Obviously to literally everyone is taxing religious institutions like the businesses they are. We will talk about the big ones like that for sure. But this little dandy just caught my eye and pissed me off:

parks are used by a bagillion more people than golf courses, aren't they?
-
I know this will piss off the billionaires ITT but i'd be 100% okay with rolling back basically every fiscal policy enacted under Reagan.
Taxing businesses and the ultra wealthy their fair share would do a lot. Make stock buy backs illegal again.

Property taxes should be illegal

Time to get rid of baseball and football fields folks. They aren’t paying enough property taxes. We just solved the housing crisis.

I’m against publicly funded stadiums.

I disagree on the public courses. They need to be left alone.
In Beige World aka JoCo. The Meadowbrook CC in PV was redeveloped, very nice, but hardly "affordable housing". Another developer tried to do the same with Brookridge CC in OP, and got shot down, the very very middle class, slightly upper middle class hoods around there fought it every step of the way. That development based on the original plans would have offered more affordable (by JoCo standards) MDU style housing.

I was today years old when I learned that golf courses are so lightly taxed. This is actually pretty interesting. I can see both sides except the moron "we should tax football fields" side because that is for morons

yes it's insanity
-
big box stores get insane property tax cuts too
-
I think it would take federal legislation to get rid of cities subsidizing private businesses.
-
here's a thought: less taxes :Woot:

Here's a better thought: fewer taxes (xpost Pet Peeves thread).
But, I agree with @sonofdaxjones regarding municipal courses. In my experience, they actually do get used as parks by local residents.

"Less in taxes" would be the best use of grammar there.

No. Just, no.

Eliminating golf courses in the mountain west would also help immensely with water shortage. Absolutely ridiculous to be irrigating large swaths of grass in the desert during a multi year drought.
-
Yeah, I don't think it would come close to solving water shortage issues, but it's a bit disingenuous to have irrigated golf courses while trying to find solutions.

I’m trying to figure out why golf courses pay any property tax at all. the only thing they cost the govt is building a roadway to them but usually there is a neighborhood surrounding them that you had to build the road for anyways.
-
Oh wait some guy is just mad he can’t afford a home and is blaming golf courses :jerk:

The same reason everyone else pays property tax.
-
What we should be asking ourselves is how can our govt show a greater appreciation for golf courses since they help inflate property values thereby increasing taxes collected. And there’s more, they also generate a lot of sales tax.
-
I don’t think this has to be some meta discussion. The tweeter said some golf courses take advantage of weird exceptions to keep their property taxes especially low. Closing that loophole seems like a common ground thing.

Any public organization should be taxed if they give salaries to their employees and receive some income. And as for public places like parks or golf courses, this also should be under taxes. The more you get, the more taxes you pay. Otherwise, you'll get your hands on the entire country's capital, passing through banks and various organizations. It's OK. I don't want to be one of the outraged businessmen. When I need to provide a certificate of income, I just create it in the bank statement generator at https://www.thepaystubs.com/ so as not to wait a million years. And then I send it to the tax service.

krista coming out swinging

The salaries of their employees are taxed.

Most large businesses actually put a large strain on public resources, and corporate income and property taxes are supposed to help alleviate that.
