cans seal better and block out all light
This is true but you get a much higher rate of Dissolved oxygen and Head Space oxygen in cans, since the filling process is not as controlled as bottles.

Most blind tests on can vs bottle shelf life comes out being nearly identical due to those issues. (bottles leach o2 at a higher rate, but have a lower ppb at packaging)

The other issue is,  you can purchase a bottling line that will give you a low DO and HSO number for about 50-60k... That same price on a canning line would leave you with a product that would last about a week on the shelf, due to poor packaging techniques. This is why a lot of breweries bottle,  the cost upfront is way lower.

Try some of the new cans from mother's next to a bottle. You'll taste the difference, the can is obviously stale.

They're also a lot lighter than glass, making them cheaper to ship.

and stronger for stacking!
Not necessarily true!  Breweries that "can condition" their beers can only stack two pallets high for 3-4 weeks as there isn't enough pressure in the cans to support the weight. (Blvd has this issue at the canning facility in Minnesota)

aluminum bottles?

Aluminum bottles are filled the same way glass bottles are filled. They are similar in shelf life to glass bottles, but are more $$$. Some people think the fact they let no light touch the beer makes it a superior product. Most studies show it doesn't really make a difference.

No one uses them exclusively as the cost is too high.

Also aluminum bottles are easier to keep cold than glass, are lighter, and obviously don't break like glass.

I can only think of a few craft brands that use Al bottles: Blvd and maybe Red Hook?

Mostly M/C and ABI use them for stadiums and other venues that don't allow glass. There are a lot of states that actually don't allow Al bottles to be bought from a retailer. There are some weird reasons for this, one of them being the old pull off can tops... When they were popular some states outlawed them as they were terrible for the environment. Most laws say "any metal beverage container must have a non-detachable cap"  thus making metal bottles technically illegal in those states.

Modern cans are non-detachable.

I went to Denver this weekend and stocked up on Black Shirt Brewing's various red ales/ipas/porters.

Visited Evansville IN last night. Enjoyed a couple Carson's Brewery's Pagan Pale Ale. Quite the tasty pairing for my hot wings and grilled veggies.

My new fav sour.  Medium funk, not as sweet as petrus.  It's really great.
