Just to be clear, minor age was 12 then.
he's also a birther, doesn't believe in evolution, thinks homosexuality causes natural disasters, is a proponent of christian sharia law, and called for a ban on muslims serving in congress. he'll win in a landslide in Alabama.

The legal age of consent in Alabama, then and now, is 16. Under Alabama law in 1979, and today, a person who is at least 19 years old who has sexual contact with someone older than 12 and younger than 15 has committed sexual abuse in the second degree. Sexual contact is defined as touching of sexual or intimate parts. The crime is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
The law then and now also includes a section on enticing a child younger than 16 to enter a home with the purpose of proposing sexual intercourse or fondling of sexual and genital parts. That is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
In Alabama, the statute of limitations for bringing felony charges involving sexual abuse of a minor in 1979 would have run out three years later, and the time frame for filing a civil complaint would have ended when the alleged victim turned 21, according to Child USA, a nonprofit research and advocacy group at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jonathan Gray, an Alabama Republican strategist, noted that Alabama Republicans are not willing to put their Senate seat at risk, arguing that they’d rather vote for anyone over a Democrat.
“I think they’d rather put Satan up there and then get him removed in the next election than lose the chance to correct what they think has been an injustice for eight years,” Gray told The Hill.
In 2015, while Moore was serving on the Alabama Supreme Court, he considered the case of Eric Lemont Higdon, a 17-year-old, who was convicted of raping a 12-year-old at a daycare center.
...
Eight justices found that the 12-year-old’s fear of harm from a much older and larger individual was enough to establish “implied threat of serious physical injury” and reinstated Higdon’s conviction. Moore was the only dissent

State Rep. Ed Henry lashed out at Roy Moore’s accusers and Republicans who said the U.S. Senate candidate should back out of the special election in an interview Thursday evening with The Times.
Henry said he believes legal action should be considered against Moore’s accusers, finding their story unbelievable.
“If they believe this man is predatory, they are guilty of allowing him to exist for 40 years. I think someone should prosecute and go after them. You can’t be a victim 40 years later, in my opinion,” Henry said.

Some of the responses I've seen trying to justify the behavior are :sdeek: I'm just curious why so many people assume the allegations to be true and are not at all skeptical based on the timing. That's more of a rhetorical curiousity of course - they want the allegations to be true. But these sorts of political grenades - allegations of conduct over 30 years ago - lobbed at the last minute are suspicious and possibly the dirtiest of tricks.

The son of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore has been arrested in Alabama on a misdemeanor charge linked to allegations of illegal hunting.
Etowah County Sheriff's spokeswoman Natalie Barton tells news outlets 27-year-old Caleb Moore surrendered Monday on a charge of third-degree criminal trespass. He was accused of hunting without permission and hunting over bait last year.
Barton says Caleb Moore was released on $1,000 bond.
Moore's campaign issued a statement calling the arrest a "cheap political trick."

Even before allegations surfaced against Moore, the committee believed he was in trouble. Internal RNC polling conducted around a week ago showed him leading his Democratic opponent by just two percentage points. The committee has been evaluating its options about what to do about Moore over the last few days.

People in positions of power should avoid private contact with others. Hence not assuming the risk of being accused of impropriety.
Evidently I assume too much with some posters.

I know some Texas state congressmen who always have a third party in the room for this reason. Considering private meetings with women as "at risk" is ridiculous. Of course, it's different for the average Joe and a distinguished individual, but even then it's not crazy as long as you aren't a creep.

Pastor Franklin Raddish of the Capitol Hill Independent Baptist Ministries, a nationwide church, told AL.com from his South Carolina home that the spate of accusations against men in politics, Hollywood and elsewhere was a "war on men."
"More women are sexual predators than men," said Raddish. "Women are chasing young boys up and down the road, but we don't hear about that because it's not PC."
Politics is a game of attrition. Sometimes, the question itself is the stigma.

Will be telling how Veritas responds. If they’re really seeking the truth they’ll release a statement praising WaPo for adhering to journalistic standards. If they’re just a right wing shill for folks like Roy Moore then I suppose they will keep denying.

I'm not at all sure that he's going to win. But I can't blame folks for (1) being skeptical of 40yo allegations that conveniently came to light at the most politically damaging time despite Moore being a prominent figure for the past several decades, and/or (2) being pragmatic enough to realize that electing another Democrat would be far more damaging in the short term to their social and other political causes than electing a conservative of low character who can be ousted in the next primary. Is it deplorable or moronic to be pragmatic?
Is it also pragmatic to woo literal nazis so you can gain more voters?
Of course he's going to win, everyone acknowledged that the first day. We are talking about people who voted for Donald Trump, you know... deplorable moronsThis is not about deplorable morons unless you consider people of conservative faith to be morons. This Alabama organic horse cookies and the election of Trump goes back to the Supreme Court justices ruling gay marriage bans to be unconstitutional, even though majority of voters were against it. The religious right thrown into frothed up fury. Where has their fury been manifested? At the ballot and against the perceived liberal candidates who helped push gay marriage onto society. They are willing to vote for scum to defeat the greater evil. Moore is a gay hater deluxe. Their fallacy is electing scum will not change the SOTUS ruling. My philosophy is spit on the ground and deal with it like a civilized adult.

I agree that it is wrong to meld politics with Faith of any source. Civil governments should be apolitical. People of faith though vote. They vote for folks who they believe will not pass laws that are contary to their faith, and sure won't vote for someone they think will use the apparatus of government to attack and limit their faith and it's practices. I think some conservatives convenientlyrics put on Christian suits to push their agendas. They tried to make Jesus the earthly king, and when he said no, they crucified him. These convenient so called Christians will do the same to true believers who will be stunned for being duped.Of course he's going to win, everyone acknowledged that the first day. Conservatism is not a faith; those who think so are morons at absolute best, but shouldn't be let off that easily. People who view conservatism as faith are actually hell-bound, Godless heathens, more concerned with hating their neighbors than being loving and benevolent.

Rumors that Franken will resign tomorrow. Maybe Moore will do the same thing after he wins?
Here's the difference....Their claim is they don't believe it...sonwait for him to get charged and then they will change their tune why it okay to keep him in the Senate.
When Al Franken was elected, the voters did not know he did all these horrible things (correct me if I'm wrong)
When Roy Moore is elected, the voters are going to elect him even while knowing what he did.
So, should he really be recalled if they still elected him knowing everything he has done?

Wait for him to get charged? That's not going to happen. These allegations are from over 30 years ago! Any statute of limitations, civil or criminal, has long since run.
So he's being tried by the media and voters. And that's a good thing from the alleged victims' point of view. But it's not really fair to Moore or our legal system, which has a presumption of innocence and statutes of limitation for a reason.
If he wins, what's the Senate going to do? Refuse to seat him? I don't think it would even be constitutional for the Senate to refuse to honor the Alabama vote.
The allegations against are vile and many, but they're too damned old. They also smack of political dirty tricks, waiting for over 30 years to come forth, after the final campaign deadline, despite him being a prominent public figure for decades.
For the record, I suspect at least some of the allegations are true, he's a creep and a nutjob. And I still think he is permitted to serve if he wins.

