Alright I'm gonna share some super secret insider info, this is the type of stuff I usually just PM steve dave but I'll just share it here:
In 2002, on the Holiday Bowl trip the band rehearsed 1 time, for an hour, without instruments. It was a walk through. In 2003, Fiesta Bowl vs. OSU, the band rehearsed 4 times, 2 hours each with instruments on the trip. Tracz was obsessed with looking good for OSU. That says it all really.

Since KSU stupidly places the marching band in a location where a substantial portion of the crowd only hears some sort of monotonous droning coming from down below . . . thus rendering the only exciting thing about the band (other than a couple of segments of pre-game), that being a good Wabash or Wildcat Victory after a TD or something good, utterly meaningless to large chunks of the stadium . . .
Who cares if the guy leaves or not?
The bands main job is to help get the crowd fired up in a cool pre-game ceremony and help keep the crowd fired up during the game. Certainly some band director with a pulse can make that happen, right?

Gatorade color is an integral part of the game. Certain colors/flavors just don't provide the same results. A- sources saying that a 2 parts lemon-lime to 1 part orange combo is 6-1 over the last 2 years while 2 parts red to 1 part lemon-lime is 0-3

First, we fire this Tracz joker right now. BOOM! Message to everyone that you ARE replaceable, so don't even eff around looking at other jobs.
Second, we go hire the #1 assistant at a school that "gets it." We need someone who has been part of a top band operation, that understands that job #1, #2, and #3 is to pump up our crowd and annoy the crap out of the opposing fans and team. Case in point the OU band. Every damn thing that they do that is event remotely positive prompts the band to play that "O - U" refrain. They love it, and we hate the crap out of it. aTm is the same way. They get so much as a 3 yard carry the band plays that refrain of theirs. It becomes infuriating for the opposing team and fans. eff! I mean those schools play that crap in OUR stadium when they visit us.
Tracz's band is run like a bunch of pussies. We never annoy the other teams or schools. Half the time, you don't even know Tracz's band is even there.

You put a young, aggressive, up and comer in charge of this band, and you get back to the two core values of the band (1 - pump up our crowd, 2 - annoy the crap out of the opposing fans and team), and those kids will play those musical instruments so hard it will make you cry.

I love having a band....if used properly.
Bands are a very integral part of the CFB experience. They should absolutely exist.
However, as SD mentioned, what's the difference between a good band and a bad band? Would I know a good one if I saw it? Does that mean our band really wasn't that good because I couldn't tell if it was good or bad?
What I hope is that we'll stop hearing them play the songs from Pirates of the Caribbean at least four or five times a year.

The KSU Band is OK. It's not easy to judge "how good" a MB is because it depends so strongly on what style you prefer. Some people (idiots) like that A&M fake military drill stuff, some like the Big 10 self-important bandnerdcore bluster, others like the HBCU loose style and showmanship, and others the "don't care" hipster vibe of west coast schools like Stanford. KSU tries to be Big Ten-like, but in the end the density of bandnerdcore kids is not high to sustain that "enthusiasm" so you get TPOWL.

Miami (the U) was (in 2011) rocking the no-band-just-DJamer model and it was really fun. You should have seen those kids in the parking lot. Nutso. They were having so much fun and their football program sucks. We should copy that.

Definitely would take. However, if one wants to be truly inspired we need to avoid the d-bag style that is Stanford, or the uber nerds that are big team (not to mention the psychosis that is aTm), and instead roll toward the Prairie View A&M band in their "prime." Only band I know suspended for at least a year by the NCAA for going out and putting the beat down on other teams' bands during games.
I not only want opposing schools to fear the butt-kicking they are going to receive from the qatz football team, but also their bands to tremble in fear over the beat down they are sure to receive.

once we have just one of each main sound, pick the best at each sound and cut the rest. you're only as strong as your weakest link; imagine the impact a shitty banjo player has on TPOWL. max size for the new POWL would be ~ 8-10 musicians, each the master of their craft.

Much like Stanford has adopted the sarcastic rich kid vibe we should full on embrace the Kansas vibe. Overalls, banjos, jugs, the broom handle-string-wash basin thing, washboard, spoons etc. Straw hats, basically dress like an episode of HeeHaw and only play bluegrass or Wizard of Oz songs.

You put a young, aggressive, up and comer in charge of this band, and you get back to the two core values of the band (1 - pump up our crowd, 2 - annoy the crap out of the opposing fans and team), and those kids will play those musical instruments so hard it will make you cry.
