We have no scholarship juniors, 3 scholarship sophomores, 5 scholarship freshmen, and 3 guys committed/signed for next year.
So there should be no problem with oscar operating on a two year deal. Not extending him is the surest way for him to leave on his own. Not having an AD may keep him safe from being fired now but it certainly doesn't provide any security at all.
I'm with you. I think we're in a weird gray area where we can choose not to extend him and not get penalized to heavily.
We have a young roster, and most of them are probably going to come back and try to fight for oscar's job. At least I think they will because I get the feeling that they like him.
If we had 5 seniors on the roster next year, and next recruiting class would be really critical to create a new core of players, I'd probably just vote to extend. But we really don't have to recruit more than 1-3 guys next year, depending on attrition, so the impact is low.
If they tank next year, we can fire oscar for pennies, and the new guy can try to go get a player or two in the late period. If they do well, you just give him a standard extension, and we get back to the normal buyout.