I'd vote for him. But only because I'm a pragmatist and understand that the political implications of giving this seat to a liberal far outweigh the harm of allowing an alleged scumbag to serve for a couple of years until the next primary. All things being equal, I'd much prefer a decent person to fill the office. But all things are most certainly not equal in a closely divided Senate. Doesn't mean I would like voting for him. Helps a little that the allegations are decades old and politically motivated, but I acknowledge the guy is a nut and most likely a perv.
Question: given the horrible nature of the allegations, why did Democrats wait to reveal them until after it was too late to replace Moore on the ballot? They would have had a far easier time torpedoing Moore during the primary, but that's not what Dems wanted. They don't care about keeping Moore out of the Senate - they care about winning the seat for a liberal. That's why they waited. Seems that politics outweighs the allegations for the Dems, too.
Mine was better.

I think if you are willing to vote for Trump, it probably isn't all that hard to rationalize voting for Moore. It's hard to get your moral compass back once you lose it.
Dax was pointing out that Alabama while being almost dead last in education and obesity is surprisingly high in nursing off tax dollars. They are a fat, dumb leech is Dax's point

ROLL TIDE!!!
What's California's economy rank?
Can't answer the question, sad
California with easily the highest Federal Pay Roll in FFY 2015, outdoing DC by $8 billion.
$376 billion in total federal spending.
What are they going to do if they secede?
Has to be tough to be dax right now. Everything he has railed against his beloved party is smushing right in his face...and he has to eat it.

You assumed a premise that there is no evidence to support (that Democrats previously knew about the assaults and concealed them) and then immediately turn around and point out that your own assumption makes no sense UNLESS something even more sinister was going on. :jerk:
You know, it could also be that the victims did not have the strength to come forward until they realized that Moore in the senate was a very real possibility.

of course, none of this has to do with the fact that the bigot roy moore tried to have sex with high school girls when he was 35 and isn't fit to serve in the united states senate

Evidently not a problem for Dems when Roy Moore was a Supreme Court judge, or when he was running for senate, or after he won the primary up until the final deadline.... and then finally a big problem! Golly, if Dems really cared about this, you'd think they might have brought it up back when Pubs still had an opportunity to pick someone else....

It became a problem the second those women stepped forward and told their stories. Are you saying that those women are actors? Or democrats? Or working in consort with democrats?
Dems are really lashing out now that they’ve come to the realization that they made a sexual predator and his enabler the faces of the DNC for nearly 3 decades and sold out the entire party to the sexual predator and his enabler.
We love sexual predators from the South and everywhere else: As long as their Democrats

Amazing what you can blame on Hillary these days
Pubs are trying to imply there’s some nuance and moral wiggle room here, but there absolutely isn’t and they know it (and they’re going to vote him in anyway).
Quote for "rule of law is fundamental" quote and backpedal regarding DJT futurePubs are trying to imply there’s some nuance and moral wiggle room here, but there absolutely isn’t and they know it (and they’re going to vote him in anyway).
1. Moore has categorically denied the allegations.
2. These allegations are from over 30 years ago. So old that they could never be tried in a court of law, so he is being tried in the media. The media is not equipped or impartial to adjudicate these claims. We have statutes of limitation for a reason. The rule of law is fundamental to our nation, or it is supposed to be.
3. The timing of when these women came forward with the allegations, despite Moore being a public figure for decades, is suspicious. They didn't just wait until Moore ran for Senate. They waited to raise the allegations until it was too late, by law, to replace him on the ballot. Maybe there is truth to the allegations, and maybe not (see points 1 and 2), but the timing of the allegations is politically motivated.
Call that "nuance" if you want.
The Clintons being shitty has nothing to do with this. A pedophile sexually assaulting girls is worse than anything the Clintons did. But you know what? That doesn't mean either side is right. The Clintons aren't running for anything right now. If they do, yell at the top of your lungs. Right now, all you are doing is justifying electing a pedophile due to some false comparison. Moore isn't running against Hillary. Let that crap go.
And the suspicious timing of claims argument? STOP TRYING TO JUSTIFY ELECTING THIS PIECE OF crap! They came out because of the "me too" movement. So many people have come forward years later with credible claims that have been proven and confessed to. There are a million reasons why a fourteen year old wouldn't come forward with claims against a DA in the 70s. At what point after that would a victim feel the need to come forward? Maybe when they finally feel like the public is ready to believe their claims and support them.
Moore denied them? Who gives a eff. Multiple women, some if not all being Republican, with no association to eachother accused him. Some accusers had multiple people corroborate parts of their stories. The WaPo proved that they vet the allegations but clownsuiting Project Veritas. How sure do you have to be that someone sexually assaults children before you stop supporting him?
You realize Gloria Allred has her fingerprints all over this, right? That doesn't give you pause? The almost certainly forged yearbook (that Allred won't produce for inspection because it is almost certainly forged) doesn't give you pause?
And by the way, what was the age difference between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky? One difference is we know that actually happened.
Maybe this isn't abundantly clear, but this isn't about Bill Clinton. This isn't about Hillary Clinton. You can keep bringing them up all you want. Whatever they have done does not somehow justify putting a pedophile and sexual predator into the Senate. Whatever Hillary and Bill have done could justify you voting for Drumpf. It doesn't justify anything else. The second you start yelling about the Clintons, you are just convincing yourself to lower your moral floor of what you accept from the Republican party.
Andrew Jackson literally murdered a guy outside of his military service. Therefore, it's totally cool if we have convicted murderers run for office.
Moore fucks children and Franken does not

Franken has admitted to some of the allegations and there is photographic proof. Moore has denied the allegations. The allegations are much older against Moore.
Kdub thinks all black people are the same

I haven't read where Moore was alleged to be a pedophile (I admittedly don't gaf about alabama politics), but I do remember a serial rapist serving two terms as president, and actively campaigning with another asshat who served two terms as president.
Weird

Byrd and Clinton have absolutely nothing to do with this. They are not on the ballot. This isn't about Republicans being worse than Democrats or vice versa. This is about having the moral standards of keeping a pedophile out of the senate.
Also, referring to sexually assaulting a 14 year old as "hitting on" is really disturbing.

In the broader picture both Byrd and Clinton are relevant and were heroes of the DNC. Applauded, toasted, placed on huge pedestals by the party.
Moore, at best (and stupidly) has the grudging support of the GOP, with many Pubs openly rooting against him, and the majority leader saying he'll launch ethics inquiries straight out if Moore is elected.
If a democrat jumped off of a bridge 20 years ago, would you jump off one, too?Dax would think it's okay to push anyone off that same bridge.

