about our linebackers.

Why don't any of our linebacker bodies, play linebacker?

Felder - Linebacker who added weight and now plays semi-effectively as a defensive end.

Berard - Linebacker who played defensive end at 220 or less pounds last year, does not see field this year.

Tigner - Linebacker who has never seen the field even though he possesses the best body and athleticism of any of our potential linebackers, has rotated between safety and linebacker.

Bumpas - Linebacker who has been converted to defensive end and will play there, undersized, for the remainder of his career.

It's good that Childs moved and Walker will be decent when he adds experience and some weight and Slaughter has more potential than Hrebec, but they're both little people who are not athletic.

Are you better off playing mannequins at defensive end or midgets at linebacker?

Does our system require short, slow, unathletic linebackers and light, small defensive ends?

You tell me, because I flat out don't know.

One more question: Is Arthur Brown going to gain 5 pounds and play defensive end next season?

And that no player on either team is so emotionally and mentally scarred that they fall deep into despair.

Pray that they may place their hope in the one who calls them.

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Play with joy, teams.

Kansas State Football / Something to remember:
« on: September 12, 2010, 01:40:36 PM »
When a football program is in the state that ours is, nothing is relevant except winning and losing.

Nothing.

Not giving up 450 yards to a 1-AA.

Not UCLA losing 35-0.

Not KU beating a ranked team.

All of that is absolutely meaningless, to us.

Let's hope we beat Iowa State and move on from there.

When we're 10-0, we'll start worrying about everything else.

Kansas State Football / We have 4 choices:
« on: September 10, 2010, 10:25:48 AM »
One: Give it everything we've got.

Two: Don't give it everything we've got.

Three: Give it everything we've got and know why we're giving it everything we've got.

Four: Don't give it everything we've got and know why we're not giving it everything we've got.

It's a decision of the utmost importance.

It may be predestined in a way that we cannot fully know, but I believe we still have a choice.

I wonder what decision Coach LHC Bill Snyder of Kansas State has made?

Coffman? Thomas? Mayfield? Brown? Hrebec? Sweeney? Lamur? Cantele?

 :)

“Oh, hey Chris.  Things are alright. I’ve been thinking a lot lately.”

Chris sits down next to Arthur with a plate of grilled chicken, rice and pineapple...

“Yeah?  Is there anything I can help you with?

“Well, do you think we should even be doing this?  Should we be occupying so much of our time playing football?  Is there really anything to gain?"

“That’s a good question and I don’t know if I can give you a definitive answer...”

“I know it’s a lot to spring on you at this moment...  We’ve known each other for so long...”

Arthur takes a sip of lemonade from a plastic cup, glistening with condensation...both aloofly study the table’s centerpiece, a translucent wildcat, it’s 6:23pm...

“I saw this movie once and there was this young man in it; he was English or Irish perhaps.  Anyway, he was an Olympic athlete and he said that when he ran, he “felt God’s pleasure”. I’ve always remembered that.  It seemed like a good way to view athletics.  We can enjoy things that we do, knowing that God created in us the desire for joy and that when we’re experiencing joy, He is too.”

“That's true.  I hadn't thought of it exactly like that. That helps a lot Chris, thank you very much.”

“I’m glad.  You’re welcome.”

“Tomorrow will be fun.”

“Yes. It will be fun.”

...

“This chicken is really seasoned well.”

“Yeah, it’s really good. We’ll need to stop by and thank Judy and Meredith for preparing it.”

...

“Can I have a ride home tonight?”

“Sure.”

Kansas State Football / "Good morning, Brandon. How are you today?"
« on: September 03, 2010, 12:06:34 PM »
"I'm feeling well, Collin. How about yourself?"

"I'm well, thanks for asking."

single pat on back...

"Is the offense well prepared for tomorrow?"

"Yes, I believe it is. I think we'll be able to score points in the game."

both peer out the large windows of the vanier complex, escaping for a moment as the chilled wind tickles the leaves of a birch tree...

"The defense worked very hard yesterday. Coach Latimore encouraged us to play our best."

"It's always pleasant to be tested physically in practice."

...

"Collin, let's pray."

"OK."

both bow heads in the dimly lit room...

"Lord, remind us that we are only playing a game.  Don't let us take it more seriously than we should.  Let us play with humility. Let us be good stewards towards our opponent.  If it be your will that we lose, we accept it.

The end of all things is near. Therefore let us be clear minded and self-controlled so that we can pray. Above all, let us love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Let us offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one of us should use whatever gift we've received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, we should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, we should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."

"Amen."

"I've enjoyed your company this morning. I'll see you tonight."

"See you then."

Kansas State Football / "Hey Brodrick, go deep and I'll throw you a pass."
« on: September 02, 2010, 01:42:55 PM »
"OK."

"Keep going!"

zing...

pass is caught, Brodrick jogs back, subtly dodging imaginary defenders on his way back

"Good one, Carson"

"Thank you."

"Well, I'll see you Saturday, OK?"

"OK...Hey Brodrick, what time are we supposed to be there?"

"I'm not sure. I'll give you a call."

"Oh, OK...Do you have my telephone number?"

"Uhh, I guess not. Will you write it down for me?"

"Sure."

writes

"Here you go."

"Thanks again...What's th..."

"Oh, that's a 5...375..."

"Ok, man. See ya!"

"Bye."

"Bye."

"Oh, one more thing"

"Yes, Carson."

"I hope we win."

"Yeah, me too Carson. I'd really enjoy winning."

both walk in separate ways as sun sets over Manhattan, scattered clouds crisply illuminated in the late summer sky, it's 7:49pm

I'll say (hope) 70% against UCLA.

87
But let's act like it isn't.

OK.

Sure:

Daniel Thomas will be really great.

Receivers will not disappoint, as a whole.

The Brown Brothers give us hope for the future.

We need better uniforms.

Pretty sure:

Snyder will not be as creative as he should be on offense.

Harper won't touch the ball enough.

Defense will only be average.

Harold will be our best defensive player.

Losing Joshua and Darious will really hurt.

Thompson will be a great return man.

Not sure:

Who is going to play at linebacker.

Quarterback will be really terrible.

We will win 8 games.

Kansas State Football / Things you adore about being a Wildcat!!!
« on: June 24, 2010, 01:51:25 PM »
Walking onto the streets of Dodge City, KS, USA and yelling at the top of my lungs, "It's a great day to be a Wildcat! Join Me, All!".  Then marching down Wyatt Earp Boulevard with all of my fellow cowboy Cats, singing Wildcat Victory deep into the night, eventually nestling down in a milo field. The next morning, we're all soothed back to consciousness by the sweet smell of money.
How grand it is to be a Wildcat!
