Hustling to 1st base, especially on a comebacker to the pitcher is the most overrated thing ever. Old school baseball people are so dumb. If Harper gets hurt legging out some routine groundout the Nats should suspend Matt Williams.
Also Carlos Gomez is a stud, he should keep having fun when he plays and pissing off dumb baseball people.

I live in CO, and the teams I follow aren't in this market, so I've never had an issue.. and the local Root Sports channel plays every Rockies game on TV here if I want to watch them.

However, you are in a good position to test the ZenMate extension so that our friend mocat knows whether or not to pony up for the show.

How about you actually read the post before you say something stupid like that. There is a difference between jogging and hustling it out.

I was referring to the incident, no where in my post did I say anything about you thinking he should jog it out. Get off the roids and replace them with paxil dude.
It always kind of irks me when formerly beloved Red Sox don Yankee pinstripes. It's also interesting how seldom you see the reverse, with a prominent former Yankee playing for Boston.

I've been trying.. so here's the deal, I use the MLB.TV apps on my iPhone and iPad, and usually just stream it on AppleTV if I'm home. so, I never use a browser, but I downloaded chrome and tried to start up the zenmate extension and it won't allow me to, I'm guessing cause it's an apple product. and I don't have a laptop, so tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I should do.

Quote from: Chris Carpenter"Pine tar, sunscreen, whatever… it's not there to help the ball sink, cut or do funny things. It's a tool to keep it from flying out of your hands."
Just to clear things up, it serves the same purpose as a batting glove.

Yeah everyone is aware of the purpose, it's one of the reasons why the Red Sox didn't say anything when Pineda did it last week. But when he didn't have it and got shelled in the first inning and then came out in the second like he had bathed in it, they had to say something. I really don't know why he doesn't put it on his hat or glove like everyone else does.
This could probably go in the maps thread.

Do you have to subscribe to that thing, like pay every month, or can you pay like in May then again in August? The Des Moines area is the home market for six different teams; Royals, White Sox, Cubs, Twins, Cardinals, and Brewers. It's really annoying that I miss my Red Sox home call so often. Listening to Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone two weeks ago was akin to sticking scissors in my urethra.

Leadoff double in the 8th ruined it for Ryu. Have to think the long bottom of the 7th had something to do with it. He was in the dugout a long time. Great performance, however.
(Now the Reds have knocked him out of the game with 3 in the 8th...still batting).

Not gambling for his team is essentially betting against his team, his gambling was illegal betting it isn't such a leap for him to have an agreement that stated implied or otherwise that if he didn't place a bet then the bookies are to assume that it is the same as betting against the Reds. That being said his gambling and lying had nothing to do with how he was as a player.
Why does Pete Rose want to be in the Hall of Fame so bad? He's way more famous because of the controversy than he would be for being in the Hall of Fame.

Because his entire life has been devoted to baseball, I'm sure he'd rather be involved with baseball and all things baseball hall of famers get to do instead of answering to unauthorized biographies and the subject of 60 Minutes stories.

I have a blog of awesome Tony Gwynn numbers coming soon. But how bout this: 129 AB vs. Maddux & Pedro . . . ZERO strikeouts
• He had three different seasons in which he hit .370 or higher. In the 73 years since Ted Williams last hit .400, all the other hitters who passed through the big leagues -- a group that includes Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, Willie Mays, Wade Boggs, yadda, yadda, yadda -- combined to do it only eight times.http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11092617/mlb-late-tony-gwynn-incredible-hitting-numbers (http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11092617/mlb-late-tony-gwynn-incredible-hitting-numbers)

I umpired a game where Joe Carter was the coach. If you're looking for a story about him being a huge jerk, you won't find it here because he was a fantastic guy. He was teaching his team the game, coaching, instead of yelling at umpires and kids like some of these idiot dads would do.

Wow, talk about low baseball IQ.
Pete Rose would be just as famous without the controversy. Ask just about any middle aged man who would be in there top 5 from back then and Pete Rose will come up about every time.
There's a man in my office that said he stopped watching MLB after Rose retired.
Rose had a motor that extended to all facets of the game.

I mean, if it is like a gift certificate to SAKS, some body wash, potpourri, etc. AND an autographed baseball, then it's still pretty courteous imo. But if it's like the ball, a poster, bobblehead and a pennant, then that's pretty douchey.

My reasoning has more to do with hormonal development than anything else. A properly administered steroid cycle has relatively few negative side effects associated with it. Health issues occur when the drugs are administered improperly. It's a terrible idea to start taking steroids until after your hormonal system has completely developed, which is usually much later than 18 for most males. Improper dosing and cycling is the other issue, and that comes from people not doing the proper research.
Sports are entertainment. Athletes are paid to perform at their peak physical levels for the enjoyment of others. Steroids make sports more entertaining and draw more revenue. It's pretty simple.

No they aren't. The MLB ASG is great. Always has been. It also still serves it's purpose.
that overrated chant followed by the double was rough ridin' hilarious.

All star games serve a purpose, sure, but naming all stars half way through the season is the dumbest crap someone could think of.
Who did they do that to? Jeter? Or someone from the NL? Still at work.that overrated chant followed by the double was rough ridin' hilarious.
omg yes
On a related note, why does twitter tell me so and so are talking about "beisbol de las grandes ligas" instead of "major league baseball"? This is my only alert en español
within two seconds, he cranked it stage left (that's my own baseball lingo because I don't even for sure know LF vs RF)
The MLB all star game is the only all star game that actually has any meaning in professional sport. It's rough ridin' awesome.

Yea and it's not because of the manufactured intrigue of home field advantage. It's because the players take pride in playing and want to be there.

Jeter: 2-2, double, run scored. MVP numbers? :ohno:
It's pretty sad how little I know about the NL. I mean not teams wise, but player wise.
Meh. I've always been American League heavy. Even tho I was at the first Rockies game, EVER! :love:It's pretty sad how little I know about the NL. I mean not teams wise, but player wise.
Stop getting Jeter gift baskets and watch some baseball
ABC 123Would be great initials for a closer

—If you turned every home run Bonds ever hit into an out, his career on base percentage would be .384, the same as Alex Rodriguez's.
—Bonds reached base just 330 fewer times than all-time leader Pete Rose, in 3,284 fewer plate appearances.
—Bonds made 85 fewer outs than Ken Griffey Jr. did in 1,302 more plate appearances.

Alex Gordon is pretty much the ideal player all around. Great D, good hitter, elite arm, smart baserunner, hard worker, good guy in the community, he really has only one flaw.
@robneyer: I am thrilled to report that @nwanaturals are UNIFORMLY stirrupped tonight in North Little Rock.

Meh, I am a stirrup dork, but I do think Alex somehow pulls off his 'look'. Maybe I'm just all  for him though.

You guys sound like old dorks complaining about the no-elastic, baggy pants look. Sure, most of us 25-35 probably prefer the high-socks look, but guess what. When we started pulling our pants high the old dorks from the long and tight era were boo-hooing us. Same with the mid-calf guys from the 80s before them.