I was under the impression that "hitting on" did constitute sexual assault in this enlightened day and age. Isn't that what's going on (Moore and many others) here? We're applying today's societal standards to conduct that occurred many years ago.
LOL at saying WJC and KKK grand wizard aren't relevant--rough ridin' pussy.

You should have stopped with "not a good look." That's what "credibility" is all about. If she lied about this, and she did, it calls into question every single word she has said. Gloria Allred.... ugg.
I guess I missed where Moore was convicted of pedophilia. If that's true, of course he shouldn't be senator.
I'm not calling anyone a liar or picking sided, the timing of these (and other) accusations just seem bizarre (too convenient). Right after the primary and right before it's too late to reprint the ballots, or whatever.
At least the people Clinton raped reprted it right away.

If that's true, of course he shouldn't be senator. While it may be "convenient" doesn't it seem most likely that the timing is related more closely with the #metoo movement after Weinstein and Spacey than an election? I mean, similar things have come up about numerous politicians in the same month or two, it doesn't seem like a stretch that one might be in the middle of an election.

Right.... because there's never been an urge to report sexual harassment until someone invented a "metoo" hashtag (which happened after these allegations surfaced, btw).

The inscription is signed "Roy Moore, D.A." D.A.? He wasn't a district attorney at the time. Where did that come from?
Turns out this isn't the only thing Nelson lied about. She now admits that she added the date and restaurant location at the bottom of the inscription. But what about Roy Moore's signature?
The inscription is signed "Roy Moore, D.A." D.A.? Where did that come from?
The D.A. is on the yearbook inscription because she lifted it from a divorce pleading Roy signed (small world), not realizing that the initials denoted Roy's legal assistant. She's. Still. Lying. Or do you think Roy and D.A. both signed the yearbook?
Let me guess, another "not a good look" moment but I'm sure everything else must be true.
I don't know why he feels the need to defend him. You can both be a Republican and not support Moore. Some of the best Republicans are doing it.
So, the goal here is "one accuser down, eight to go"?
So people say they support Moore even if he did what he was accused of but they are still arguing whether it happened or not?
He was accused of meeting a 14 year old girl while he was ADA. He met her at the courthouse, while she was there for the traumatic event of divorce proceedings. He groomed her, had her leave her home and meet him down the street without her parents knowing. He drove her 30 miles away to his secluded trailer home, disrobed and placed her hands on his groin.
And now you are claiming a win because some other girl wrote the date in clearly different handwriting on her yearbook. I mean, if you are actually cool with him being elected even if those allegations are true why do you even need to discuss the yearbook?
mocat, after seeing the access hollywood tape have absolutely zero effect on how pubs voted in the presidential election, why on earth would this surprise you?
You're right, he became DA in '77. And was he still DA when he served a circuit court judge? Odd... But I'm sure it's just a weird coincidence that the divorce pleading and yearbook inscription both use D. A.
Yes, let's totally believe the woman who has already admitted to falsifying part of the inscription. And her attorney who refused to supply the ear book for inspection because she knew it was forged.

Well that, and its partially to completely forged. But that's a minor detail, right? Just "not a good look."
For me, it's a refreshing change of pace to see Republicans launch these sorts of despicable attacks on other Republicans instead of Democrats.

Serious question: if you were an attorney in this situation and your client swore to you the signature was authentic, would you seriously recommend turning it over to Moore's team for "analysis"?

The attorney refused to supply the year book because there is no reason to. Moore's campaign is never going to go "Yup, that's his handwriting.
You got us!"
Well that, and its partially to completely forged. But that's a minor detail, right? Just "not a good look."
For me, it's a refreshing change of pace to see Republicans launch these sorts of despicable attacks on other Republicans instead of Democrats.

Isn't Jones the racist democrat?
So people say they support Moore even if he did what he was accused of but they are still arguing whether it happened or not?
He was accused of meeting a 14 year old girl while he was ADA. He met her at the courthouse, while she was there for the traumatic event of divorce proceedings. He groomed her, had her leave her home and meet him down the street without her parents knowing. He drove her 30 miles away to his secluded trailer home, disrobed and placed her hands on his groin.

If you want to have a racist off between Jones and Moore, Moore will win in a landslide. He'll then print up bumper stickers celebrating the victory.
the guy is a proud birther who wants to make it against the law to be gay and wants to make it illegal for muslims to serve in congress and said that there is sharia law in indiana and illinois. the fact that this thing has come down to a year book signature off for a lot for some people is gross.

All of that stuff is actually true tho and straight from Roy moore's mouth. He's not shy about letting people know it either.

I hadn't seen this before. It's completely bizarre and perverted. Why did the ada live in a trailer (molestor den?) and how did abduct a 14yr old without her parent knowing about?
If he had a trailer like that, you'd think there'd be lots of incidents like the one described above. Could be the tip of a pervert ice berg.
Where did I say you were wrong?
FTR, the same lady who forged the yearbook IS the same lady who is telling this trailer grope story who IS the same lady represented by Gloria Alrad. Not an abundance of credibility there.
I get hating the guy bc he's an evangelical and you don't like his morals or whatever, but at least two of these accusations have fallen apart. It's not cool to brandish people chomos that aren't actually chomos.
The allegations: Gloria Thacker Deason told the Post that she met Moore when she was 18 at the department store where she worked at the Gadsden Mall. She said they dated on and off over several months, including dates where they drank wine. But she said that the relationship did not go beyond kissing. “My mom was really, really strict, and my curfew was 10:30, but she would let me stay out later with Roy,” she told the Post.
The allegations: Becky Gray told the Post in the story published Nov. 15 that she met Moore at Gadsden Mall, where she worked at the time, when she was 22. Gray said that Moore repeatedly asked her out, and that she consistently turned down his advances.

Which Breitbart links did you pull these from?
And, um, the woman -- I mean, all this time along, and I’m gonna read another one, we’ve never really talked about the woman who first came out against Roy Moore who produced the yearbook that you say, Susan, is just the death knell. I would think a dress owned by Monica Lewinsky would bring down a president, but it didn't.
So I'm surprised that you think that this yearbook, at least parially forged, by a performer, Playboy model who goes on Maddow, who voted for Hillary -- um, you know, I see some politics there, but I haven't brought that up every step of the way because, of course, in this “me too” environment, you must always just believe the women.
And I think that there's a lot of reasons why we need to look at the women seriously and believe them, and in many cases -- like, for example, I spoke to accusers in Mark Halperin, which, to which he admits a lot of what he's accused of doing. I spoke to them. I believe them. I'm just wondering if all women need to be believed, especially when the allegations are over 30 years ago. And I'm concerned that we are being the judge, the jury, and the cops here.

