wringing every single dollar out of their investment, then will throw the shell of what's left in a ditch to die off.

Coleman Hawkins will definitely piss you off multiples times in a game if you've watched him

Yep. He's a bonehead but definitely will also make big plays.

I hate this for so many reasons. Giving student athletes the chance to capitalize off of their own name, image, and likenesses was something that we needed generations ago. Of course all of the greedy people around sports saw NIL legislation as not a chance to right a wrong, but to line their own pockets regardless of the long and short term damage done to college athletics.

was it a subtle dig at ku, sure.  did it hurt insecure ku fans online, yeah it did.

I'm doing just fine, buddy. I think it makes KSU Athletics look insecure.

I didn't gather that he was referring to you but the people replying to that tweet. Hit dogs hollering etc etc etc

6
Which MLS team will he be playing for after the summer transfer window?

Like I know all this is frustrating and disheartening recently but my god the twitter reaction (and yes i know it's twitter, overreaction is the name of the game) is over the top. It sucks, but where have these bozos been when all the KITN of football recruiting was going on during the second part of the LHCBS part 2. Maybe they are too young to remember.

certain twitter accounts need to be banned from the app. ELON!!

specialteamsu is an embarrassment. I think the kid is still in college. The guys my age, from KU, who he's battling with, are worse. Grown ass men, with kids and a mortgage battling burner accounts on twitter is sad as eff.

Might have to start throwing money at players already committed to other schools

I sincerely hope the Cats aren't the only team that isn't already doing this.

Probably not. We got two guys who were committed elsewhere at this time last year, McNair and Glover. There are also the guys in the portal who are testing out the NBA right now. These plenty of guys still in the portal as well.

There's no way his KSO name doesn't have some form of "wacky" or "fanning" in it. Absolutely impossible.

We'll see. He's burned out of here, twice.  He's burned out on the phog. He's burned out of multiple twitter handles. He doesn't have any other place right now for his meltdowns. I don't know how he can be on a forum format without devolving into wacky mode, especially there where there's so many opportunities for him to lose his crap. I don't think he's on any pay site and if he it's a shared login and he can't get the person who's paying kicked off.

Bucees has the best selection of Blue Bunny, even near houston, they have flavors that no other retailer has. I learned that the hard way after passing on some mocha almond fudge, then not finding it anywhere else and not wanting to schlep back to bucees

He’s still an active and quality poster on kso.

Who do you think he is on there? I'm pretty sure he got banned years ago and never came back.

Dai Dai and RJ were moving backward on the depth chart with Dug, Castillo, CJ and seemingly Battle.  They went from 3rd and 4th at the position to probably 4th and 6th.  We'll see how the rest of the roster fills out, but we'd probably need to run 3 guards quite a bit (which we might do) for Dai Dai and RJ to even get the minutes they got last year.

I don't remember where I saw it, but I saw someone post something saying that Dai Dai was told he would still be starting most likely, but he was still advised by his ppl to leave.  No clue on validity.

I seriously doubt the coaches promised anyone anything other than a chance to compete for time. Dai Dai didn't want to be put in a position where he had a bunch of juniors and seniors competing for minutes he felt like he earned. I'm also guessing there's a home component to this and he's going to end up at a school closer to Chicago.

deion looks pretty much like deion on twitter today

Disappointing, to say the least, and quite a juxtaposition from his speech he gave earlier in the spring about going to class and preparing for life after football.

The Kansas City Current has fired the head of its medical department, Carlos Jimenez, for violating the NWSL’s non-fraternization policy, the club confirmed to The Athletic on Wednesday. Multiple sources briefed on the situation said the policy violation concerned a relationship with a Current player.

Jimenez joined the Current last December. He worked as a physical therapist for the Washington Spirit last season and for the U.S. women’s national team from 2019 to 2021.

“When we learned of (Jimenez’s) actions in violation of club and league policies, he was immediately terminated,” the Current said in a statement. “We remain committed to making sure our policies and practices ensure a safe space for our players and our staff.”

Jimenez did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

The NWSL instituted a non-fraternization policy, in addition to a policy on workplace discrimination, harassment, and bullying, as part of the league’s reforms following the allegations of sexual coercion against Paul Riley and subsequent joint investigation.

The non-fraternization policy applies to all NWSL personnel, including players, coaches, owners, managers, trainers, and any other employees of the league or its clubs. The policy states that “NWSL supervisors may not engage in, develop, continue, or pursue any romantic and/or sexual relationships or encounters, even when consensual, with any employee (including NWSL players or trialists) over whom they currently have direct or indirect supervisory authority or management influence.”

A team’s head of medical would fall under the policy’s definition of a “supervisor,” which includes any staff member who could “responsibly direct (employees), including as to performance and medical decisions, address concerns or exert influence over such actions in the interest of the NWSL or a team.”

Jimenez is the second NWSL team staff member to be publicly dismissed for violations of the policy in 2024. Last month, the NWSL announced that Houston Dash goalkeeping coach Matt Lampson had been fired by the club following an investigation concerning NWSL policy violations. The league found that Lampson violated the non-fraternization policy and the code of conduct in place for NWSL coaches, and additionally suspended him through the remainder of the 2024 season.

As a season ticket holder who lives in Ames rough ridin' Iowa, this is the absolute worst case scenario. I'm livid. Not letter writing mad, but pissed nevertheless.

23
This project would have cost about 35% to 40% less just 4 years ago.  The Dax plan would have cost $200-$250 million tops, and provided a fantastic renovated facility in keeping with the general architectural make up of the rest of the campus and modernizing a historic venue with one of the most interesting histories in college athletics.

They're headed towards a value engineered MLS'ified stadium, that as of right now, they're not even sure they're going to be able to afford doing the whole thing.

For the record, there isn't a solitary MLS stadium that looks like this abomination. The only thing close is Miami literally building an oversized temporary erector set as a stadium.