Tigers absolutely have the better rotation, lot off those A's guys are also unproven in the stretch rub and the playoffs.
As a Red Sox fan I was thrilled with all of our trades, and even more happy that the Rays didn't get a damn thing for Price. It's hilarious to me that they could have had Cespedes and ended up with nothing. I'm sick of hearing about how smart their cheap ass front office is.

Lester said when it became obvious he would be traded that he'd be open to coming back to the BoSox. That said, he turned down the extension they offered during spring training because it wasn't enough money. Guessing they'd have to sweeten the pot a lot to get him back.
• One of the more amusing conspiracy theories is that Lester left the Red Sox with some sort of understanding that he will be back next year. Lester and the Red Sox were really polite publicly as this played out, saying all the right things. But behind the curtain, it was a long, tough summer.
The team’s initial offer of $70 million was far below what was acceptable in Lester’s camp, and while the Red Sox indicated a willingness to go higher than that, the left-hander all but ended the formal talks at that point. The Red Sox tried repeatedly to re-engage during the season, but Lester did not want to get involved; friends say he didn’t want to get into the back-and-forth of talks in-season without having the confidence that the Boston offer was more about signing the player than about public relations. During the weekend the Red Sox played in New York, a foray came from the team: The Red Sox would be willing to discuss a deal along the lines of the $105 million contract that Homer Bailey had signed with the Reds, but a deal in the range of what Hamels got from the Phillies ($144 million) was totally out of the question.
By then, the goalposts had moved for Lester, and a $105 million concept that might have been within range during spring training was off the table for the left-hander. There were many informal discussions between the two sides, including a Saturday night conversation on June 28 and a lengthy heart-to-heart at Yankee Stadium the next day. We reported about the talks that weekend, which were denied -- under the loose cover that there was no formal offer. But they talked, numbers were discussed, and no deal was made then or in the days leading up to his trade.
The conspiracy theory of Lester having an understanding would have to be built on an unbreakable bond of loyalty and trust. But that has to extend both ways, and when the two sides opened talks in the spring with such an enormous gap, the Lester-Red Sox relationship degraded into a business transaction -- and that’s all it will be going forward, if the Red Sox pursue Lester again.
Unless the Red Sox change their fiscal ways, writes Dan Shaughnessy, Lester is gone.
I could not agree more. It’s business, not personal, and if Boston increases its offer dramatically, he might be back; if the Red Sox don’t, there’s no chance he’ll return. Players in their clubhouse know this.

No, just a normal human eye that can see the 339 foot mark indicated on the wall. The ball went maybe 30 or 40 feet further than that. Not trying to argue with our guy mocat or anybody else but I mainly don't want that mulleted fuckface Bumgarner getting any more credit for the length of his homerun.

Former 2014 Royals update....
Shields is 7-0. He's pitched pretty decent. ERA is 3.79. He has allowed 15 HRs in 13 starts. He is getting good run support. SD giving him 6.0 runs per start
Butler is only hitting .205 with a SLUG of .263 since Apr 24
Aoki is hitting an MLB best .415 on the road. Hitting .333 overall
moore deserves a lot of credit for letting butler walk and replacing him with morales. but he's not getting the criticism he deserves for paying twice as much for super shitty alex rios as he would have had to pay adorable badass superstud nori aoki to return.

I was mostly trolling mocat MIR. Pap was the premier left handed hitter in the AL for a number of years, and his legacy as a player, especially in post season, is pretty incredible. I get why people like him.
A-Rod, well, I appreciate that outside of Bonds, he's the best baseball player of our lifetimes. But he's super weird, and super worried about his image, although that's changed in the past year. He's a weirdo.

I dont think tbs's strike zone is accurate. Most of the called strikes look like strikes to me
That was awesome!
Well, yeah! Obvi!That was awesome!
I guess, but I'd rather be watching a tied game right now
Hitting arietta was bushThey hit him on the pillow cheeks, after he hit two of theirs. I would totally agree in any other situation.
No way. Pirates might be my favorite MLB fanbase (2nd favorite obviously)

David Price's team has never won a playoff game when he is a starter. That's almost as crazy as Donaldson not having a postseason RBI in 47 ABs.
Yordano Ventura's team has never lost a playoff game when he is a starter.

How bad?
Utley just got two games, it was warranted. Baseball has some really rough ridin' stupid unwritten rules.
Dirty plays are punished in every other sport, why should baseball be an exception? I am fully in favor of this ruling. It was a bush league slide and Utley shouldn't be rewarded for it.

1. The play happens all the time, the MLB is being reactionary. If they were truly concerned about this type of play, guys would be suspended all the time.
2. The player was called SAFE by MLB officials in New York City, and not ejected from the game.
This is reactionary, but I agree with MLB's new stance. This isn't the Ty Cobb era. If they're going to protect catchers at home plate then they need to do the same with middle infielders turning DP's.Dirty plays are punished in every other sport, why should baseball be an exception? Both true, but this sets the precedent for a rule change and we'll probably now see it handled like blocking the plate.
You can't "oh by the way, that's now frowned upon, you're suspended" because a guy got hurt in the playoffs. You can't have a "new stance" on the way a game is played after 100+ years in the middle of a playoff series.
I agree he shouldn't be suspended but think it's ok if mets tee off on his dome with a fastball
I agree he shouldn't be suspended but think it's ok if mets tee off on his dome with a fastball
because 100+ years

You can't have a "new stance" on the way a game is played after 100+ years in the middle of a playoff series. The fact that it occurred in the playoffs shouldn't be a reason to give Utley a free pass. Neither should "this is how it's always been".
Do they break dudes legs weekly?
That pitcher would be ejected immediately without a warning. This suspension will eliminate some of the aftermath bullshit that goes along with a play like that.I agree he shouldn't be suspended but think it's ok if mets tee off on his dome with a fastball

Exactly

Sports and their governing bodies evolve...this was a step forward for MLB.

I agree, but that's how rules change in sports all the time. When someone gets their leg broken on a big stage the reaction is generally going to be significant.
it would be like if they suspended AROD during the 2004 ALDS for Roids. "uh by the way, NO MORE ROIDS"I don't recall ARod breaking anyone's leg by taking roids :dunno:
Societal equality? What in the eff does that have to do with breaking a dudes leg on purpose?
Regardless of if he should be suspended or not for this series that play has no place in baseball and should be severely punished going forward

NL baseball is so dumb. PH for your pitcher in the 4th inning because there's a RISP and your down 2 is a huge panic move. Almost as bad as removing your starter because of a leadoff walk...

ok, here's the favoriteness list. feel free to use it to form your own favorites.
1. pillar - dreamy eyes, distinctive nose, fast, great at diving catches.
2. goins - cute, good at defense.
3. price - played for detroit, seems nice, good at pitching.
4. revere - fast.
5. colabello - good backstory with the indy league thing.
6. martin - really good at catching, fast for a catcher.
7. hendriks - former royal.
8. kawasaki - does funny stuff in the dugout and on gifs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ below this line, the players are not liked.
9. navarro - kinda sloppy looking (out of shape).
10. dickey - dunno, doesn't let people steal, maybe? dunno, just don't like him.
11. encarnacion - only thing he does is that stupid parrot thing. no personality.
12. bautista - seems like he takes himself pretty serious. stretches too much.
13. tulowitzki - always hurt or walking around like he's gonna be hurt, face is narrow, white guy with a line in his hair.
14. donaldson - see mocat, he's got a better list than mine.
any player not listed is neutral (right on the dotted line).
i was going to take take bautista off the hate list too, but sys' reasoning is "stretches too much" and i can't argue with thatyeah he does stretch an awful lot. maybe i don't like him as much as i thought.