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski is skeptical of claims against Roy Moore (https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2017/12/09/brzezinski_franken_accuser_tweeden_playboy_model_who_goes_on_hannity_who_voted_for_trump.html)QuoteAnd, um, the woman -- I mean, all this time along, and I’m gonna read another one, we’ve never really talked about the woman who first came out against Roy Moore who produced the yearbook that you say, Susan, is just the death knell. I would watch a TV series about the alternate world FSD lives in.
Even if the accusations are true, doesn't matter. Better than a democrat
Just curious if the "they should've come forward sooner if they wanted us to believe them" people also think Bill Cosby is innocent.
In all seriousness, there are a lot of liberals who have a real problem with due process.
Just curious if the "they should've come forward sooner if they wanted us to believe them" people also think Bill Cosby is innocent.
Actually, he was tried and not convicted (mistrial after hung jury). So yes, he is innocent until he is proven guilty (That whole rule of law thing). This demonstrates the difficulty of such old allegations.
If you're asking if I think he did it.... no idea.
I mean as an “attorney” wouldn’t you assume innocent when making claims. Seems like if you actually worked in the profession you would allow due process. Unless you know you didn’t actually work in that industry.
Due process has nothing to do with this you dumbasses

It looks to old to turn old Roy's crank. If it is a gelding how will he accomplish this feat. And how do we deal with PETA who is already on the warpath about inducing factory farm cow rape? Timing will be important if you are a liberal. If he waits to do the unnatural act after he is seated, the Senate would have ethics grounds (HORSE MOLESTATION) to kick him out. Molestering women/girls ain't a sufficient reason for fellow members. It is all moot though if the horse is a robot.
This horse does not look like it is consenting to whatever Moore is doing to it.What is the guy behind the horse doing with his hand? Strange things in Alabama these days.

I can't wait for the Drumpf tweet if Moore loses.
Moore lead down to 3,000

First off, I would have voted for Jones.
But it is true. Just like the multi-time accused sexual predator/rapist and a man who acted in an extremely misogynistic fashion while president and his enabling wife, who worked to destroy her husbands accusers are still beloved by millions of Dems/Libs. So much so that Libs have been melting down for over a year because the enabler and the sexual predator aren’t back in the White House after getting 63 million votes.
Dax is extra angry today after decency won in Alabama. No one is shocked.
Will someone please get dax some salve for his butthurt :frown: sad..... really
What makes it even funnier is that Bannon doesn't drink!
The 63-year-old decided to call it quits in 1998 after spending two months commuting between Los Angeles and London, where he was party of a non-stop drinking culture in the financial sector and realizing: 'I look like s**t, and I feel like s**t'.

I was going to make a post about how the funniest thing about this quote was that it came from King, but then I remembered that Steve King is the racist POS congressman, not Peter King.
Props to 1% of the red state voters for voting against a guy of poor moral terpitude. Sad the dems couldn't put up a candidate decent enough to wipe the floor with Moore.
Even Nate Silver acknowledged if all roles were reversed a pub still wouldn't have stood a chance in a blue state. Proves Alabama is more intellectually dignified than NY or CA, which anyone with a brain knew already.
:combofan:
I feel bad for Sassy today. You know he beat the hell ot of that poor horse after getting humiliated.
Moore winning would have been an black eye for us moderate republicans.
I would rather have had Moore in there for two years instead of Jones in terms of advancing conservative policy, but not having a complete whackjob like Moore in the Senate is a pretty nice silver lining to last night. Congrats to everyone, I guess.

I mean given New York, Massachusetts, and California have had Republican senators since Alabama had a Democrat, this seems to be a heaping pile of horse crap.

He definitely wanted to “own the libs” by getting a sexual predator elected

"Imagine how evil the Democratic platform is that an accused child predator had a realistic chance at winning"
"What are talking about? A majority GOP state took the moral high ground tonight. This is a win for the GOP."
"I don't like Moore. Don't associate me with him bc you are missing the point.
I haven't seen anything to indicate he is a pedophile and I hope he starts a new legal trend of coming against libel online posters like yourself!"
"Minorities swung the election once again. Blacks who know nothing more than "Vote against the white guy" showed up big time, looks like an amazing D+93%.
They don't seem to have rebounded well in Africa either. In fact the only place they seem to rebound well is on a basketball court."
"Depends on how much voter fraud was involved.
And we should all know by now that Democrats will steal an election if you give them the opportunity too.
The fact that some Democratic polling places have over 100 percent turnout, and, in some other cases, not a single Republican vote, tells you all you need to know about how Democrats feel about voting integrity."
"Yup. Many of you traditional Conservatives need to take an objective look at the Alt-Right's positions. They are backed up by good statistics. You may wish the world was different, but that isn't going to change it."
"Everyone is tribal except for whites, we will be the death of ourselves."
"I have said on this board, numerous times, that this country is screwed. Numerous times post-Trump winning. There is just no stopping the "demographic" issue. The next time a Dem is in office, amnesty will happen, Texas will turn blue, and that's it. Game over. It's been game over for awhile now. Trump's Presidency is the last gasp for America. We're toast.
And I've said this numerous times before tonight"
"Unfortunately, the Left does not care about truth or falsity when it comes to winning. They only want to win. The convictions in conservatives' hearts, to not vote for certain people, in tonight's case- Moore, gave the Democrats an Alabama senate seat.
And if even for a second, let's not talk about that fact and instead examine what is now going to happen. Our press is going to go absolutely insane with this, that its - over for Republicans, over for Trump, over for the Right, blue wave....
We wont fight dirty like the Democrats and thats why they keep winning and control the narrative.
But like I said above, once a Dem gets in, 2020, 2024-doesnt really matter, and all illegals become voting citizens, Texas will turn blue and that's ballgame. That's been their endgame from the start and theres really no way to fight it"
"Policies don't matter. Because the Democrats own brown people's votes, and all that matters is breeding/importing enough of them."
Holy crap is that really from texags?

There truly is nothing like it. It makes me so happy. Also the George Soros paid protester thing. (I mean usually they go hand in hand, but not always.) I walked around one of the confederate monument protests and a bunch of guys in stars & bars jackets—who by the way had all ridden their motorcycles in from out of state—accused me of being a paid protester bussed in by George Soros from out of state. (Then they set up camp outside of those monuments for two weeks and still lost.) So, so much of the South is incredibly losery.

You're talking about, like, the extreme lunatic fringe of the populace, like maybe 1%.
The Northeastern/UPMW transplants are collectively far more racist and into enclave segregation living. So much so they're incorporating their gated communities into municipalities with their own police force.
The south is gross and racist because of transplants lol, how does dax come up with this stuff?

Moore said his campaign is collecting “numerous reported cases of voter fraud” to send to the secretary of state’s office.
Now that he’s not going to be a senator and seems unlikely to prey on more underage girls, Roy Moore is kinda adorable.

No, the point you obtuse dumbass. Is that all the supposedly “enlightened” transplants flock to their white enclaves and set up their own little exclusively white townships in the middle of areas that before they arrived were very integrated.

