Essentially Flyertalk / 2014 goEMAW Fall Concert Season
« on: September 25, 2014, 09:47:02 AM »
(Mods, merge with 2104 summer concert series thread for master concert thread, if appropriate.)

Anyway, Belle Brigade, Glass Animals, The Head and the Heart, last night. Glass Animals basically plays variations on one song for 45 minutes (no surprise if familiar).

(hashtag could also be construed as statement on Carnes, I suppose).

So what is it?

I feel about 4 years younger, generally. When I think about it, there are some logical reasons (extra school, tend to hang out with cats younger than I am, etc.). But every now and then my real age hits me like  :frown:. Not like I'm being irresponsible and need to "grow up," but just because it's not how I feel in everyday life.

How bout you guys and gals?   :cyclist: or ?

Just curious if any of our angry Kat fans have been blocked by Doherty after tweeting at him.

Because, evidently, that's the go-to move of our prez, athletic department, and coach.

If a failed coach and commentator has a better ability to deal with constructive criticism than our administration, then my concern level elevates even more.

"#kstate coach oscar Weber said there was no set play on final possession. Just wanted his guys to make a play. They didn't."

Scouting title contenders: Kansas

...

Over the next six weeks, CBSSports.com college basketball writers Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello will go through the national championship contenders and attempt to answer that question. For each team, we will talk to four or five coaches who played those contenders this season, and get in-depth insight into each title threat.

...

"Offensively, they play at an extremely fast pace. They run aggressive pick and rolls. If you turn it over, they fly it up the floor as fast as anyone. They turn turnovers into transition baskets. On the defensive end, they rely on ball pressure and contest shots. They get into your body and force you to drive it into [Jeff] Withey and he just blocks your sh*t."

...

“Keep them out of the lane. When we played them, we didn't let them run any of their sh*t. When they let Elijah and Naadir go, and spread you out, they're tough to deal with. When they get into the dribble-handoff stuff, it's tough.”

...

“I think you want to make them play faster with Withey. In the first five minutes at their place, deal with the Rock Chalk Jayhawk sh*t. You can't let them get on those big runs.”

Doesn't necessarily have to be the same coach with all three quotes, but seems probable. Whoever it is must have played decent defense against them. Seems like it's probably a league coach. Bob would be the obvious choice, given the language and since they only scored 61 on WVU. And he knows about the first five minutes at Allen.

Fire and ADA codes, capacity, etc., etc., etc.

(You can afford to do this when you only get 5,000 showing up to games. So, oscar's 3rd year or so should be about right.)

What are your favorites? Any type: bourbon, Tennessee whiskey, scotch, Irish, rye, etc.

For a sub-$50 single malt scotch, I really like Macallan 10 fine oak.

Had Willett bourbon for the first time the other day. One of the smoothest I've ever had. I think anyone could drink it neat.  :lick:

Some day when I have something really big to celebrate I'm gonna get a bottle of Johnny blue.   :excited:

Anybody ever had Pappy VanWinkle? I hear good things.

But his data shows that the best bang for a war room's buck comes from drafting players who have a rap sheet. In true Moneyball fashion, it's not that these players outperform the upstanding citizens, but that they perform equally, and their records scare off most teams, making them true value picks.

Guys, the 'hawks are having trouble selling conference tickets to see their quasi-elite program, Top 20, KC-market-owning, 20 minute drive from JoCo, men's hoops teams play in the most historic venue in the country. Let's help them out!  TSC!

I talked a lot of crap in the chat, but I'll own it. I didn't think Bill and the boys had this in them. They made a ton of mistakes but came back and overcame them.

I was wrong. They may lose next week to Texas off this win, but I won't criticize them for it. They were tremendous in the 4Q and OT tonight. Props to them.

Goal number five of the "K-State Pledge" -- click here for a refresher course :) -- is "The Best Fan Experience in the Big 12." Since my arrival I've been so impressed with the positive passion of our fans and the way you've joined the staff in offering a warm "Welcome to K-State" to visiting fans.

After the OU game, for the first time since my arrival in the spring of 2009, I received a number of emails about negative experiences and impressions, PRIMARILY FROM K-STATE FANS. Now, to be clear, I believe our atmosphere and hospitality of our fans to be among the very best in the country. This is not intended to be a lecture. But here is an email I received Monday that I hope you'll take time to read.

?"First of all I would like to say that I have been a K-State fan my whole life.  I am 34 years old and watch K-State athletics events every time I can.  My family attended K-State and all graduated with a degree from the greatest college in the nation.  Because of my work and home schedule, I cannot attend football games like I would really like, but I watch the games on TV every Saturday.  Two weekends ago I had the opportunity to attend the K-State vs. Oklahoma game and let me tell you, I was so excited I barely could sleep the night before.  I went to the game with my father-in-law who is, unfortunately, an OU fan.  He graduated from there and grew up in Norman.  I don't fault him for this, especially since I love his daughter, but it does make for a fun experience when we watch these two schools do battle... I would like to change the mood now.  Our experience at the game was horrible.  My father-in-law wore an OU shirt and a K-State hat (his son, my brother-in-law, attends K-State now) and we sat in the section right next to the OU band.  There were many K-State fans sitting around us and from the moment we sat in our seats, he was chastised for wearing Red.  The abuse he and I received was to the point where we wanted to start fighting.  Instead we left at halftime and did not get to see the rest of the game.  He was cussed at, yelled at, and at one point, a young man threw his drink at him...In my opinion, these kinds of actions should never happen to anyone, home fans or away fans, at a game.  I have always been proud to call myself a Wildcat, but if this is how the experience is going to be, than I don't know if I CAN be proud anymore.... I hope this letter reaches sympathetic ears and future games I attend will be better.  Thank you for your time, and GO WILDCATS!!!!!!"

Again, I don't think that this is reflective of how the vast majority of K-Staters want to be represented. Certainly, we've probably all experienced occasional negative treatment at other schools (the low point for me being on a team bus while its windows were broken by fans at a certain school in my previous conference). But, on my morning jog around Stillwater Saturday I received treatment that I believe is more like the K-State I know and love- warm smiles and kind waves. In my opinion, K-State can and should continue to set the standard for sportsmanship. And you as fans can help us provide a great fan experience by contacting game day workers or utilizing our in-game text service (text “catfan” followed by your message and seat location to 57375) for assistance if you feel that there are unruly fans in your area of the stadium.

Obviously this weekend we have another tough Big 12 game...against a school that is making its final trip to MHK. I trust and expect that K-Staters will show their class and treat our visitors from College Station with respect. Although you'll notice from the number of vacant seats in the upper deck visitor sections that there aren't many Aggies traveling to MHK, remember that many of those who are will be parents and family of TAMU players- none of whom had anything to do with the politics of the decision. Let's let them leave the Big 12 having experienced a first class and respectful (and extremely loud) environment that they will always remember.

And as a reminder that isolated incidents don't define us, click here to read a great column from Berry Tramel of The Oklahoman regarding his experience in Manhattan for the K-State/OU football game. We all know that Manhattan is the epitome of a classic college town and are very proud of all the people and characteristics that make K-State and the Little Apple a special combination. Thanks for doing your part!

And Now Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming...

My takeaway from this is that we're supposed to report fans of the opposing school via the text line so they can be removed, rather than PI'ing them ourselves?   :ck:
