Morel 'Shrooms
« on: April 24, 2017, 10:39:10 AM »
I thought this was just something those damn hippies ate. I tried them for the first time at my hippy in laws and oh my gawd they're soo freaking good..
Looks like people hunt them  Is this like the Appalachian outlaw type of stuff?

I've heard, it just seems silly to me.... Until I tried them
Would definitely pay someone to go "hunt" them for me though.

you can often buy them for $25-50/#.    Which is why many hunt them.

I thought this was an Iowa thing. I never heard of it until I moved here. In the five years I've been here not a week has gone by without someone asking me if I hunt them or if they can come onto my property to hunt them.

I might combine the two theories of physics if I tried some but then a lot of people would be out of work so I haven't tried them yet

Are you saying that one has to do with the other?

Yes, I've been told when Red Bud trees begin to bloom you go hunting for some shrooms. Also after a good rain.

i don't hunt but have several buddies who do.   It's all about the perfect combination of temp and moisture.    The season started late this year, and many were worried the heavy rain would cause problems.

One day they aren't there, and the next they are.

One time when I was fishing down by the Kansas River I came across this guy with a pillow case along a trail. He was all like "Hey man, any mushrooms down there?" and I was like "Nah, just catfish" and that was it.

Glad I could contribute to this thread.

Now what's the largest living organism on Earth? No, it's not a blue whale. It's a tree, a Quaking Aspen. That's right, a single Quaking Aspen in Utah covers 106 acres of land and is estimated to weigh more than 6,000 metric tonnes.Feb 1, 2013

Saute'd Morels in butter and chopped garlic :lick:. They are super hard to find here because you have to beat the deer to them. Deer love them and Emo needs to get to sniping off all the deer so us humans can have the Morels.