Do you want to have a serious conversation about the push/pull factors that make people decide where to live?
I'm sure that correlation to the whole "black belt thing" is just there because those people are too lazy to move to new areas am i rite!

good thing none of that applies to the south... well at least until the transplants showed up
Median income by state
only dax would brag about all the racists moving to his beloved south
and as we all know... dax is a transplant to the south and according to him all the transplants are racists...
make your own conclusions
i think i know what conclusion dax came to
Verifiable sociological trends based in reality are "catch phrases."The south is gross and racist because of transplants lol, how does dax come up with this stuff?
Yeah he's used that one before, amaze
Yup, it's transplants from Wisconsin that love the Confederacy
No, the point you obtuse dumbass. Is that all the supposedly “enlightened” transplants flock to their white enclaves and set up their own little exclusively white townships in the middle of areas that before they arrived were very integrated.
Do you want to have a serious conversation about the push/pull factors that make people decide where to live?
I'm sure that correlation to the whole "black belt thing" is just there because those people are too lazy to move to new areas am i rite!
Lol, don’t start bringing your little meaningless catch phrases in now.
It’s real simple, why is there the great migration South? The transplants are purposely increasing segregation (and urban sprawl) and now the gentrification issues are mounting in the urban areas. Because the wealthier white empty nesters are selling their white flight houses in the burbs and buying new condos downtown. Pushing out the less wealthy indigenous population.
You’re clueless. Don’t even start with your bullshit.

And your whole thesis has been the south isn't bad until those whites from up north came down. Pfff acting like the south was all hunky dory since 1865 till the babyboomers started retiring.

Not true. The whole “thesis” has been while the South moderated and became more integrated along came the transplants and their white flight burbs . . . and now Southern cities have a growing gentrification problem, driven by? White folks, many of them of the transplant variety, and many of them supposedly progressive in political leanings.

Sure, can we admit it took/takes Federal Courts to (kind of) break up segregation in “enlightened” land, and white flight suburbia has effectively defeated any real attempt to fully segregate schools, to the point people have basically given up?
We now have the issue of urban millineal/white gentrification, and then flight (or private school) once children arrive.
I mean I honestly kinda get dax's point but he isn't explaining it very well and I'm enjoying the flailing.
Can you please explain at some point? Cause I am completely lost.
I think his basic point is the South isn't meaningfully more racist than supposedly enlightened northern liberal cities. I mean there's a reason Michael Che called Boston the most racist city he's been and the Boston Globe did a huge series on how racist Boston is and why there is a Troost wall and extreme segregation in Chicago. (for example). I've said this before, but when I've been in the south I don't feel like whites are as "afraid" of blacks as they are in the North/Midwest. It feels like a more comfortable existence on the surface, even if there is some deep-seated hate there.
I'd also love to live in Asheville.
The overarching point is saying "all of the south is racist" is as lazy of a stereotype as all the racist stereotypes.I don't think anyone is saying the entire south or its population is racist, see Doug Jones, Klan prosecutor. But to say the South doesn't have a serious problem with racism infecting the majority of the society on some level is a bridge that is pretty far.
Why that has to be explained in fine detail over several posts to the libtards proves just how dense and ignorant they are.

I can agree to part of it. You have a bigly blind spot for the rampant erosion of civil rights across the board though, see your comments on voter ID, education access and funding, and a few other issues. Lets not make it seem like the South was actually Reconstructed like it should have been. Sure white flight and gentrification are major issues (mostly defacto), but they don't hold a candle to the same old tricks from state legislatures using de jure power to keep people in their place. The fact there is a verified "black belt" with its legacy reaching directly back to slavery should be enough for you to back off this imported white flight being a major cause of issues and not icing on a rich slice of chocolate cake with two scoops on the side.
And he just barely lost.

Once again your left to flail about regarding obvious things that are already understood.
The simple fact that you by implication are saying that gerrymandering is strictly a southern thing is laughable. Again, reconcile yourself that right there in the Midwest are two of the most racially divided metropolitan areas in the United States (for example). That Boston is “the most racist city in the United States” (for example).
I’ll have to find it again but the other day I just read a NYT’s op-ed discussing the black migration . . . South, out of NYC, and Northeastern cities.
Eye test don’t lie. Transplants to the South filling white flight suburbs, establishing their own little “towns” on the golf course and disrupting local highly integrated communities with their money and influence . . . and guard gates. Again, now Southern cities face urban core gentrification issues driven almost exclusively by white folks, of which a vast majority are transplants.
the South just can't catch a break. after a history consisting entirely of slavery and racism and segregated schools and whites only water fountains and kkk and lynching and riots and people like the south carolina frat guys in Borat, the South was finally all moderate and integrated (citation pending), but then wouldn't you know it, here come a bunch of yankees to make it all segregated and racist again!
example: all the backwards bumblefucks offended at the Lee statues coming down? born and raised in yankeetown, North USA
When Kansas integrated its schools in 1904 err . . 1955 it was a great day.
They were still fighting and arguing about desegregation in KCMO into the 90's, and it went all the way to the Supreme Court.
Spending that much money in Kansas City is unfair to the rest of Missouri, the state will argue, and the expenditure is producing only slow progress.http://www.nytimes.com/1995/01/11/us/kansas-city-s-widely-debated-desegregation-experiment-reaches-the-supreme-court.html?pagewanted=all
Why was it showing "slow progress"?? (Pro tip: White Flight suburbia was just fine with their little enclaves and they weren't shipping their kid to KCMO, that's why).

I agree with much of the overall point you are trying to make here.
You do however lose me with the notion that Missouri is somehow part of the "North" in this discussion of vernacular regions.

That's like going to Coffeyville and concluding that all of Kansas is like Coffeyville.
The South, approximately 127 million people, Baton Rouge 227K.
Speaking of which, I heard an interesting tale this weekend about a shooting in Coffeyville and they won't even arrest the shooter.
Now I've never been to cville but I imagine it's similar to most of Kansas
:sdeek: I did not realize it was that bad

Coffeyville is pretty much like any small town in Oklahoma.