Plus Ventura doesn't like Bautista. If you can't even get along with Yordano Ventura, then you probably have some personality flaws.

yes, I liked it. ty
Hate the list. Munenori and Bautista are amazing humans. I also like Dickey and Encarnacion. Revere and Tulo, also cool. I hate David Price, like a lot, he's what steffy would call, a bitch. I don't really like Russell Martin but acknowledge that it is unreasonable just because he played for the Yankees, he's also take baseball serious guy. Everyone else, meh.David Price's gf is a K-Stater, so that's good enough for me.
Okay, those much more knowledgeable then me explain why it was bad for Ethernet to catch that foul ball. Or that's what Twitter is saying. Not necessarily bad, but by catching it he essentially traded an out for a run. If he let it drop and then the batter struck out or couldn't get a sacrifice then it's worth it. If he let it drop foul and then the batter made a hit it would be worse (you would still give up the run and have one less out). It's a tough call. Personally, I have my team catch it I think. In baseball there only a finite number of outs, and its best (IMO) to get them when you can.

Mets look very blue collar'y, is that the case chings?Dunno if I would go that far.
Mets/Cubs improves the AL chances of winning WS, right?Reduced it by half actually.
Happy for all of family in NY. Let's Go Mets Go!
they are 7-0 vs the mets cf3. i know that can be misleading, but they already beat deGrom twice. it's really hard to go 7-0 vs a team.
BUT like i said before, the playoffs are super random and the mets could win in 7 or something. they do have home field
Also read this book, it's amazing. Pun intended.

I heard an interview with Curt Schilling yesterday and he doesn't think the playoffs are random because it's the only time when all of the players are totally locked in to every pitch of every at bat.

so he thinks it's fair to judge an entire season based on just a few crazy games in october? weird
i wouldn't say it's "random." but a lot of it seems like it's more odds based, relative to other sports.
i love sports stats, and predictive analysis. but one of the things i hate about it is the devaluing of the actual results.that's a very interesting perspective. i think i'll adopt it.
actually, maybe that places too much blame on stats. there's always been this idea that championships should be won by the best team, or its converse that whichever team wins a championship is the best team.
both are not only Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), but i find them almost offensive. sports is about momentary, fleeting achievement. if a bad team can achieve beating better teams, i find that thrilling.

Agreed, the nature of the sport doesn't change. It's the absolute best teams just playing a shorter season. People try to act like winning the World Series is akin to winning the NCAA tournament. There isn't a single world series champion since the advent of the wildcard that won because of being lucky. Even when that Mariners team who set the wins record lost to the Yankees, there isn't anyone in the world who believed that Mariners team were better than the Yankees.

It's cute to have the bullpen down the line like a high school field.
Cubs must be setting up for their our version of a come back from 3 games down to win the series a la Red Sox 2004.

na. that was a seasoned team that had come close the year before, and added Schilling. This is over.
The Cubs, along with the Astros, have a lot of young talent and should be good going forward, but that Jon Lester contract is going to haunt them.Yeah, they are actually about one or two years ahead of schedule.

Well, these 3 games by the Cubs are uncharacteristic, they are good. However the Mets don't have any BP pitchers like we've seen the last 2 games in Toronto, and will get a quality start every night. Over a game, or even a 5 game series, the Cubs power would scare me, but over a 7 game series a team that can get a quality start every night scares me more. Cubs is better matchup for a Royals parade

going into the playoffs last year, everyone was afraid of the royals, remember? well this year it was the winner of the cubs/pirates game. and the cubs showed it by mopping up the cardinals. so i am a little surprised at the cubs looking like losers vs the mets. why are they so good all of a sudden? cespedes and murphy being on fire i guess.
have you ever seen d'Arnaud's batting stance? i have no idea how he ever gets a hit. he holds the bat handle way out in front, with the bat head straight up in the air, leaning slightly back towards the catcher. so weird.
I mean, the Cubs are a good team, but it was hard to see them winning the series after losing a game that Arrietta started. They needed great starts in the cold by Lester and Arrietta and didn't get it.
I bet 4 run isn't enough...
Oh well...

BITB is all up in my head on this. I get that this is sort of his thing, but every time he gets this confident about a team in the area they fall flat their face. I've seen it play out enough times to know how the story ends.
I understand.
But nothing, you, me, BITB or Cf3 does is ever going to change the outcome* of Friday's or Saturday's (if necessary) games.
*Unless one of us goes Nancy Kerrigan on David Price or something crazy like that.

hey townie, since you believe unicorns and BITB can impact the game, I'll take this as a sign we're going to win tomorrow.

Damn that's amazing work by Price's agent.
that is unbelievable to me
Serious question... Will Price even make 217 regular season starts over the next 7 years?
that is unbelievable to me
why?
the 4 years / $124m of player option part
the 4 years / $124m of player option part
i don't think it's much worse (actually prolly better) than a straight 7/215. if he exercises the option, the red sox get price's presumptive best three years and avoid his presumptive worst four. there is no more risk than with a straight 7 year contract.
it's only worse for the team (compared to a straight seven year contract, obviously it is worse than a straight three year contract) if you think that price's last four years will have more value than 31/year - which would be a pretty great outcome for boston, if it happened.
Heyward to the Cubs... Theo is building a monster.

i only watched four cubs games last year and they looked completely awful. couldn't believe it when you guys told me they're actually good. baseball is so weird

i don't really care to debate it, but i think you're wrong. the only reason some other fan base wouldn't give him twitter hate is he's not as well known as he is in this area.
as far as his tweet, i don't remember what the wording was, but either way it was an incorrect statement.

Yeah, plenty of them. I would guess one that hadn't won in a generation would be among that group.
Correct me if I'm wrong but did he say the Royals were lucky or that the Mets were better and blew it. I never saw a quote or tweet that called the Royals lucky.

if you're implying that there are fan bases of sports teams without super sensitive twitter fans who freak out over every perceived slight, then you've never been wronger.
there are certain things all fan bases have. but royals fan culture is about partying and voting omar infante to the all star game, cards fans are about RESPECTING THE GAME!!!! Its the "respect the game" culture that sets cards fans apart.

Of course every fan base has unreasonably sensitive fans, but the gottlieb thing seemed to be a large percentage of the fan base. But forget all of that. The fact that one of you didn't even know what he said and was mad about it and the fact that you used the term "Royals fan culture" without the least bit of irony absolutely proves chingon's point. We can close the conversation now.

The Joe Buck thing was the most embarrassing thing as a Royals fan. And yes I said Royals fan culture, all fan bases have a culture and a bit of a group identity, dunno why you'd take exception to that. I'd use that phrase when discussing KSU fans, Chiefs fans, Wichita St fans, whatever....
Joe Buck is awful. If that makes me a brown poster for hating him, then so be it. He sucks and I'd rather have someone else on the call.

