Exchange City
« on: March 23, 2011, 04:56:57 PM »
Any of you elite KC kids go to Exchange City in grade school? Holy balls was that a good time. I remember being super excited when I reached 5th grade cuz thats when we all went to Exchange City.

* Learned how to write a check
* Got a ticket for walking on the grass (never paid)
* Was the Sign Shop manager
* Requested several songs from the DJamer (she was my girlfriend)

Would love to go back. Exchange City-Pak  :dunno:

Never got to go. I know several people that have though.

I would've been a bank robber.

Never got to go to the real one but we did some sort of mini exchange city in our school for a month where everyone got to pick a job and trade fake currency for goods. Since everyone got to pick there own job I was one of about 5 different bankers. I decided to differentiate myself by also dealing baseball cards on the side, made a killing until the month ended and I realized I had all this fake money that I couldnt do anything with.

Applied for DJamer, got radio station sales man and advertising announcer instead.  Was pissed at first, but was sweet job...cruise around and ask people to place ads, then give shout outs to peeps and ho's.

Judge.  Ran on a real law-and-order platform:  "the hangin' judge." Bet they wouldn't let you run on that platform today.

I was in charge of some shop.  I had two employees, an Iranian kid that ditched his work and ended up terrorizing the town (not making that up), and some other kid that couldn't do what he was supposed to do but tried really hard (probably what it's like in a real factory).  It was the most stressful day of my 5th grade life cuz I had to do everything.  I hated Exchange City.  Wish I would have understood it didn't matter.

Where is that place anyway?  Pretty cool idea, but I'm stunned it hasn't been shut down since all the dumb kids get crappy labor jobs, and all the smart kids get good jobs and stuff.  Parents don't like that crap, especially in JoCo.

FYI- the grass is really just a different color of carpet and YOU SHOULD be able to walk on it.

Balancing a check book is a very import personal finance lesson.

Damn, Exchange City was amazing.  I really feel sorry for the small town rubes that didn't get to experience this treasure!