This thread is for calling people racist, SB.
The prize for most racist city goes to Earth.
I've lived in the south, midwest, and the northeast so I feel uniquely qualified to talk about this. The racism in all three places are different and rooted historically. The racism is more overt because the institutional racism is deeply rooted. However, southerners, even racist ones are much more likely to have black people in their circle than others elsewhere. If we completely disregard slavery, southerners older than 50, were alive during Jim Crow. Most people who rightly jumped on Roy Moore for his glorification of slavery likely couldn't remember the last time they ate a meal with a black person.
Midwesterners generally have a "not in my backyard" philosophy. Every single major Midwestern city is segregated. Blacks move in, whites move out. White flight is the midwest. I never had an issue with white people in the midwest until I came home to dinner with daddies little girl. I never had a single relationship with a white female that didn't have very serious pushback. White Midwesterners only know black people through television and that informs the behavior.
Northeast racism takes a couple of different forms. Boston gets a bad rap for racism because it's an immigrant city and a perfect microcosm for race relations in the northeast. Blacks, Italians, Irish, Jews, and other smaller ethnic groups were fighting for the same space during the industrial revolution. In Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia to a lesser extent, the cities became incredibly segregated, but unlike post civil war south, it was by choice and not institutional. These areas remain incredibly segregated and parochial. Boston and the northeast don't have a problem with blacks but an issue with all ethnic groups. In NYC people stick to their Burroughs, which are segregated. In Boston, the Italians have the north end, the Irish have southie, the blacks have roxbury, and the WASPs and Jews have the western suburbs.
I couldn't personally tell you what's going on out west but the treatment of Asians and Latinos is well documented. I read this yesterday about how supposedly woke people in the PNW treated high school kids who dared to take a knee.

No one has the market cornered on racism, this crap is generations deep, err'werr.

No one has the market cornered on racism, this crap is generations deep, err'werr.
Racism. I’ve been watching it a long time — the ’30s to now. We’ve come a long way but we’ve got a long way to go. The South has always been mumped up, but you know where you stand. The racism in the North is disguised. You never know where you stand. That’s why what’s happening now is good, because people are saying they are racists who didn’t used to say it. Now we know.

I know multiple dudes who believe that whole hardheartedly and they all live in KS-MO-NE respectively.
One makes any women who support him in the sales process drive to all meetings in a separate car and he won't stay in the same hotel as them on overnight trips or socialize with them after hours unless there's a large group of people or his wife is present.
According to my research on texags, this is necessary because of what the left did to kavdawg

oh my, a fourth option enters the ring. you can't trust broads because they'll claim you raped them for no reason which you certainly didn't do and/or it was consensual and/or you don't even know her.

Always trust women who wait to come out about something that happened 30 years ago just when the alleged perp is about to get a political position that LibDerp Nation doesn't want them to have.
Never question the motive, just accept the accusation as fact and of course . . . guilty as charge. If a LibDerp Leader is accused of any impropriety of a sexual nature immediately begin the deflection/obfuscation/circling the wagons/victim destroying . . . LibDerp Nation.

Between you, wacky, and texags I can get full picture of MAGA. It's fascinating.
He's dead dax
I doubt it dax.
can't be true, even for one of the dumbest states in america
Yet Alabama and Auburn are approximately 60% out-of-state students, and UAB Med School gets millions more in NIH research funding than KU Med.
Kansas . . . a net exodus state.
Agree that the university of alabama is slightly better than the 2nd absolute failure state it is placed in. Maybe it should move to some where that success isn't so rare? Is that unheard of that a good school leave the garbage/spiraling into total crapstown state it is stuck in?

You seemed pretty enraged by all of this SlowDug, was it the fact that Missouri immediately followed suit on the abortion law or in Kansas (net exodus state) they assassinate abortion doctors?
Missouri, home of two of the largest public school system failures in the United States. SMDH, sad
excellent point. Have you told the US News that alabama may literally be the worst state in the union by any measurable stat but mizzou sucks and there are pothole in MO?
May be they will revisit the cold hard statistics that place alabama only slightly above haiti but below west virginia? can't hurt right?
I love that dax points to a single isolated murder of an abortion doctor as a stain against the state of Kansas. I wonder if Alabama has any objectionable homicides in its history. Hmmm.

LOL, the implication is that Kansas (comprised of mainly white people) is somehow more enlightened. A state that re-elected Sam Brownback multiple times, you know, the governor who wanted to allow state employees to opt out of dealing with those gosh darn gay and alternative lifestyle people.

Then again, Missouri is home to two of the largest failed public school systems in the country, and rankings only saved by White Flight Burb schools in KC and St. Louis.

Big wins for the ku football of states
Compared to the other states who are ranked ahead of it. Which is virtually all of them.
Freaking out at me will not change the stats. They are accurate and anyone who has ever been forced to go to Alabama can confirm by their own experience..
I think the statistical rankings are a chance for Alabama to take a long look at its obese and liver spotted self in its cracked mirror and take steps to improve. Consider it a chance to be like the biggest loser but in this case the state is literally the biggest loser but doesn't want to actually be anymore.

I love my country and when a state is so dependent on my tax dollars, I am disappointed when it and its residents are total failures at everything. I like to support winners, not the loseriest losers.

Its sad.
Alabama ranked last among the states in the education category. Its other rankings were:
23rd in the state’s fiscal stability
35th in natural environment
38th in infrastructure
45th in economy
45th in opportunity for residents
45th in crime and corrections
46th in healthcare

Congrats that your homogeneous cracker belt state is doing a little better, Dug.
So you are saying that Missouri is as fat and stupid as most of the South and joined the SEC to wallow in the same pit of sloven stupidity?
Now we have reached the stage in the meltdown cycle where dax blames all of Alabama's problems on black people
So you are saying that Missouri is as fat and stupid as most of the South and joined the SEC to wallow in the same pit of sloven stupidity?
The SE region is growing in population while Missouri is just a Rust near Rust belt net exodus state, and Kansas, is near the top of net exodus states.
Also, per the CDC Kansas is a 30-35% (Orange) Adult obesity state. Iowa is 35% plus, in fact the whole of the Cracker/Rust belt is at least 30% plus. So  at your dumb ill informed "point".

The SE region is growing in population while Missouri is just a Rust near Rust belt net exodus state, and Kansas, is near the top of net exodus states.

One reason Missouri went to the SEC: We identify more with Southern States
How does that statement fit the rest of your argument?

Glad you didn't get swept up in the tornadoes yesterday, dax.
The Alabama Board of Education voted in 1993 to prohibit yoga, hypnosis and meditation in public school classrooms. Gray’s bill says school systems could authorize yoga if they choose. Yoga done in school would be limited to poses and stretches, and all poses would have to have English names. The use of chanting, mantras and teaching the greeting “namaste” would be forbidden.
The bill still received criticism in a public hearing.
“Yoga is a very big part of the Hindu religion,” Becky Gerritson, director of Eagle Forum of Alabama, told the committee. Gerritson argued the bill is unneeded since students can do stretches now in school.
“If this bill passes, then instructors will be able to come into classrooms as young as kindergarten and bring these children through guided imagery, which is a spiritual exercise, and it’s outside their parents’ view. And we just believe that this is not appropriate.”

Alabama yoga bill stalls after conservative groups object
By KIM CHANDLER
yesterday
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama’s decades-old ban on yoga in public schools could stay in place a little longer following push-back from conservative groups.
The Alabama Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday did not advance the bill after a public hearing in which representatives from two conservative groups objected, saying they were worried it could lead to the promotion of Hinduism or guided meditation practices. The Alabama lawmaker sponsoring the bill, a former college athlete, said the bill is about exercise and not religion.
”This whole notion that if you do yoga, you’ll become Hindu — I’ve been doing yoga for 10 years and I go to church and I’m very much a Christian,” Democratic Rep. Jeremy Gray of Opelika.