I mean, we're discussing this with a Red Sox fan, they definitely have a culture
So this looks like "we deserve this because we do things the right way but no one loves us but you really really should love us."
I'll backtrack a bit on fan culture. Sure fans do have a culture but I think the culture is more defined in fan bases that are more regional than national. I think for Red Sox and Yankee fans if you live in Kansas you're likely to have a much different impression of what a Red Sox fan who has spent his whole life living in the midwest than one who grew up in southie. Strangely enough, well it isn't strange the history of the two franchises dictate this, but Red Sox fans in New England are impatient people who hate everyone and everything and are never satisfied. However, Yankee fans that I know from NY are always confident that they will win the world series and every single signing is the best signing. I have found though that Red Sox fans outside of New England are generally happy with any and everything but Yankee fans outside of NY are impatient and have a chip on their shoulders.
actually the front-loaded/back-loadedness of the different contracts would also dramatically change their values, so we probably can't make any assumptions on the value of the opt outs (for that matter, the stl and wash contracts may have had opt outs as well).
I know, but I wanted him.
I think the nets are great
Yea I hate that common sense has gone out the window and they have to add netting because of it. If you have close seats pay attention to the rough ridin' game. If you have children, either don't sit close or teach them to pay attention to the rough ridin' game.

the Bautista slide has nothing to do with player safety. it's interference. he tried to grab the dude's leg to mess up his throw. no different than interference on the part of a batter trying to mess up a catcher's throw. i don't get why people are trying to make it about player safety like the Utley slide.

Arrieta!
Back to Bonds vs. Griffey.
You could make the argument that playing Gold Glove CF is more valuable than playing Gold Glove LF. It's probably a winning one, but it's not enough to make Griffey a more valuable player than Bonds. They were both 5-tool (both had good arms, but not elite). Griffey was never better than Bonds tho.
all gross, no soap
I bet RJ has him
Since I'm here I've been dying to have a conversation about Jake Arrieta, anyone interested?I don't have strong opinions about him but sure.

20 K is more incredible than a perfect game IMO.
I've followed about the fifteen minutes of arrieta they cut into the royals game during that no hitter, but what the eff is up with your bats this year mir? seems like double digit runs every outing so far
Hadn't considered roids for arrieta, but he certainly got more muscular and hairy. What do roids do for pitchers? I would assume fastball velocity but maybe it allows for better recovery between starts allowing for better control too?
One feat has happened 23 times, the other only 5 times. And perfect games usually have a couple of remarkable defensive plays to bail the pitcher out.20 K is more incredible than a perfect game IMO.
Denied. A 20k game doesn't mean the pitcher got everyone out. A perfect game does. Perfect is perfect.

Kinda cool tho
I'm all for anything that makes June baseball more fun.Yeah, me too. Pitchers being good hitters in the mlb is cool to me. They've gotta perfect their craft, so there's little time for it, so when they can hit too, i'm mesmerized by it.
He's being a bad teammate. I'm sure there is a position player that would love those 4 AB's instead of sitting on the bench. That shitty bench player hasn't accounted for the amount of wins that bum has attributed to. He can sit his ass on the bench and let bum do what bum wants to do.

I get that MadBum is a very good hitter for a pitcher, but choosing to let a guy batting .175 avg and .650 ops take your DH spot is stupid and arrogant.
Thanks bones, i needed to hear that to calm my nerves
Him hitting well does not justify it. Should he be the DH for all AL games?
Drew Butera has an amazing 0.00 ERA with an impressive 9.0 K/9 ratio. should he be starting instead of ventura, wacky?Good grief, no, dork. Why are so many of you upset that I think it's cool a pitcher can hit? :curse:
I think the concern has to be if the plate appearances effect his pitching. He hit ok but pitched worse than usual (still not a bad outing for anybody but the elite).

Well, he bats every time he pitches in NL parks, so I don't think they should affect his pitching much.

Regardless of the outcome, Showalter should be fired because Britton isn't in the game
Pitching your best pitcher in a tie game in the 9th and later against the opponent's best hitters is far from wasting him. A save isn't more valuable than keeping the game going. In the ninth he should have pitched to Donaldson leading off, and he definitely should have pitched once there were men on first and second and nobody out. You have the best reliever in baseball, and he gets to watch the highest leverage spots because some old school manager wants to keep him waiting for a save situation that may never appear.Regardless of the outcome, Showalter should be fired because Britton isn't in the game
Why? If he pitched him in the ninth and tenth they would have wasted him. I do think Showalter should have walked Encarnation in the 11th and brought in Britton with one out and the bases loaded.

 I said he should have used him. My argument was simply that I understand why he didn't use him in the 9th, and it turned out not pitching him in the 9th was the right decision. I feel pretty much exactly how the authors of those two fangraphs articles feel. There was definitive logic on how Buck used the pen in the ninth and the tenth, kinda, O'day was questionable. The longer he went and the worst the pitcher used made it more inexcusable.
Freaking out about him not coming in the ninth doesn't make sense because it's kind of arbitrary. Why not freak out when he didn't come in after Tillman was lifted or at any point in the 6th, 7th, or 8th? If he brought Britton in for a perfect 7th and 8th and the Orioles won in the 10th we'd still have dorky seamheads playing the result.
Chings sorry bud. That is frustrating.Yeah, Mets never can get a good closer. Familia should never wear a Mets uniform again after tonight.
Time for Terry to go too. Sigh, going to need to blow a lot of this up.
I find enjoyment thinking that rn on a Mets blog some Mets fan named MetsMob or something and they are going nuts on clutch related posts

Marco Hernandez isn't fast enough to steal third, also and I know this is foreign to Royals fans, but that dude at the plate was a bona fide home run hitter.
Today's pitching matchups
Johnny gets another chance to exorcise his postseason road demons. he pitched in wrigley just 1 month ago and went 7 IP 1 ER

Cf3 good call Re: Boston sweeping
MIR, what gives? Price is so effing bad in the playoffs it's unreal, and he's getting too old to have an attempt at redemption
I've been checking into these things quite a bit. Baseball can be pretty fun when the games mean something. They should really cut out like at least 100 games from the regular season
screw you cubs!

apparently baseball is a really stupid game when you don't play it 2015 royals style.
my immediate work is with predominantly italian americans and i have yet to meet a rizzo.
i guess the reason no one ever talks about what medium speed do is because it never does anything.

