2010-2011 Starters
« on: February 21, 2010, 09:39:12 PM »
Any predictions on who will start for us next year? I'm thinking Asprilla, Kelly, Sutton and Pullen, but who replaces Denis? Does Pullen move to the 1 and we put McGruder as the 2? Or start Russel as the 1?

I don't know if it's THAT obvious. Irving seems to play it more than him, though I don't think he's proven himself yet. Especially in Big XII play, it seems like Pullen has barely played the 1 at all.

I think Irving will bring it up plenty.

martin likes bigs.  big bigs, not samuels sized mini bigs.  it'll be very surprising if he doesn't start two real bigs in the majority of games.

Also, JamSam LOVES coming off the bench. I can't imagine he wants to start next year. And since Frank seems to take players' opinions into account, I don't think he'll force him to start. I'm with sys. I think that Frank wants a true big at the 5. Unless JHR gains 20-30 before next season, I think Asprilla will be starting.

No way a kid new to the program starts over JamSam with his 2 years of experience. Martin may like big bigs a lot, but he likes experience a lot more.

True. I guess I should have phrased it as "who will be starting by the beginning of Big XII play?" You think it will be Asprilla by then?

agree that this is the most likely 4/5, at least to begin the year.

I would be pretty surprised if Freddy can come in and start at all consistently next year, even in Big XII play.  He has a LOT of learning to do in his first year to get back in BB shape and physically and mentally ready to play in Frank's system.

I look for him to start his senior year.  It's really a horrible shame we couldn't get him in this year with a redshirt and have 3 years to play.

Lost in all of this is the fact that Asprilla would have had no trouble coming in and starting right away on any KSU team in the last 20 years.  It's nice to be good again.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I gotta say... If Frank is willing to start LuCo then I expect hom to start Freddie next year. He may only be in there for 2-3 minuntes before JamSam arrives but he'll probably start.

Rod

I don't see Samuels starting. We already tried that this year. He makes a bigger impact on the game coming from the bench, plus I'm not sure how long Samuels would play on a game to game basis if he started due to the difficulty he has staying out of foul trouble. Also, if Samuels starts at the 4 and kelly is at the 5 we have a SMALL team, 6' 7" and 6' 8" and skinny at the 4-5. Dominique will NEVER start at the 2. We would have the nations worst ball handling starting 5 period. All you'd have to do is press us and we'd turn it over every other trip down the court. I think pullen, mcgruder, sutton, kelly, asprilla is the most likely combo, but I think you could see pullen stay at the 2 and either russell or more likely irving at the 1. I've heard quite a few rumblings of Asprilla being an NBA prospect, not to mention he averaged 14 and 9 as a freshman. Like a guy posted earlier, if Colon starts now, then a much better Asprilla starts next year.

I agree. However, I haven't seen Irving doing a great job as the 1. I just don't know any other option besides Russel, and I haven't seen him play a significant amount of time in a while.