The legislation failed on a tie vote but the committee chairman said he would bring the bill back for another try when more members are present.

Mississippi
Arkansas
North Dakota
South Dakota
Alaska
Montana
Utah
Idaho
West Virginia
Kentucky and South Carolina are on an equally shitty plane, with Florida close behind. Rhode Island, sneakily crap.

I can't even fathom trying to defend places like Mobile, AL as paradise compared to Missouri/Kansas, just because you miss home so damn much and you're trying to over compensate for it. :frown:
I'm perfectly, relaxed, dax. My bro lives in Monroe, LA. I've driven through Mobile many times to get to Perdido with my brother, who has a place there. Mobile is disgusting and it's not far away. I know Alabama pretty well. Which makes me laugh why you always attack your past scorn lovers so much, in a huge fit of rage. :love:I can't even fathom trying to defend places like Mobile, AL as paradise compared to Missouri/Kansas, just because you miss home so damn much and you're trying to over compensate for it. :frown:
I knew it would only be a few seconds before you'd get all :curse:, 1000% on brand for WackyTuck.
I don't live in Mobile and Gulf Shores and Perdido Beach are not Mobile.

I also think it's hilarious that MAGA bro, Clay Travis, is calling it out too.
Louisiana is also super gross as a state but nola and even baton rouge are greatAgreed. It's also why I know how gross all the states are down there. We travel to a lot of "destinations" once I land in Monroe to see my bro.
Ok, dax.
It's a conspiracy that Alabama is considered the worst state in the union.
Lol, never stop dax, never stop.

Also, dax, 91.9 road tripped to broadcast the Auburn game my last year. I saw a crap ton of the state, minus the other coastal drive. Auburn is nice tho!
I think LA has nice parts outside of NOLA/Baton Rouge. I did a bike ride through a bunch of Lafayette 'burbs and enjoyed them. There were more craft breweries than I thought and some really good local restaurants. Lafayette itself seemed potentially gross though.
And yet, I seem a bit more emotionally stable than you these days on all matters of life. Sad. :frown:Also, dax, 91.9 road tripped to broadcast the Auburn game my last year. I saw a crap ton of the state, minus the other coastal drive. Auburn is nice tho!
That's the functional equivalent of someone arriving at KCI, renting a car, rolling down I-70 to MHK and immediately concluding that the entire state sucks but MHK was pretty fun.
I've also always appreciated your drunken rage outs whenever anyone says anything mean about: KC, Royals, Chiefs

I don't blame dax for this meltdown. That poll is just devastatingly humiliating.
Dax, you should be viewing this poll as excellent news. If the rest of america things alabama is awful, that will keep people away and cost-of-living low while you can stretch out in what you know is truly paradise.
Have you guys ever watched Floribama on MTV? It's a guilty pleasure of mine. It's the perfect representation for the hillbilly south and locals around the coastal state line there.

The level of out-of-state investment in real estate in BHAM is quite high and they can't build houses fast enough around Huntsville right now.
Anecdotally next door neighbor just moved here from Texas and I made two secondary market audio purchases this past weekend from West Coast transplants. Albeit one went to school at Tulane and has ties to the area.
Picked up a pair Paradigm Monitor 7v4 and a pair of B&W bookshelves over the weekend. I also have a pair of highly tweaked Advent large, so tweaked it’s a sacrilege to the original cult of Advent Large. Also have a pair of shitty Polk bookshelves and a pair of hot garbage Sony core series towers which weren’t designed in the same manner as their core series bookshelves, which is a travesty. Very Mid-Fi right now. Was talking to a guy who was practically giving away in relative terms some fully refurbed magnapan’s but they’re so finicky that I didn’t want to deal with them right now.Dax, you should be viewing this poll as excellent news. agree on MS, ND, FL, RI, SC
the other states have redeeming natural qualities, and you don't have to interact with locals to enjoy them
60% of the enrollment at UA is from out-of-state. KU and K-State administrators would sacrifice babies to get to that point.
Yes, those are the places Alabama is pulling in students from. Absolutely brilliant. I mean nothing says Fraternity/Sorority culture like backwater Mississippi.60% of the enrollment at UA is from out-of-state. KU and K-State administrators would sacrifice babies to get to that point.
I mean if your recruiting pitch is panhandle Floridians, non atlanta georgians, and mississippians isn't the shittiness apparent? The shittiest places outside of Alabama are going to school in the shittiest place in America. Sounds about right.
Yeah, I assume the areas near the Ohio/Mississippi River confluences are interesting country minus the hillbillies, but I haven’t been there. I enjoyed the country on 2 highway along the Rock River south of Rockford. Champaign is sort of like Manhattan without the Flint Hills. It’s basically Kansas or Iowa or like every state in that most of it sucks unless you’re from there and have some attachment to it.I don't know how Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio escaped my shitty list, but they definitely belong there.Oh come on, at least put Iowa on your list you homer. I'm meh on Chicago, but you have to admit the rest of the state is woof town. Illinois minus Chicagoland is absolutely the worst, most boring state in America. I'm fascinated at how they managed to not have anyone live in like 90% of the area of the state. It's like Wyoming without mountains and Yellowstone.
My wife: let's go to Hawaii on vacation!
Me: no rough ridin' way! Have you seen The University of Hawaii's out-of-state enrollment numbers this year!?!?!?
7. North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND): 65%

Fargo is essentially in Minnesota and I'm pretty certain Minnesotans get in state tuition. I've already laid out Alabama's out of state appeal. It's mecca for the trashiest of southerners. It's the backup school for kids too stupid for ole piss, miss state, and auburn. It's also essentially west georgia/northwest florida community college.

Let's face it, people in Alabama certainly don't want an education so of course they'll have high out-of-state numbers.
Charleston, SC and Greenville, SC/Isle of Palms are great, the mountains in the Northwest Corner of the state are beautiful, and the Clemson campus next to Lake Hartwell is fantastic. The route from that area up to Asheville, NC is beautiful. That drive down from Asheville is one of my favorites. Before the trees grew up, it seemed like you could see the ocean coming down the highway.
Collectively they make a state like Iowa look like a boring AF corn filled cow patty.

IL/CA/TX - 4514/20965
NY/NJ/PA - 2300/20965
That couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that Alabama has 2 million more residents than KS :dubious:Let's face it, people in Alabama certainly don't want an education so of course they'll have high out-of-state numbers.
Looks at UA instate enrollment . . . very close to K-State's total undergraduate enrollment

Plus:
1. It's probably harder for these out-of-state students to get accepted to good schools in their home state.
2. Alabama provides a discount on out-of-state tuition.