That whole team is just so hateable tho.i am fully on board the blue jays train :blindfold:Me too mocat, the world needs bat flips
These motherfucking guys are shitting on Maddon for going to Chapman in the eight. This is the crap I talked about last week with Showalter, rough ridin' baseball guy always has the right answers playing the rough ridin' result. It's infuriating, rough ridin' hypocrites.
If the giants had to draw a walk and steal and sac bunt to get their runs this game might have taken two days. I'm happy this postseason has teams that play the game the way it was meant to be played.
i am fully on board the blue jays train :blindfold:

Nice job Ryan lafbevrve for 3
are the dodgers the team that Andy guy I never unfollowed is always tweeting about?
who do we have going in Game 5 on the hill Kim
our Kellis is Rustin, and the Dodgers have Puig and Adrian Gonzalez and an amazing stadium. why am I not 100% Dodgers again? sheesh
what team gets to kick the cubs' dicks in?
The Dodgers are sexy af in every way but they suck in the postseason. They are the complete opposite of the Wisconsin badgers basketball team

stupid coach or what?
Their main problem is kershaw gets a case of the Prices in the postseason
can we talk about the fact that we have to wait until thursday and that the game is at stupid 4pm?
any of you posters that are americans will be rooting for the team from our great nation's capital, as i will be.

can you imagine a WS between these two blue bloods? a booth visit during the top of the 4th between Denny and Vin? wow
lets leave soria out of this fantasy
True story, I went to a game at dodger stadium one time
The dodgers have taken out half of their lineup
We showed a lot of heart tonight
the NL teams left are infinitely sexier than the AL teams
I would like to see a Cubs - Jays series with the Cubs demolishing their stupid Canadian faces but Joey Bats still has like 8 home runs.
Here's what needs to happen:Kim you are wise.
1. Dodgers sweep the Cubs
2. Dodgers sweep whatever gross team comes out of the AL
maybe the 3rd time you post it someone will laugh with you tbt!
First of many K's for joey buttface

There will be a new day and eventually a new year. And when the upcoming winter gives way to spring, rest assured, once again it will be time for Dodger baseball.
zobsie looks really stupid in a cubs uniform.
Joe Blanton is a rough ridin' loser also
I may set Brock Landers' account on fire, literally. What do you guys think?
Kershaw is mowing them down
kershaw is going to need to pitch 2 more times for the dodgers to hve a chance.
Clayton
Hahahahaha Brock stupid face!

Lackey mouthing "are you rough ridin' kidding me" coming out of the game in the fifth was pretty great.
It's sad that the Dodgers have to rely on Joe Blanton in an nlcs game, like we literally just let him walk and he's #2 or 3 in their bullpen
That being said, the Cubs breed losers so anything could happen, but ya they've basically already won
kershaw is such a dodger.
Brock landers is quickly establishing himself as the biggest loser on the board
The Cubs are probably the best team of our lifetimes. Sucks. They should win at least 2 more WS after they win this one with this core of talent.

k let me say it differently. The Cubs have a core of young talent, combined with really really good pitching, and their young position players still have upside. I can't remember very many teams looking this promising to be good for a long time.
you can't pick your family and you can't pick your american league champions.

Glad to see him out of the game, maybe the Cubs can actually do something against their pen.

Lets go Tribe.
I'd be pretty pissed if I were on the Cubs and all season me and the other players worked to get here and then in the WS everyone just obsesses about Scwarber
are there any lights in that shithole
I looked up who the tribe are losing to free agency next year and it was very sobering as a royals fan.
Two times the legal limit to what? Be a person on a boat?
It hasn't been stated he was driving the boat
The fact of the matter is it was a horrible tragedy, there is nothing more to it then that. Whoever was driving wasn't paying attention to the GPS that tells you where stuff is on the water.

Lol at Cleveland and anyone who roots for them. What an absolute crap hole of a franchise. Other than Lindor and Crisp they're all gross.
There are like a million Cubs fans there tonight. WTF Cleveland?!?
'Sup
The die hard Indians fans who didn't sell their tickets have to be sick. Their fans sold out to Cubs fans in droves creating a non-home field situation, and then you get crushed.
There was no reason to take out Hendricks
The sad part for the Cubs is that once the win the World Series, they go back to being just any other team. No more fashionable lovable losers schtick. They basically turn in to the Red Sox. Big market, high payroll, crappy "nostalgic" stadium, Theo Epstein...

2015 mlb baseball in a nutshell: the cubs were winners and everyone hated them.

:sdeek:
I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate Chris Sale. I was so happy when it was reported last week that we were out of the sweepstakes. He is a crybaby, a cancer, 100% me guy. About every three years or so the Sox sign one of these douchy guys who I abhore; Schilling, Wells, Lackey, Gomes, and this douche falls right into pattern. It really makes it hard to fully enjoy my team.
Gomes is the one I don't get. He's a super douche/weirdo. He made one great speech and everyone wants to glorify him now. He was an average baseball player as well.
Schilling was a stud, do you hate him for his political views? Wells crushed beers and then threw gems. Absolute adorable stud. I get Gomes, he's a douche, but you must hate winning games.
I was trying to think of successful royals I wasn't very fond of. Blanton was a whiny bitch who hated to go against his past lovers. Obviously Soria. All shitty players come to mind unfortunately. I guess I grew tired of Mike Sweeney, because he's all we had, and people built him up for it. Billy Butler was your wells. What a goober.
So to get it straight, MIR is bummed about his team clearly becoming the best team in the AL for the next three years AND hates this guy:

I don't hold Royals fans  of this moment against you guys because of the obvious euphoria but this was roundly mocked by non-royals fans and if he did this for lets say the Indians, you'd be mocking him too. Given his role on that team he had no business with that mic in his hands, of course Gomes being Gomes he hijacked the moment.
MIR, a lot of people thought Manny Ramirez was a "me-first" guy and didn't like him. I always thought that was stupid because he was the best right handed hitter in the game for time. That's how I feel about Sale. And yeah I know Sale is more whiny but still.
i don't understand why everyone is wanting to speed up the most wonderful, slow paced, thing on earthPeople's attention spans have turned to mush in today's society (especially social media). Sad, but true.

Hey Beethoven, your 5th symphony really cuts into my videogame and snapchatting time. Can you maybe cut out 2 movements and also those really famous four notes at the beginning? Just play one of them and point to 1st base instead.
 I also don't like the new intentional walk thing as well. Permission to tell a story of why? It relates to an awesome little league story of mine that sent us to state. Please cf3?
Has he played more than like 10 games since recording the final out of the '14 World Series?
So Sammy Sosa :sdeek:Is this in regards to him becoming a white man and/or a vampire? That happened a long time ago.
The Red Sox just DFA'd that SOB Pablo Sandoval. They still owe him $41M thru 2020 :sdeek:
Ts & Ps, MIR.
http://m.mlb.com/glossary/rules/field-dimensions
Do what you want with the fence size. Hell, make a dumbass hill so ppl can get hurt if you want.
The specification on minimum park dimensions was put into place due to the stadium controversy surrounding the Brooklyn Dodgers' move to Los Angeles in 1958. The Dodgers played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum while Dodger Stadium was being built, but the Coliseum was not designed to hold baseball games. The Coliseum's left-field fence was roughly 250 feet away from home plate and the club had to erect a 40-foot-high screen to protect against short home runs. The specification is not strictly enforced, however, so long as teams do not build parks that egregiously violate the rule. For example, Petco Park opened in 2004 and is officially 396 feet in center field, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards opened in 1992 and is 318 feet down the right-field line.
Some Wichita St player made a catch like that probably 10-12 years ago
Amazing that baseball is the stat-geek sport when the same routine hit could be a single, double, hr, or caught ball solely depending on the park

The real issue with the Nationals is shamelessly stealing the Walgreen's "W" for their logo.

Looks like he smells bad
Nothing would warm my heart more than Houston forcing a game 7 and then losing a close one at home to seal their fate.My lord that is delicious
Cubbies are still alive! :cool:He is throwing absurd amount of pitches for the fact that he is a closer
Wade Davis's shoulder was probably about to burst into flames.

