 Well he never actually says he won't take a head coaching job. He just says he doesn't need one. That can easily be converted into "Clemson is a great place and it takes a special offer to leave, but when your alma mater comes calling that a truely special opportunity."

He finally hired Venables on an interim basis, paying him as a graduate assistant through the spring. When Snyder offered him a contract, it was for $33,000 per year. Mike Stoops was ticked that Snyder paid him so little, and when he walked down the hallway to confront Snyder about it, Venables stopped him. "NOOOOOOO!" he recalls screaming at Mike.