In BHAM it's pretty much like Kansas City, WackyTuck.Do they have pro sports teams? Because my fam has box seats to all the events I love and the cats! Literally a smaller version of KC, even the City Hall's of BHAM and KC look almost identical.

Won't be long now.
Given what we know about the racial demographics and the well known obesity and dietary challenges in minority communities, pretty shocking how fat KS-IA-MO are.

did you just suggest tennessee is fatter than alabama partly because fat people from alabama leave and go to tennessee, thereby leaving the skinny folks in alabama? ok dax
it's not just nashville (i wouldn't consider a metro area of 2M in a state of 7M "a tiny part", though); there are more college students in Tennessee than in SC/LA/AL, and the eastern part of the state is sort of an outdoorsy/hipster mecca. idk, i'm not surprised TN is on the list, but worse than SC/LA/AL? come on

What skinny folks? Is skinny in alabama and mississippi, obese instead of morbidly obese?
In looking at the obesity rates and demographic numbers, it's likely that NE-IA-MO-KS might be the greatest singular collection of fat white people on the planet.
Alabama is a sack of crap but let's be real, there are worse states
Mississippi
Arkansas
North Dakota
South Dakota
Alaska
Montana
Utah
Idaho
West Virginia
Kentucky and South Carolina are on an equally shitty plane, with Florida close behind. Rhode Island, sneakily crap.

That doesn't explain why Arkansas has viewed vaccinations with less urgency than every state except the two worst ones.
I look at the CDC maps and while its true that parts of the Cracker Belt have a relatively high vaccine count, there's still plenty of Cracker Belt vax hold out counties.
So, lots of weird flexing from the resident Cracker Belters.
BTW, we're a long way away from iPOTUS Joe "the creepy whisperer" Biden's vaccine goals.
But he's declaring Covid Independence this weekend with 1000 of his best buds anyway.

As of 7/6 one of the largest gaps between white/black vaccination rates in these United/States: Iowa (KFF.org via CDC and state health departments)
The rest of the story
Let me help out here, white folks, don't ever call anyone a house n-word ever, in any context. Even if the mayor said that phrase in private, there is not a single person in the world stupid enough to think that's an excuse for a white man to call a black woman that, particularly in public, on camera.
He lost his temper and forgot where he was, there isn't a person who watched that video who thinks that's the first time he called someone a n-word or the even more offensive house n-word.
Man, old white guys.
But the rest of the story is that according to the councilman, who was in a heated debate with the Mayor. It is the the mayor who references the black council woman in that way in private conversations and apparently the wife of the mayor likes to light up social media and attribute her rants to her husband.
https://www.wbrc.com/2021/07/22/tarrant-city-councilman-uses-n-word-during-meeting-says-he-was-only-quoting-mayor/
Having had that account at one time,I can attest that the Mayor is a piece of work, to say the least.edit, I was thinking of the former mayor
Not that it has any bearing on the issue of what got said by whom during that council meeting, but the mayor says the rationale of “but he said it first” is untrue.

I don't disagree that the South has more prevalent health issues, but really?Agreed, but as you know, that graph also has a lot to do with poverty and access to medical care. It's probably pretty scary to set an appointment to have that persistent cough or gut ache checked out when you don't have insurance or can't afford to take time off from your hourly job.
The quadrangle has an average adult obesity rate of 35% to 37%. Wichita, KCMO/KCKS, Omaha - Council Bluffs, Des Moines, St. Louis are rated as some of the obese cities in these United States.

More Money Means More Time Alive
Money has become an increasingly strong determinant of who will live longer. People in wealthy counties outlive their poorer counterparts by as much as 20 years now, the greatest gap that in ages that America has seen in 40 years. In South Dakota’s Oglala Lakota county, for example, the average life expectancy is 66.8, making it the worst county in America. The median income in Oglala Lakota is $30,347, which stands in stark contrast to Colorado’s Summit County where life expectancy is 86.9, making it the highest in the country. Median income in Summit is more than 2.5x higher than it is in Oglala Lakota.
When we dive deeper than the county level, we see this relationship between money and life expectancy come into even clearer focus. Raj Chetty at Harvard analyzed 1.4 billion individual tax records between 1999–2014 and matched those to death records. His findings were alarming:
First… the gap in life expectancy between the richest 1% and poorest 1% of individuals was 14.6 years for men and 10.1 years for women. Second, inequality in life expectancy increased over time. Between 2001 and 2014, life expectancy increased by 2.34 years for men and 2.91 years for women in the top 5% of the income distribution, but by only 0.32 years for men and 0.04 years for women in the bottom 5%.
Diving deeper into the bottom five worst counties for expectancy yields some interestiing results. Four of these five counties all have Native American populations higher than 80%. The remaining county, Union in Florida, is not majority Native American, but instead is home to the state’s largest prison population. On average, none of the 31,000 people in these five counties will live past the age of 70.

not going to bother looking for it, but there was an interesting thread from the economist data guy a couple days ago on this topic. the majority (but only barely) of the difference btwn us longevity and other longevity in other high income nations was non-medical. gun deaths, auto-related deaths and illicit drug related deaths mostly affecting younger americans. if you made it to 65 in the us, your life expectancy is pretty close to the same as in other high income nations.Again, whether it's poverty or health care or drugs or guns, we as a country are making a choice to accept those young deaths or low life expectancy or however you want to classify it
obesity was another little chunk, but again there was still a good bit of unexplained variance. honestly, it was a bit unsatisfying. there wasn't a great unifying explanation.
lol, I'm not reading that, dax. My goodness.

That article the original US longevity map was lifted from also includes this, which is pretty interesting:

Whole article is interesting and worth reading:

lol, I'm not reading that, dax. My goodness.
You read it and realized that it's not 1953 in America anymore.
Congratulations for living in a country that has given you the opportunity to participate in middle class/upper middle class economic flight to the good schools and the well run cities. Where all but two people on the city council list advanced degrees in their bios, and the one person who doesn't have an advanced degree is a student at ISU. A city where 6 in 10 people are college graduates and the school system has a drop out rate of . . . 7%.

I think he basically said that affirmative action exists in universities and it works.

Oh, cool. I can't follow his two and three sentence posts, I'm sure as eff not going to try to translate a two inch block of text from that weirdo.
I also didn't read it, dax. Life's too short to read your lengthy posts.

Imagine being the author of multiple paragraph nonsensical screeds on this blog and then admitting to that.
Sad
I don’t like the message so I’ll claim I didn’t read it . . . MIR

Half of those injured were from eight states in the South, namely Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina.
My favorite episodes are the ones where Dax attempts to have it both ways. Esp. enjoyable when he doesn’t realize he’s trying to have it both ways until the 15th paragraph or soWhat am I trying to have both ways BAC?
71% of 17 to 24's in the United States would be rejected by the Army . . . the most recruits allowed to enter the Army are from the South. Those land whales down there . . . #slowdug