I haven't figured out who to root for yet. I think the Dodgers. I just can't stand the Astros.I love George Springer... The 'Stros just seem to have so much fun. The Dodgers are just the west coast Yankees.

I like the design it just seems as if some of the facilities are outdated. The K is easily the superior ball park but the way they have you enter the stadium is odd.Dodger Stadium is an absolute shitholeWent to a game there this summer and yeah it is, but it is a neat stadium as it sits on top of a hill in northeast LA that over looks the city.
Disagree on the shithole thing. There are definitely parts of the stadium that are showing their age but its not a monolith. In terms of architecture/design if you don't like dodgers stadium then you don't like the K - they are the two best examples of modernist design in american ballparks.

Yeah the stupid Cubs didn't unleash their ultimate weapon.
Out of all the other teams in the NL Central I don't have any hate towards Milwaukee and former Royals bros makes them pretty likeable.
omg, i didn't realize he was still in the game. He’s there until they end unless they pinch hit Hendricks for him or something. No more position players left.
also pride of Osage City, KS Blake Treinen having an unbelievable year as closer for the A's

RIP Bill Buckner :frown: I grew up watching him play for the Cubs and he even played for the Royals for a couple of seasons!! Oh yeah he also played in the 1986 World Series and Red Sox fans had a contest to see who could be the biggest bad person.
You were there? Cool. Bless Trent Grisham's heart, feel awful for him. Hader probably gives up another hit anyway.Really tough hop for Grisham. From seats in LF I thought it went just under his glove routinely, but this looks nasty.

the pitch hit him in the foot and every credible person that has weighed in on it has said that it was obviously not intentional but people love the drama. I'm sure once april gets here there will probably be a few brush backs for any current astros players that were on that 2017 team, regardless of whether or not they participated in the clicker/trash can banging stuff.

There have been several baseball players threatening to or saying someone else should hit the Astros. It's incredibly dumb, even more so given that they all cheat; sign stealing, bull frog using, ped pumping, greenie popping, head hunting, hypocrisy machines.

the a's guy running into the astro's dugout was great (but it didn't happen this week)
So I’ve gotten back into the sports card hobby a bit. How good are these Tatis and Luis Robert fellows? Their cards are absolutely on fire.

The (likely?) GOAT plays a little further north in California. Tatis is phenomenal though. The White Sox traded him for a washed up James Shields LOL.
They are similar for sure. Trout debuted a bit younger. Betts is great, but wasn’t great until quite a bit older than Trout or Tatis Jr.So I’ve gotten back into the sports card hobby a bit. How good are these Tatis and Luis Robert fellows? Their cards are absolutely on fire.

His early plate numbers are similar if not flat better than Trout. I don't know about his fielding though. Unless of course you're calling Mookie Betts the goat then yeah, I agree that Tatis won't be as good as Mookie.

I hope Tatis keeps it up, he’s so fun to watch. He’s pretty average defensively, he’ll probably move to 3rd, and I doubt he ends up on the level of Trout and (below him) Betts.
Between Tatis, Acuña and Soto there is some exciting, great young talent in baseball right now.

I was going to comment that MLB names are very traditional, but if you go back 2 of the last 3 "new" names are Diamondbacks and Devil Rays, which are kind of minor leaguey, I think. (also part of why they went to just Rays?)

Both are animals found in the area of the team that they are named for. They dropped the devil for the dumbest reason ever. Their new owners wanted to rebrand, which is fine, but they wanted to exercise the devil from their franchise when they brought the team, as they were historically shitty when they were sold.

There could be a 25 page thread about the A's stadium possibilities over the last 25 years, but they've been pushing for this guy the last 2 years. Made some adjustments with each new announcement.

7 really good innings and then right on queue they poop their pants. McNeil looked really good at the plate just was unlucky. I love/hate this stupid teamThat bullpen is still poop.

I am getting concerned about the sloppy play of the infielders, especially up the middle where we should be stronger.
Lindor will start hitting I am sure, but his ABs so far haven't looked great.
Well more bc of the blown call. Conforto 100% threw his elbow out to get hit by strike 3. I know it’s not reviewable whether or not the player leaned into the pitch but it felt like a dirty way to winI've watched a lifetime of rough ridin' Cardinals players lean into Mets pitches that I am pretty numb to it.

Chili fired!
to improve morale one of the players (they won't say who) showed up calling himself Donnie Stevenson. (Dom Smith might be the obvious choice b/c same initials, but my theory is that it was Pete Alonso b/c Pete is a silly goose). Anyway, not much is known about Donnie other than his favorite song is Takin Care of Business and his hitting philosophy is "rippin' heaters".Thanks. I saw the shadowed out version of Donnie on the Mets broadcast and assumed that was the gist of it. Also please refrain from further slander of Royals legend Chili Davis
Ever since Donnie showed up they have started to actually score some runs so that's cool. Lindor is the only one who is still white hot dog crap at the plate, Pete has shown the most dramatic improvement but really everyone not named Francisco Lindor is hitting a lot better.
Probs part of the reason Chili got fired...when one of the players decides to take over being the hitting coach and immediately they get dramatic results...doesn't surprise me that Chili was in the hot seat.

CHINGON! HOLY crap!It was glorious. But Diaz really really tried to give me heart attack.
DID YOU SEE THAT PUERTO RICAN FLAG CELEBRATION!
WE ARE ALL METS!
LET'S GO METS!
That game was a fever dream. Those are a lot more fun when your team isn't playing in then but a team you hate is.It was an amazing non playoff baseball series.
Rojas fired as mets skipper yesterday. i'm fine w/ this decision. the firepower he had this year, and how mediocre the NL east was...wildcard should have gotten his seat warm, but 8 games under...yeah, time to go.Yeah. Nice guy, but heads had to roll. I'm ready for a post Sandy era, but who knows what that will bring.

I'd love to do the following (but likely won't happen):
Re-sign Javy agree he is fun and its fun to watch him and Lindor together
Re-sign Stro strongly agree
Re-sign Loup strongly agree
QO Conforto sure. he seems kinda ho-hum about staying here, wouldn't be surprised if he went elsewhere. Love his defense but when he gets on a cold streak...
QO Thor who? oh yeah. that guy i haven't seen throw a ball in like 2 years. Sure. Even if his velocity is down I think he's better than half the regular starters
Keep Villar at third unless magic happens i don't think we have any reason to think we'll get a better 3B so yeah that's cool. If its Villar or Davis I'll take Villar
The following players should not be starters:
Dom Smith if the NL gets the DH next year then I'm fine with Dom at 1st and Pete DH, the difference level between Dom and Pete at first isn't much. One of my favorite things about Pete at 1B that he didn't do much this year is on a pickoff when he would pretty much just club the runner in the face when trying to swipe tag even if the runner was safe by a mile he'd do it anyway and im like well that's a little dirty but its also fun to watch
McNeil yeah, his best quality was his ability to put the ball in play, and i can't even count the number of times this year we had a guy on 3rd, less than 2 hour and jeff couldn't get him home. pathetic. if he keeps hitting like he did this year then i think he'd be a great addition to the benchmob
McCann meh, him and nido are interchangable to me. McCann has a slightly better arm but Nido strikes out way less.
Pillar i like him in left. better than Dom or Jeff. Depending on what happens w/ Conforto we might not have other options
Davis benchmob
Lose from the pen:
Familia yeah he's washed up. we'll always have 2015 right up until but most definitely not including the WS
Hand b y e
Castro i'd get rid of Diaz before Castro. The other Diaz. Not that i've been particularly impressed with Edwin but he looked better this year than his previous time in a mets uniform
My rooting order for this playoffs:
Dodgers
Brewers
Giants
Rays
Astros
White Sox
Cardinals
Braves
Red Sox
Yankees

@sys i just discovered terrance gore plays for Atlanta
Yeah, it was pretty damn bad. Ump got caught up. He would have struck out on the next pitch anyway.

feels dirty rooting for the braves after they left gore off the roster, but the dodgers must lose.

