What’s brutal about it? Good relationships with players is of ultimate importance in the free transfer era. High pressure tactics to get kids in the door out of high school just leads to high percentages of kids bolting after year 1 or 2. Keeping good relationships means you can get a lot of kids on the rebound that you recruited the first time.

if it's more important to him to go to a school that he can brag about to his friends and has 2 top 150 running backs committed last year...than a school with the absolute perfect situation for his football career, what can you do

OU lost almost all of their contributors this offseason. As the season goes on, that program might not look near as attractive.

Yeah I know almost nothing about recruiting other than you can land plenty of good talent through the transfer portal.

Also I like the idea of not being the time share sales people of football recruiters.

Weirding out over being the next best option for a player is weird AF. And agree with not burning bridges, it's like business, relationships matter, especially if there is a potential down the road to cash in.

Best to keep as many irons in the fire as possible

He loves the recruitment process about as much as any recruit we’ve been involved with in recent memory. Glad he’s getting to enjoy it a bit.

That brings up something that I would like to know the answer to. Been not allowed for alum to recruit athletics to college sports; has that changed with NIL?

If OU gets Edwards I hope they don’t ruin him. Obviously with a new head coach things could change but undersized players has never been their thing.

He needs to come for a visit where we're honoring Sproles for something and, ideally, promoting Deuce for Heisman. Make him watch a RB love fest that OU would never match.
