Before his heart "illness" I would have said the same. I just don't think he's the same dude anymore.
He landed the No. 1 transfer prospect after that, though. And I think he'll come back next year.
That's the thing, he had two first round draft picks and Hunter Dickinson this year and managed to finish 6th in the league. He will always be able to get talent, I just think his intensity/drive to win has diminished.
This is going to be an interesting next 3-5 yrs. I am not saying Bill is done, but I have a feeling his intensity is a medical choice and is the problem. Also, he doesn't seem to create coaches underneath him, so I don't know if he has a support system that he can lean on for a slow downturn or a style adjustment. For that reason, when the time does come, I expect Bill to unexpectedly retire a little earlier than thought, and claim it as a medical thing, or for him to have a couple of extraordinarily bad years and KU chase him off kicking and screaming. I may be wrong.