Are you a Giants fan? I was cheering for the Giants in the NLDS but I can't cheer for the Braves because I don't like Joc Pederson.
i hate the houston and boston ballparks. they should move the fences back, like, a hundred feet, in both.
there's one tiny point in the middle where a fly ball can hit the ground. otherwise every pop up is a coin flip home run or out.
Boston sports teams are so annoying, and the Red Sox are the annoyingistUnpopular: I want the WS to be Boston vs. Atlanta, and I want Atlanta to blow a 3-0 series lead.

Had to try to manufacture runs, they had 2 hits at that point, you can't just wait for a two run homer when the team had 3 runs in 27 innings.

It's going to be hard seeing Max Scherzer pitching for the Mets against the Nationals this year....but we're in rebuild mode down here in DC. In Soto we Trust!i disagree i think its actually going to be a lot of fun seeing Max in the orange and blue!

Max was a lot of fun to watch here in DC. Hopefully he doesn't do to the Nats like Daniel Murphy did to the Mets when he was around here. There are lots of former Mets who are famous for beating the crap out of the Mets when they play again. Murph and Justin Turner have turned it to an art form. Let's get Freddie too!!signed 6 yr deal with the dodgers. Not looking forward to having to knock them off in the NLCS this year
It's a W!
Didn't like Pete getting hit in the face though.

Buck Showalter was being a huge bitch last night which isn't surprising because Buck Showalter is a huge bitch. Very likeable team with a very unlikable manager, biggest crybaby OAT. It's like the White Sox or the Astros in reverse.

i mean...in 2 games he's had 3 guys get hit above the shoulders. I'd be mad as hell too that the opposing teams pitchers can't control their stuff and were hitting my multi-time all star players in the face. (any of my players really, but especially the all stars). I think mets players got hit above the shoulders maybe 3 times total last season. Watching the blood gushing from Pillar's nose still gives me chills.
I don't know how to feel about it. On the one hand i understand that players are going to get hit by pitches, and i also understand sometimes those HBPs are going to be a little scary. And i get that part of the game is needing to keep hitters a little bit afraid. If hitters knew they were always safe then everyone would do like Anthony Rizzo and crowd the plate, and if you try to throw him inside he's already looking in and is ready to turn on it.
On the other hand, the really scary thing about it is that its abundantly clear those plunks were accidents, but instead of a guy losing his breaking pitch, he's throwing his gas but doesn't have very good command of it. Seems shitty that a guy could have his career (or at the very least his season) ended because the pitcher isn't good enough to command his pitches.
Dodgers pulled Kershaw in the middle of a perfect game. Baseball has lost its soul.
There is a lack of stewardship of the game by a lot of baseball people. Here is another example
He’s also thrown a no-hitter before. So you’re not taking away something he’s yet to accomplish. Still sucks as a fan watching a game with a no-hitter and the pitcher gets pulled. There is a lack of stewardship of the game by a lot of baseball people. Here is another example
lol, this dude is MLB's Mister Glass. He hasn't thrown over 80 pitches in almost a year, and he had little to no spring training. If you're him, his manager, his teammates, his trainer, his agent, his family, are you worried about his arm or some nebulous idea of stewardship?
It's hilarious that everyone, other than the people who should care the most, feel the most aggrieved.

It wasn't even just a no-no it was a perfect game he had in tact. If it was a no hitter when he got pulled I don't think it would have been as big of a deal... There were like 4 of them last year. I think they said there have only been something like 24 or 27 perfect games in the history of mlb

I feel like Clayton Kershaw has done everything you could want to get our of your career as a pitcher (no hitter, Cy Young and World Series). A perfect game would build his legacy even more. However, I'm sure Mir or one of these other guys will come back with how it could prevent him from climbing all-time lists for K's or Wins or something.

AmazingI need a different word. Amazing won’t cut it.
Chicago was ahead 8-2 on Cleveland going in to the top of the 9th inning. They are currently in the 11th inningThe dude who hit the 2-out grand slam to tie the game in the top of the 9th hit a 3 run dinger in the top of the 11th
Angels have a no hitter in tact going in to the 9th. Also winning 12-0 so Tampa might not be putting up much of a fight
question for anyone reading this thread (but mostly CHONGS):
what team do you hate the most?
In general i take the position that i hate every other team in the NL east the most, but i was watching the phillies and dodgers game the other day and couldn't believe it but i actually wanted the phillies to win. maybe i hate the dodgers the most.
You might think a mets fan would say the yankees is the team they hate the most but i just don't have the energy anymore to hate a team we are only going to play like 6 games against in the regular season.

I will always hate the Cardinals, Braves, Phillies, and Yankees. But Yankee hate is not nearly as strong as my NL hates. I also must admit to some residual Giants hate as well, but it's pretty latent.

Yankees. Mainstream media has really got me to hate the Astros lately, too.
I like Jose Altuve to much to hate the Stros.
Reds pitched a no hitter and lost. That's awesome.

MLB is broken. The batters can't hit these pitchers w/ the spinrate and the way they use the bullpen.

We have a lot of fast dudes.
chongs what do we do about Max being out the next 6-8 weeks? I am not confident Peterson alone is going to hold things over. If Tylore only misses a couple of starts then maybe we just hold serve and hope for the best, but my gut is telling me we might need to offer up JD or Dom to get a good top of the rotation guy. I would miss Dom a lot more than JD. Not to mention there are a lot of big series happening in the next 6-8 weeks that would just really suck if we didn't have an ace available. I mean crap just looking at the entire month of june...even if we did have an ace I can't help but think going 13-12 in June would be a really good result. without some help that could easily be an 8-17 kind of month.
guess they're sending voit to washington so hosmer is staying put, for now anyway.
Good point on Nido's ability to put down a bunt. He is a pretty reliable sac bunter.

Yeah, that sound, coming from someone who looks like him, is jarring.
this guy can run like 70mph
The concern level is high. A September swoon would be quite unideal. We finally get to the soft part of the schedule and then just keep pooping our pants. I really don’t like this at all.
Why do we suck so hard, chongs? And how do we make it stop? They're all pressing too much right now. Winning, like losing, is contagious. I'm not sure how you correct that, I suppose if I did I'd be a rich man.
First achievement unlocked
Judge still stuck on 60 HRs :curse:
But you know if we get swept then we probably don’t deserve to win the divVery true. Tip your cap to the Braves and then hope you can survive going the hard way.
For the official record:
73 is the single season home run record. Judge getting to 62 is an accomplishment, but everyone needs to chill, most of all Roger Maris Jr.
If we're not gonna count Bonds/McGwire/Sosa we shouldn't count anything before 1947
If we're not gonna count Bonds/McGwire/Sosa we shouldn't count anything before 1947
'47 is real generous, lots of teams still didn't scout or sign black players. The sport wasn't truly integrated until the early 60's
Also sucks that the game is at the exact same time as the qatz gamePfft is this even a choice? If it is, shame on you.

