anybody catch the NIT title game tonight? bob knight called the single-worst game i've ever seen. that's not hyperbole.
here were the lowlights in the final 2 minutes of regulation and overtime:
-with 2 minutes left, knight thanked everybody at ESPN for giving him the opportunity to broadcast games. he listed off a half dozen people. problem is, he had already done this earlier in the game.
-with the game tied, stanford possession, 1:20 left, knight spoke of the importance of stanford getting a basket so that they'd take the lead. a non-scoring possession, he ascertained, would give miami possession, and then they could take the lead, which would be "important."
-with one minute left, knight conceded: "i don't know miami's personnel too well." it should be noted he didn't know stanford's either, referring to every post player as "big kid."
-with miami down 2 pts w/ possession, knight says "miami has to know that the best they can do here is tie the game, i don't think they can take the lead. well, unless someone throws in a 3."
-with miami up by 1, with possession, 8 second difference between game and shot clock, knight suggested the canes shouldn't try to score.
-with 20 seconds left, knight asked how many seconds the shot clock was. then he guessed, "thirty-four?" fraschilla corrected him. "it's 30, bob."
-with 3 seconds left in OT, and with stanford at the line, knight suggested that miami call "an immediate timeout." problem is, neither team had any timeouts to take.
-on a full-court pass with less than 2 seconds left, the ball went off either a stanford or miami player. espn showed numerous replays. knight: "i think it touched both of them, the game's over."
-knight declared the game over. it wasn't over.
-knight again declared the game over. it wasn't over.
