Asava's Guide to Golfing (FINALLY)
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:18:44 PM »
I know you all have been waiting for me to do this, and I'm glad I've finally gotten to it between rounds (seriously about to make the turn onto the back-nine, guys). In this thread I'll go over all the gadgets, gizmos, clothes, fashion tips and other relevant things that make golf enjoyable. I'm not a great golfer, but holy crap do I have a great time out there. Not gonna list these things in any particular order, but I can tell you that I have personally tried at least some of these things. One thing I won't talk about though is how to golf. I mean, WHO CARES, AMIRITE?! Hit the eff out of that ball and try and get it near the pin (pin and lots of other golf speak are definitely encouraged) and drain those putts. Feel free to add other things that make golfing enjoyable.

First up:

Jambox mini - This thing is perfect for a leisurely 18 when you need to blast some James Brown and let other golfers know you are not rough ridin' around. Light, portable, small, loud and bluetooth accessible means you can listen to whatever enya track you want to when you need to sink that 18 footer to save bogey. Sometimes I just listen to a "Sounds of the Ocean" compilation and sometimes I listen to Steely Dan, this thing can do it all.

Flip Divot Fixer thingy. Cuz nothing makes you feel cooler on a golf course when you whip this bad boy out and fix that crater you just left on the green after hitting on from 104 yards out. YA FEEL ME? If golf had gangs, this would be the weapon of choice.

Gotta stay hydrated out there, and what better way to do that than with some water in a water bottle. Honestly any water bottle will do, I just use this one. You could probably even get away with using one of those cheap ones you buy at gas stations. Just make sure it doesn't leak (you don't even want to deal with a wet golf bag).

Hats. You'll probably need one. It can get sunny out there, and it's a known fact that the golf swing is an enemy to all hairstyles. Extra bonus points for hats from a fabled tourney or golf company. I personally use a yellow one from the 2001 US Open at Southern Hills. Basically I walk into the clubhouse and they hand me the club championship immediately.

Hat Clip Ball Markers. Nothing says "pro" like these little babies. What else are you gonna do, dig around in your pockets like some amateur? GMAFB. Pick up one of these and automatically take 3 strokes off your round (don't cheat though). I use one from the rotary club because they do good work and it clips on my hat really well. Hasn't fallen off yet.

it would've been much easier for asava to just list off all the stuff he has instead of involving golf in this thing though. like, what did golf do?  :dunno:

Your divot tool has a ball marker, as well.  Are you cheating?  :Wha:

Sunglasses. Even with a hat (a hat clip ball marker firmly attached), that sun is brutal out there. You can go sporty. You can go classy. It doesn't matter as long as they stick to your head when you swing, which is requires a fairly minimal amount of head movement. I've even seen guys get away with wearing aviators. I haven't done it, just saying I've seen guys do it.

Nuff Said. Don't even need to wear socks with these bad boys and your feet enjoy a nice breeze while taking a walk down that long par 5 you just crushed your drive down.

Speed tees. Not exactly sure what these things do, but they definitely hold the ball up before I hit it with a driver.

Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

You ever think to yourself, "how am I ever going to sneak that 12 pack onto the course without the marshall coming after me and suspending my membership?", well worry no more, friends. That pesky marshall will have no friggin' clue you are actually carrying a bag full of fun times in tow when you use this covert cooler. Why pay for beer on the course when you can just slip one of these on your bikecart and have no one be the wiser? You're golf bros will be thanking you for this one.

Seriously, other than the course, yourself and other golfers, the Sun is your toughest adversary out there (see also sunglasses and hat). Come prepped or leave with a crisp.

How else are you gonna catch that tee time and keep pace out there while also using sophisticated technology to track your position on the course and find hole distance?