I played a lot of baseball, but I'm just not a fan of watching it unless we have a competitive team. My god, 2014-2015 feels like decades ago. I never thought I'd miss a sung Woo lee story. MLB has to be in major trouble. There's nothing appealing to watch right now. All these teams can burn in a fire.

Sorry folks, but for personal reasons I'm rooting for the Phillies, here.Well, I’m sorry you’ve chosen this path.
How can you you cheer for the Astros, I don’t get it.A) most fun team in baseball
They are the Huskers of the 90s.. not surprised black shirt dave likes themFormer husker Jake Myers is on the team! And his nephew is on lil sd’s flag football team who just won the 4th grade flag football championship! Coincidence? Yes, but wow!
Mattress Mack, Dusty, and Christian Vazquez, to hell with the rest of them
Will Verlander get his very first WS win tonight? Almost certainly not given how shitty he has been his entire life in the WS but tune in to find out!

I thought he pitched really well. Hard to believe his fast ball still touches 98 at his age and after surgery. Slider and Curve still have nice bite as well. Honestly after watching the game last night the Astros are pretty likeable, outside of Altuve.
However, the dugout shots of Dusty are incred.

deleting your garbage first part and quoting this part. Dusty does a lot of chomping. And I like that he moves from one side of the dugout to the other side if they don't hit because the other side of the dugout is the hitting side. lmao.
guysSeeing sad Phillies is always worth it.
Yes I hope he was allowed to stay up past midnight fist pumping and probably bouncing off the wallsHe was. Probably latest he’s ever gotten to stay up. Thank god this thing didn’t got to a game 7 on a school night.
Not like there was a better CF available. And I'm not a huge Nimmo guy. He's fine, but a imo a liability in CF with his noodle arm

Verlander a New York Metropolitan. My emotions are...mixed.
I haven’t followed the new rules they rolled out for spring training that closely, are they really doing a pitch clock in real games?

I agree. I think it’s perfectly fine to not want a broken bone in your hand as a result of a foul ball headed your way. On that topic: 1st and 3rd base coaches. You don’t need to bare hand the foul balls coming your way nobody is going to think less of you if you just let it go

Nets go all the way to the foul poles. You're breaking your hand on a pop up????
GLAD YOU BROUGHT THIS UP! We were like 5th row just to the third base side of home plate. Never getting a ball there, right? WRONG! There’s that gap by the dugout and the Meyers foul blasted off the giant camera and was coming in hot. I was like a 4/7 and not really “on my toes” but rest assured lil sd was and jumped up and gloved it!Why did a grown ass man bring a glove?I will defend anyone’s decision to bring a glove. Lil sd is obviously a kid but he gloved a Jake Meyers (Omaha native) foul ball. Pretty great moment.

Get in here @john "teach me how to" dougie
One stupid thing about the padres is how their uniforms don’t have their number on the front. Unforgivable
Watching Mets A's and enjoyed the Mets broadcast crew spending the entire top of the 2nd talking about the possum that lives in the A's visiting TV boothWell not the ENTIRE second inning
Utah thinks they can get an MLB team, LOL. And they kicked their AAA team to the burbs to make room. Double LOL.

Rosin and sweat!
There's an outside chance they'll get the A's if Vegas falls through.I don't think it will fall through.
Man we suckIt not great!
Ottavino sucks so bad, I'm glad he's no longer a red sox, I'd take Tommy Pham back through
Well that was something
The ASG broadcast is so bad these days. Just terribleThey cranked the “rough ridin' around” knob all the way to maximum when, in fact, it should have been cranked to moderately.
They should wear their own teams jersey

I can't imagine how enraged I would be as a Phillies fan if I knew they had a deal in place and didn't do it

An 8-3-5 triple play happened tonight for only the second time in MLB history. With the last one happening in 1884. :Wha:

That must require some really shitty base running.

He's a toollil sd is going to kick your ass irl
Adios Buck.
The Cardinals culture is so Nebraska-y. Super weird.Same as the Royals but with more winning (if we're getting to be honest here). Both sanctimonious Missouri people.

steve dave do we have a lilSD status update? I was worried that last week he might need shoulder replacement surgery from doing too much fist pumping but now i'm worried those same muscles might have atrophied. How's he holding up?3 MORE OUTS AND HE’LL BE DOIN A LOT BETTER FOLKS
So pure

That HBP was definitely on purpose and I can't believe ol dude got tossed, he didn't even charge the mound.
The Phillies Dbacks game, while not as fun, was fun too. Still feels like a collision course of assets Astros vs Phillies :Yuck:

I am pulling for anything w/o Houston, but that game last night probably ended it for the Rangers

I will also note that the HBP was obviously coming after how he posed for that homer. It could be bases loaded in the 9th of game 7 of the WS and Maldonado is making you take one for that.
The Astros deciding to start framber sent the rangers an unmistakable message:lmao yes
We’ll See You In Game Seven”

Bring it
Realistically of the teams left, Dback/Rangers is the one I will be happy for either team to win. I like it when teams who haven't won it at all/been a long time get one.Same. Lil sd is pulling for the rangers but I think I’m maybe going Backs. Either way happy for them.
is smallest ever world series viewership in play? i know 2020 was weird and nobody watched
That’s surprising. Not like we had anything to do in 2020.
Walked outside expecting to hear fireworks and people freaking the eff out with the Rangers win...nothing. Everyone around here are Astros fan.

I'm pretty jazzed. But we don't light fireworks to celebrate, because that's trashy.

Maybe pro-sports should've pumped the breaks on just embracing gambling
CHONGS I have been putting off mentally preparing for Thursday. I mean sure we all know that the Mets are going to be livin large and steppin easy on May 1st but do we have any reason to be optimistic beyond that?I'll have fun watching the Francisco boys. I think we have a decent chance of sneaking into the playoffs, but starting pitching might be our downfall. We don't have a true number one, and that was before Senga got delayed.

It’s my CWS shirt from 3 years ago. I originally was gonna wear one of my BACK TO BACK Super Bowl shirts but didn’t want to get jumped in the parking lot. I thought the hat rubbed it in just enough.

That crap color and what little we see of those block letters are looking real sus, TBT.
Sorry guys, baseball is cancelled.
What, do you really think he's wearing a KANSAS shirt? lol.

It was a joke spracne, goodness man.
Maybe this is just an aberration, but Severino is who I thought he would be: not a very good pitcher.
Bittersweet to watch Nick martini be the 27th out but he'll be fineYeah, that's a tough spot for him
Man that was a sweaty one
Is the name "Naturals" something like "Twin Peaks" sports bars? It’s a reference to being Naturally good at baseball.
